Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: The Story That Was Cut Off from the Root

Wang Feng pushed open the door of the Qingtian Hunting House and shouted inside,

"Old Bao, I brought you a new guy!"

Song Qiming was sitting behind the bar, smoking his pipe. He raised his head and glanced at Mo Fan behind Wang Feng, then blew out a puff of smoke and said calmly,

"Newcomer? There's not much work at the hunting grounds lately, so bringing in a newcomer is useless."

Wang Feng smiled, walked to the bar, and patted Mo Fan on the shoulder.

"Will it be useful when there's work in the future? My buddy here is a mid-level Thunder and Fire elementalist. We can definitely give him those small commissions."

"Oh? Thunder and Fire?" Song Qiming looked at Mo Fan with some surprise, then nodded with a smile. "Not bad."

At this moment, Lingling's voice came from outside the door.

"Grandpa, a big fat sheep is coming!"

"Oh? How fat?"

Lingling came skipping in and said slyly, "She looks flustered and mentally disturbed, and her attire shows that she's the daughter of a wealthy family."

"Tsk tsk, this is good." Song Qiming rubbed his hands, his face filled with anticipation.

Mo Fan, standing nearby, felt his hair stand on end. He couldn't help but whisper to Wang Feng,

"Old Wang, is this hunting ground… legitimate?"

Wang Feng smiled, pulled Mo Fan to a corner, and whispered,

"That's just how they are. You'll get used to it. Just keep quiet and watch."

Mo Fan nodded somewhat bewilderedly, but still couldn't help sneaking glances at Song Qiming and Lingling.

A moment later, a woman in brightly colored clothes walked into the Qingtian Hunting Ground.

Lingling led her inside and sat her down, while Song Qiming smoked leisurely at the bar, pretending not to care.

"You suspect your husband is a demon? That he goes out murdering people every night?"

Song Qiming half-closed his eyes, seemingly listening to the well-built woman's words, though his gaze flickered slyly toward Wang Feng.

"Yes… yes. I couldn't believe it at first, until this morning when I was doing his laundry and found that all his clothes were stained with blood. I—I used to be a nurse. I can tell the difference between animal blood and human blood… I was terrified."

She recalled the events of that morning, her face pale as paper, her fingers tightly clutching her clothes.

Wang Feng frowned slightly as fragments of an old memory surfaced in his mind.

"I'm sorry. Although we want to help, in this case, you should call the police." Song Qiming shook his head, politely refusing.

"Grandpa, just accept this commission."

Wang Feng suddenly stood from the corner and walked toward the young woman.

Both Song Qiming and Lingling looked at him in surprise. They had never seen Wang Feng show interest in such a small commission of only 300,000 yuan.

"Wang Feng, this commission doesn't comply with the rules of our hunting ground," Song Qiming said seriously.

"No, I'm just treating this lady. It doesn't count as accepting a commission."

As he spoke, a milky white light shone in his hand. His fingertips gently landed on the woman's collarbone.

Her skin began to tremble irregularly, as if something was wriggling inside her body.

She screamed in pain, beads of sweat pouring down her forehead.

Wang Feng's gaze sharpened. Using his finger like a blade, he sliced a small cut on her thumb.

A scaly insect slid out of the wound along with her blood, fell to the ground, and writhed violently.

Seeing this, Song Qiming raised his hand. The insect froze in mid-air, trapped by an invisible force, unable to move.

"Okay." Wang Feng calmly pulled out a wet wipe and cleaned his hands.

"What… what is that? How did it get into my body?" The young woman stared at the creature in horror, her voice trembling.

"It's a parasitic demon," Wang Feng explained calmly. "I'm afraid there's one inside your husband too. Every night, it takes control of his body and hunts for food."

"H-how could this be…"

The woman's face twisted in despair. She suddenly fell to her knees, hugging Wang Feng's legs tightly, her voice trembling.

"Master Hunter, please save my husband and child!"

Wang Feng remained silent, neither refusing nor agreeing.

"We at the Hunting Institute will accept your commission."

Song Qiming's voice cut through the silence.

Hearing this, the woman released Wang Feng's legs, relief flashing across her tear-stained face.

She looked up, her eyes filled with gratitude and hope.

"That's great… I'm willing to pay any amount, as long as you save them! Thank you, thank you…"

"Wang Feng, this commission is yours." Song Qiming turned to him.

Wang Feng nodded and turned his gaze to the woman. "Where is your husband now?"

"He… he should still be at work," she answered quickly, her voice trembling.

"Take me to him."

"O-okay!"

She hurriedly wiped her tears, stood up, and walked toward the door. Wang Feng followed close behind.

The two figures quickly disappeared from the Qingtian Hunting House.

Because her husband lived far from the Hunting House, they took a taxi.

Inside the car, Wang Feng leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and sank into his spiritual space.

Above his healing galaxy, an illusory green dragon shadow hovered, sleeping quietly.

Its body was vast and majestic, scales shimmering faintly as though concealing infinite power.

"Is this the Azure Dragon Soul?"

Wang Feng approached and placed his hand gently on its forehead.

He channeled the power of the Summoning Nebula, condensing a faint contract mark on his fingertips, and pressed it into the Azure Dragon Soul's brow.

Instantly, his spiritual space shook violently.

A profound bond formed, tightly connecting his soul to the Azure Dragon Soul.

Meanwhile, back at the Qingtian Hunting House.

Mo Fan was hunched over the table, carefully filling out the employment form.

He didn't notice that the little loach hanging on his chest suddenly quivered faintly, as if sensing something.

"…Why is this different from what I imagined?"

After contracting the Azure Dragon Soul, Wang Feng realized it was only at the level of a general.

Its once-magnificent form, tens of thousands of feet long, had now shrunk to just a few dozen feet, appearing pitifully small on the healing galaxy.

More importantly, its intelligence was childlike—naive, curious, and ignorant, like a young dragon freshly hatched.

"All the other copies matched the original. Why does the Azure Dragon look like a child?"

Sensing his doubts, the Azure Dragon wagged its tail and let out a low, almost playful roar, full of dependence and flattery.

"Forget it. A young Azure Dragon is still an Azure Dragon. I'll just treat it as raising a brand-new Holy Totem."

Wang Feng sighed helplessly and reached out to stroke its head.

"If I use the transcendental power Beast Power to merge the Azure Dragon Soul into myself… what will happen? Will I become the Dragon Lord?"
