Chapter 8 - First Light

The soldiers of that battlefield later described what happened next.

It was as if a gentle light had enveloped them, revitalizing and giving them back the strength they needed to continue fighting. However, that same light that saved them proved to be lethal for the veiled ones. As soon as her light enveloped the entirety of the battlefield, the creatures that had almost killed all humans fighting that day started screaming and howling in pain.

The smell of burned flesh permeated their nostrils. The creatures were burning; some even disintegrated on the spot. They burned at different rates; some died immediately while others died after a few seconds. Either way, no creature survived Solara's arrival.

Solara was floated in the air; nobody knew how, but they all knew that the female figure that was standing on air was the one who had saved them from the jaws of death.

As she started gliding down, her features became more visible to everyone present. Her beauty was ethereal, almost divine. Long, flowing golden-white hair framed her perfectly sculpted face, while radiant amber eyes shined like miniature suns. Her fair skin carried a faint golden glow, as if sunlight constantly rested on it. Her every movement was graceful and deliberate, projecting effortless authority.

She wore an elegant white and golden armor that resembled ceremonial robes fused with a golden plate, its polished surfaces reflecting sunlight without effort. A pristine white mantle draped around her shoulders, flowing behind her as she floated down.

As she glided down towards the battlefield below, the soldiers started to part from the spot she was descending to. As her feet touched the ground, all soldiers froze. Their expressions could only be described as disbelief.

Some stood with parted lips, others had forgotten how to breathe. The majority stood with frozen expressions, believing that exhaustion had driven them mad.

Even veteran soldiers-men and women alike, hardened by years of battle and discipline, found themselves unable to stop the trembling of their bodies. Their features cracked, not from fear, but from the realization of what they were witnessing.

Solara stood in the middle of an encirclement created by the soldiers. She then started walking towards the humanoid creature that had slaughtered countless humans. As she walked, the soldiers parted from her path, making way for her. The creature was kneeling on the mud, created out of the rain from previous days and the blood of everyone in the battlefield.

The creature knelt, not in reverence or respect for her, but from the pain that her light brought to it. Burn marks spread throughout its figure, with half its face burned.

It was in pain, judging by its expression. As Solara now stood in front of it, a few steps away, and looked down on its figure, the creature raised its head. It seemed as if pain had overtaken the fear it had felt when it noticed Solara's arrival.

"Ah…so the pets are finally out of their cage," it said with a pained voice.

"You know, we started wondering when you'd show up; you kept us waiting…." pausing as the pain from its injuries made it hard to speak, especially with half its face burned. "To think…that I'll be the one to encounter you first…ha…haha…HAHAHAHAH!" the creature let out a maddening laugh.

As the laugh slowly came to an end, the creature continued. "aaaahhh…I pity you, dog…and all the humans that will follow you…" The creature suddenly started addressing the soldiers, ignoring Solara. "None of you are prepared…and now your end is assured."

At that, Solara raised her hand, and a blinding white light enveloped the creature. The soldiers were forced to look away, covering their eyes from the intensity of Solara's attack.

After the light faded, all that was left of the creature's existence was a dark, burned mark on the ground it had been kneeling on. It was obvious that the creature had met its end.

Solara then turned her head towards the humans. All of them wore expressions of stunned silence and gratitude. They knew that if Solara hadn't appeared, all of them would be dead by now.

Solara looked at all of them, showing no expression and saying no words. She didn't need to; she then turned towards the general, who was nursing his shoulder from the phantom pain of being cut off, only to be healed at her arrival.

She nodded her head once at him, and just as she had arrived, she disappeared in the blink of an eye. Nobody knew how she did it, and had no idea why. They only learned afterwards, when Solara addressed the council, of the identity of the one who had saved them.

After addressing the council and introducing the rest of the guardians, she disappeared completely from the public eye. Only reappearing when the situation was so dire that the consequences of her uninvolvement affected the entirety of the world.

She did leave one thing behind before disappearing: knowledge.

The knowledge of the world's consciousness awakening and its willingness to help humanity in this new war.
