Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 – I Tried to Save Him, But Unfortunately I Failed

"Oh, you mean this?"

L.J. pulled out his dual pistols and waved them proudly in front of Deadpool's mask. The metal gleamed under the dim streetlights. He flashed a wide grin, showing perfect white teeth.

"That's right. You have good taste."

He crossed the pistols over his chest and lifted the thick gold chain around his neck.

"They match my necklace well, don't they?"

Deadpool tilted his head slightly. "Yeah. I once knew a friend who loved to fake a smile like that. He also carried two guns just like these."

He leaned closer, studying them as if admiring rare artwork.

"They're beautiful."

L.J. laughed loudly. "By the way, where is your friend? I'd love to meet him. Sounds like we'd get along."

Deadpool's voice softened.

"There will be a chance."

He slowly licked his lips.

"He died. Shot to death by a storm of bullets. I tried to save him, but unfortunately I failed. I only managed to save his two guns."

L.J. frowned slightly. The way Deadpool said it felt strange, almost too calm. But he assumed it was grief hidden behind humor.

"That's rough, man. Sorry for your loss."

Deadpool pointed at L.J.'s pistols.

"Can I have them? I'll trade you mine. Same model—.50 caliber Desert Eagles. I modified them myself. Smooth grip. Perfect balance."

"No, no, no."

L.J. instantly stepped back, protecting his guns.

"Unless I'm dead, nobody's taking these from me."

Deadpool sighed.

"That's truly regrettable."

He kept staring at the weapons just a little too long.

The air inside the vehicle suddenly felt colder.

L.J. quickly changed the subject.

"So… where are we going?"

"The school," Jill answered from the front seat. "Raccoon City Middle School."

"The school? Right now? In this situation?"

L.J. almost opened the car door mid-drive.

Peyton explained everything again—the little girl, Dr. Ashford's request, the promised extraction.

And then the truth.

A tactical nuclear missile was scheduled to wipe Raccoon City at dawn.

"F**K!"

Like everyone else before him, L.J.'s first reaction was pure shock.

"So if we don't rescue that kid, when the sun comes up, we're all ash?"

"Yes," Jill said calmly.

"How much time do we have?"

Peyton checked his watch.

"About two and a half hours."

L.J. leaned back in his seat.

"Well… that's just fantastic."

---

On a once-busy main road, abandoned cars filled every lane. Doors hung open. Some engines still smoked. The city had gone silent except for distant screams and gunfire.

Then—

BOOM!

A rocket screamed through the night sky, trailing fire, and slammed into a red sedan ahead.

The explosion shattered the silence.

Flames erupted upward, lighting up storefront windows. The shockwave flipped the car into the air. Glass exploded outward in deadly shards.

Alice was behind another vehicle when she saw it.

The car was falling straight toward her.

There was no time.

Her pupils widened.

Blood began to trickle from her nose and ears.

And then—

Something inside her mind exploded.

An invisible force burst outward.

The falling car slowed.

It was as if the world had turned heavy and thick.

Alice roared in anger, gripping her blade with both hands and slashing downward with all her strength.

There was no resistance.

To her, it felt like cutting through air.

But in reality—

The car split cleanly in half.

Steel tore apart like paper.

The two halves were thrown aside by an unseen force, crashing into other abandoned vehicles and crushing them.

Silence followed.

Alice stared at her blade, horror flickering in her eyes.

What was happening to her?

But there was no time to think.

Across the street stood Nemesis, the towering bio-weapon created by the Umbrella Corporation. His heavy machine gun rotated into position again.

Alice sprinted toward a nearby shop, pulling her MP5 free and firing while running.

Bullets slammed into Nemesis' body, tearing flesh, spraying dark blood.

But he kept walking.

He lowered his arms after shielding his head and watched her smash through a shop window.

Then he followed.

Relentless.

---

Raccoon City Middle School

The group arrived at the gates.

The building stood in darkness.

No wind.

No insects.

No sound.

Jill parked quietly.

"We split up," she whispered once they entered the main building. "The last signal from Dr. Ashford's surveillance showed his daughter here. Two floors above ground. One basement level."

She looked at the team.

"I'll take the basement with Tali. Peyton, you search the first floor. Wade and L.J., second floor. Clear?"

She had paired the strongest with the weakest. It was the safest option.

