Chapter 34 - Episode 30: Experiments

A silhouette sat curled up at the corner of a large room.

The room, filled with darkness, only echoed with the slow beep of a machine.

The steady whispers of his breath slowly became uneven.

He peeled his eyes and revealed bright yellow hues.

"Greed. How do you feel?"

The silhouette lifted his head to the man in front of him.

The man leaned towards the silhouette, his clipboard rested on his hand.

He was tall and elegant. He wore a soft smile, there were no malice behind it—only genuine thoughts and care. But people change don't they? Their real emotions are envy and the type of curiosity that leads to more evil.

The man straightened and turned. He walked away from the silhouette and stopping at a wall, with a click, the room brightened instantly.

The man turned and grinned.

"See? It's better this way! Look, you seem much cuter!"

"Wh—what are you saying, brother?!"

A childish voice remarked, his lips curved to a subtle yet cheerful smile.

A chuckle escaped the lips of the man, he walked towards the child and kneeled.

"Say, do you remember what I taught you?"

"That… whenever the bad guys try to control me, I will call you."

"Ah nice job!"

The man proudly ruffled the child's hair.

"Now, what do you call me?"

"Hehe! It's D—"

"GREED!"

The man held the child in his arms. He laid helplessly, his consciousness fading.

His hands trembled, warm and sticky… and in his arms, the child lay still, pale as winter.

"A…ahh."

His voice shook as he mourned, tears flowed harder with every sound he made.

Experiencing the pain of losing the child, he silently made a pact…

Do not associate with any person, never show emotions, and never form a relationship.

But I had forgotten it all, when I met you, Adrian.

I promised, didn't I? Not to care? Yet, when I see you… that vow shatters, piece by piece. I want to look away, but my hands won't obey. My heart ached with the resemblance.

I couldn't let this second chance pass.

No.

It's not I can't, but I wont. I'm a coward who looks back but not the front.

And, I'm a man who can't carry on.
