Her name was Valentina.
That was all Demetrio gave me. No last name, no context, no explanation of who she was or why she was standing in the middle of this courtyard with her hands linked behind his neck and her eyes moving over his face like she was recounting something she had memorized and missed. Just Valentina, delivered in the flat, efficient tone he used for things he considered self-explanatory, the tone that closed questions before they could form.
