David stood, his earlier grin slowly curving down. His head tilted down as drops of water fell to the floor.
He curled once again into a ball, grabbing his hair with one hand. Water dripped from the corner of his eye.
His tears wouldn't stop flowing.
His chest tightened with every breath.
The look of resemblance reopened his wounds that had healed.
The look of emptiness in their eyes and the unbothered tone of their voice reminded him of the family he lost.
So, he made another promise. One he would bet his life on.
To never leave his remaining family's side, to protect him no matter the cost, no matter the stakes. He will be ready to use his life in exchange for his brother.
"I…will become his shield, the person he will rely on, the person with whom he shares his worries, and the person… whom he will consider his hope!"
David vowed to keep this promise. His eyes sparkled with newfound courage.
He stood up, his head held high and the composure that was crumpled earlier rebuilt its walls.
