"What should we do? Even the Response Team can barely handle the monsters here." Sophie sighed.

They'd been full of confidence when they first entered last night. Newborn calves afraid of nothing. It's just a Rift. We're all Tier 3 — what's the worst that could happen?

Later, they'd been trembling with fear.

"It's not hopeless," Ethan said. An idea had taken shape. "Let me try something first. If it works, we might have a real shot."

"Try what?"

"Making a card. I need a quiet spot."

Under their confused stares, Ethan jogged over to Big Big Wolf.

"Uncle Wolfie — make me a table and chair set."

For basic furniture, Big Big Wolf worked at lightning speed. Done in thirty seconds.

Ethan carried the set to a clear area, sat down, and centered himself.

Using a Tier 3 Special Card Base directly would be risky — better to test with the Tier 1 Special Base first. On a card he'd failed to create before.

Way back at the beginning, when he'd first made Big Big Wolf, another character had come to mind.

Rick and Morty.

He'd attempted Rick Sanchez early on and failed. The artwork had been perfect. The story logic was consistent. By all rights, it should've worked.

But now, with the Special Card Base in hand, a thought struck him: what if the base hadn't been good enough to contain it?

Big Big Wolf was powerful — genius-level invention ability, comedic immortality, a god-tier survivor. But was there an anime character who surpassed him as an inventor?

Yes. By a mile.

Rick Sanchez.

Where Big Big Wolf built mechs and gadgets from junkyard scraps, Rick built portal guns, dimension-hopping spaceships, and consciousness-transfer devices on a Tuesday afternoon. He could survive as nothing but a head. He'd cloned himself hundreds of times. His moral compass didn't just break — it had never existed.

The comedy in Pleasant Goat meant Big Big Wolf's inventions were fundamentally Earth-scale.

Rick operated on a multiversal scale.

After running through the general plot and character design in his mind, Ethan began.

His Mental Strength had grown since transmigrating, giving him vivid recall of anime from his previous life. Every episode, every detail — sharp as the day he'd watched them.

He set the Special Card Base on the table. Black border. Heavier than a normal base. It felt premium.

He took out the System-provided pen and ink and started drawing.

Wild blue hair. White lab coat. Massive, unblinking eyes. A flask in one hand.

The Mental Strength cost was immediately noticeable — double a normal Tier 1 card. Around 60 instead of 30.

He input the story. The infinite multiverse. The Council of Ricks. The portal gun. Morty. Beth. The nihilism wrapped in genius wrapped in alcoholism.

The card began to flicker.

The light condensed — gold, then brighter, climbing past gold to a faint red, then deepening to crimson.

The light dissipated.

One random card-making material (Tier 1-6) distributed monthly.

Ethan stared at the wall of notifications.

He'd expected a red card to be impressive. He hadn't expected permanent buffs.

The 50% Mental Strength reduction alone was massive — he'd literally just been worried about not having enough energy to make Tier 3 Special cards, and the universe handed him a half-off coupon.

System Headquarters? Where was that? And a Master Chat Group?

The Rift Admin chat group had already left him reeling. Now there was another one?

He checked the System panel. Sure enough, a new chat group had appeared. Only about a dozen members. Nobody was talking at the moment, so he left it for later.

For now: test the card.

He summoned Rick.

Ethan opened his mouth to introduce himself—

"Shit." Rick materialized, shook his head like he was clearing cobwebs, and immediately started talking. His voice dripped with disdain. "The Psionic fluctuations in this place are about as stable as a burp — as a drunk toddler on a trampoline, and the quantum entanglement states are twisted into pretzels. You call this a Rift? It's a cosmic exhaust pipe at best."

He squatted, ran his fingers across the dirt, and produced a palm-sized metal device from... somewhere. Its screen flickered with chaotic green light.

"Ooh — spatial barriers are tissue-paper thin. Any half-decent antimatter charge could blow right through." He stood up, still scanning the device. "But your card-making technique — that's mildly interesting. Anchoring 2D consciousness to a 3D entity? Way more elegant than the cross-dimensional projection I was working on before I — y'know — became a trading card."

Ethan tried again. "Hello, Rick—"

Rick spun around, pulled a mirror from nowhere, and examined his own head. "Is the thing messing with my subconscious in here? In the brain? Because I will find it. And I will take it apart."

Ethan: ...

I knew summoning this guy wouldn't go smoothly. He's already planning to dismantle the System's programming.

But if the System were that easy to hack, it wouldn't be the System.

Rick being unable to break the fourth wall in his own show was practically a law of nature.

...Right?