"No problem," Deadpool said cheerfully.

They separated.

Before leaving, Deadpool patted Peyton's shoulder.

"Remember what I taught you about survival, buddy. And try not to die. It's inconvenient."

Peyton sighed. "Good luck."

---

Deadpool and L.J. climbed the stairs to the second floor.

L.J., nerves shot from the countdown to nuclear destruction, pushed open the first classroom door without hesitation.

Inside—

Three Lickers.

And several zombies.

They were crouched over two corpses, feeding.

The sound of tearing flesh filled the room.

L.J. blinked once.

"Sorry. I interrupted. Please continue."

He slowly stepped back and gently closed the door.

Then he grabbed Deadpool's arm.

"Run!"

Deadpool looked confused.

"What happened?"

Before L.J. could answer—

CRASH!

The classroom door exploded outward.

Three Lickers burst into the hallway, claws scraping across the floor.

Their exposed brains pulsed under dim lights. Long tongues flicked through the air.

Behind them, slow-moving zombies staggered out.

Deadpool sighed.

He drew his blade in one smooth motion. Since Alice had taken one earlier, he now held only a single katana and one pistol.

"Behold," he muttered dramatically, "Gun-Kata."

"RUN!" L.J. shouted again.

But Deadpool stepped forward instead.

A Licker launched itself forward in a blur.

L.J. couldn't even track it.

Deadpool casually sidestepped.

A flash of steel.

A wet slicing sound.

The Licker's head fell to the ground.

It rolled to L.J.'s feet.

For a second, L.J. didn't breathe.

Then—

w(゚Д゚)w

His jaw literally dropped.

The other two Lickers screeched and lunged together.

Deadpool raised his pistol and fired twice—clean, controlled shots that blew out one creature's kneecap and jaw.

It collapsed mid-air.

The third reached him.

Deadpool allowed it to tackle him.

They crashed into lockers.

Metal bent inward.

The Licker screeched, claws digging into his shoulders.

Deadpool calmly spoke while being pinned.

"Personal space, buddy."

He shoved his pistol into its mouth and pulled the trigger.

Its skull exploded from the inside.

The body fell limp.

Behind them, the zombies were closing in.

L.J., finally snapping out of shock, drew his golden pistols.

"Unless I'm dead, no one takes these from me!" he yelled, firing wildly.

Deadpool stood, brushing dust off his suit.

"See? Teamwork."

They moved quickly down the corridor, clearing classrooms one by one.

Gunshots echoed through the school.

---

Meanwhile, in the basement—

Jill and Tali moved carefully down the stairs.

The air grew colder.

The smell worse.

They found scratch marks along the walls.

Blood trails.

And then—

A faint crying sound.

Tali froze.

"Did you hear that?"

Jill nodded.

They followed the sound to a storage room.

Jill slowly opened the door.

Inside, hiding behind shelves—

Angela Ashford.

Terrified but alive.

They had found her.

Jill rushed forward.

"It's okay. Your father sent us."

Angela looked up with wide eyes.

"Is it true? Are they going to destroy the city?"

Jill hesitated only a second.

"Yes. So we need to leave. Now."

---

Upstairs—

Deadpool wiped black blood off his blade.

"How much time left?" L.J. asked nervously.

Deadpool checked an imaginary watch.

"Less than two hours until sunrise barbecue."

Suddenly—

The entire building shook.

Heavy footsteps echoed from outside.

Deadpool and L.J. moved toward a window.

Through the glass, they saw him.

Nemesis had arrived at the school.

The massive figure stepped through the front gates like they were paper.

Minigun spinning.

Target acquired.

Deadpool tilted his head.

"Oh. Big ugly followed us."

Gunfire erupted as Nemesis opened fire on the building's lower floor.

Concrete exploded.

Windows shattered.

Peyton shouted from downstairs.

Jill's voice came through the radio.

"We've got the girl! Heading up!"

Deadpool cracked his neck.

"Well," he said calmly, "time for a boss fight."

He looked at L.J.

"You still want to keep those guns?"

L.J. swallowed hard.

"Yeah."

Deadpool nodded.

"Good. Try not to die before dawn."

Outside, Nemesis stepped forward, lifting his rocket launcher.

The night was about to explode again.

And above them all, unseen in the dark sky—

The missile countdown continued.

Two hours.

One city.

No room for failure.
