Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 – She Actually Dared to Use My Magic Against Me!

"No. I don't want it."

Deadpool took two exaggerated steps back as if Peyton had just offered him poison.

His tone was full of disdain.

"Just give me a bow. I'd rather be a powerless Hawkeye than some Winter Soldier who only goes 'pew pew pew.'"

Peyton stared at him.

"This is reality, not a superhero comic."

He slung the M16 over his own shoulder with a sigh.

Fine.

He would carry it for now.

And later?

He would force it into Deadpool's hands if necessary.

Everyone finished gearing up inside the weapons store.

Carlos adjusted his rifle sling.

Nikolai checked his magazine count twice.

Jill loaded with calm precision.

Alice selected weapons that wouldn't slow her down.

Even Tali, who barely had combat experience, picked up an MP5.

In a moment where life and death were measured in minutes, no one dared slack off.

Angela, however, carried nothing.

She stood quietly beside Deadpool.

---

The school bus stopped about one kilometer away from City Hall.

They couldn't risk driving straight in.

Carlos climbed agilely onto a higher vantage point and lifted his night vision device.

He observed for a full minute.

Then climbed down quickly.

"There's a large transport helicopter already landed on the rooftop plaza," he reported. "At least two dozen fully armed Umbrella soldiers. Rotational patrols. And there's a sniper positioned on the top floor."

That last sentence made everyone's expression harden.

A sniper meant instant death if they made a mistake.

Alice spoke first.

Her mind worked fast.

"Our combat strength can be divided into three tiers."

She glanced at everyone.

"First tier—Wade and I."

Superhuman mobility.

Superhuman resilience.

Second tier—Carlos, Nikolai, Jill, Peyton.

Capable soldiers.

Third tier—L.J., Tali, and Angela.

Civilians.

She quickly outlined the strategy.

"I'll take out the sniper."

She didn't even hesitate.

"The rest of you clear the rooftop and secure the helicopter. No prolonged fighting. Get in and take off."

She paused.

"Peyton, you lead the third group. Protect Angela. Guard the perimeter."

Honestly—

After seeing Deadpool slice through monsters like paper, Alice wasn't sure she could win against him.

But she had also seen enough in just a few hours.

Deadpool was powerful.

And absolutely unreliable.

Giving him the sniper mission?

That felt like asking for chaos.

"Any objections?" Alice asked.

"I do."

Before Deadpool could speak, Nikolai raised his hand.

Alice frowned slightly.

"It's not gentlemanly to send a beautiful lady on such a dangerous task," Nikolai said smoothly. "I can handle the sniper."

Alice shook her head immediately.

"No. I'll be safer."

Which clearly meant—

Discussion closed.

She turned to Deadpool.

Then—

She extended her hand.

And wiggled her fingers playfully.

Deadpool blinked.

"…What?"

She beckoned again.

His expression darkened.

With exaggerated reluctance, he unstrapped one of his swords and handed it over.

"Good looks don't pay the bills," he muttered. "If you break it, I'm charging rental."

Alice tied the sword across her back.

She smiled coolly.

"Didn't you say I'm the director's wife? Go ask him for payment."

Then—

She leapt forward.

In just a few bounds, she vanished into the darkness.

A phantom racing toward City Hall.

Deadpool stood still for a moment, staring in the direction she had disappeared.

Peyton smacked his shoulder.

"Stop looking. She's gone."

Deadpool slowly turned his head.

His voice trembled with disbelief.

"She actually dared… to use my magic against me."

---

They approached the slope leading to the rooftop landing plaza.

Four Umbrella mercenaries guarded the incline.

Deadpool nodded thoughtfully.

"Ah. In the movie there were only two."

He looked pleased.

"Now there are four. Clearly they value me highly."

Carlos crouched beside the wall and gestured.

'I go first. Nikolai, follow.'

Without waiting for a response, Carlos pushed off and flipped onto the slope.

Nikolai followed immediately.

There were several dull thuds.

Short, brutal sounds of hand-to-hand combat.

Then silence.

Carlos' voice echoed softly.

"Clear."

Deadpool and Jill moved up the slope next.

Peyton prepared to guide L.J., Tali, and Angela when—

He froze.

Footsteps.

Approaching.

Not irregular like zombies.

Measured.

Human.

He instantly pushed L.J. and Tali's gun barrels downward.

"Don't shoot," he whispered urgently.

If they fired now, the entire rooftop would know.

He made hand signals.

They stared blankly.

Peyton sighed.

"You three hide. I'll check."

He moved silently toward the sound.

---

City Hall – Rooftop

The sniper adjusted his scope.

Through the crosshairs, he saw them clearly.

Four targets.

Two soldiers.

One attractive woman.

And—

A red spandex idiot with swords.

He smirked.

Who first?

The professionals?

The woman?

Or the clown?

While he hesitated—

The red spandex figure suddenly turned.

And looked directly at him.

Not vaguely in his direction.

Directly.

Through the scope.

The sniper felt a chill.

In his scope view, the red spandex man put his fingers to his mouth.

"Muah."

A distant air kiss.

Then he cupped his cheeks shyly.

Head tilted.

Kill him first.

The sniper adjusted aim.

Crosshairs centered on Deadpool's forehead.

Finger tightened—

Suddenly—

Black.

His scope went dark.

He jerked back.

Alice stood beside him.

Her hand casually covering the scope lens.

She gave him a sweet, angelic smile.

Then—

Her fist slammed forward.

The world turned pink.

Then nothing.

---

Alice secured her rope to the rooftop anchor point.

She tested the tension.

Solid.

She inhaled.

Then leapt off the building.

She descended vertically down the skyscraper wall in a perfect controlled drop.

Wind whipped past her face.

Below, the rooftop guards grew larger in view.

Mid-descent—

Her hand moved to the sword at her back.

Steel flashed.

A single arc of cold light cut across the rooftop.

Eight clean segments.

Bodies dropped before their minds understood what happened.

The rooftop defense was shattered in seconds.

---

Beside the slope

Two mercenaries patrolled near scattered debris.

They heard something.

Rustling.

They exchanged glances.

One raised his weapon and approached cautiously.

Behind the clutter—

Tali clutched Angela tightly, one hand covering both their mouths.

L.J.'s fingers trembled on the MP5 trigger.

The mercenaries moved closer.

Closer.

But neither noticed—

Behind them—

From the darkness—

A pair of eyes slowly opened.

Not human.

Not blinking.

Predatory.

The air grew colder.

And somewhere above—

The helicopter blades began spinning faster.

Time was almost up.
