Chapter 44 - A Moment of Deceptive Peace :

Zavian's car sped through the city streets cutting through the night but inside an eerie silence lingered...cold and lifeless like a graveyard.

Only one obsession filled Zavian's mind—to find that "Hidden Spy."

He had decided that he would not spare the person who dared to escape his sight.

Zavian's grip on the steering wheel was firm, while Sheyaan silently stared out the car window at the passing greenery.

But the sparkle that once filled her eyes was gone.

Zavian cast a deep, cold glance at Sheyaan. Her silence was unsettling him.

"Sheyaan... why are you so quiet?"

Zavian's voice cut through the silence of the car.

"Did that Lucy lock your tongue?"

Sheyaan heard him but didn't even look at him. She took a deep breath; her heart felt weighed down by something heavy. In a soft and sad voice, she replied,

"No... I'm not quiet because... of Lucy. I just... feel like staying quiet."

A hard smile appeared on Zavian's face, but his eyes remained cold with anger. Making his tone more strict and commanding, he said:

"Oh? So you think you can hide the truth... behind your silence... from me?"

Sheyaan still kept her gaze fixed on the soft scenery outside, but inside her mind, a storm was raging.

Every word from Zavian felt like pressure weighing down on her.

Zavian's grip on the steering wheel tightened even further his knuckles turning pale under the pressure.

His tone was cold and sarcastic.

"Oh really? You do know...who you're lying to, Sheyaan, don't you?"

Zavian took his eyes off the road for a moment and fixed them on her.

His presence was intimidating enough to scare anyone, but Sheyaan met his gaze with her soft eyes.

Their eyes locked—on one side there was intensity, on the other, silent sadness.

Zavian took a deep breath and focused back on the road. His tone shifted slightly, as if he wanted to lighten the mood.

"You should ignore her (Lucy's) words..., Sheyaan. It would be better if you focus on... today's happiness…understand.

Seeing this "warm-cold" shift in Zavian's tone, a faint, half-formed smile appeared on Sheyaan's lips. She began to feel a little at ease.

"Hmm… okay," Sheyaan said softly.

Zavian asked,

"So now tell me, where do you want to go?"

With a bit of excitement, Sheyaan replies.

"First, I want to go to... a nice restaurant. We'll eat peacefully first, then...go to walk.

Zavian softened a little more and, with a rare slight smile, replied,

"Alright, then..let's go."

After a while, Zavian's car stopped in front of a beautiful restaurant.

Sheyaan and Zavian stepped out of the car. The restaurant was located at a very peaceful spot by the city road.

People were laughing and chatting everywhere, and the whole place was filled with light and happiness.

But amidst all this happiness, the bond between Sheyaan and Zavian was as deep as a hidden secret...

The sparkling lights outside the restaurant shimmered softly and the warm cheerful.

atmosphere wrapped around Sheyaanlike a gentle embrace.

She took a deep breath, and a smile appeared on her face—one that hadn't been seen for a long time.

Zavian sensed her happiness and softly said,

"Shall we?"

Sheyaan simply smiled and nodded. They walked inside and reached a table placed in a corner.

Zavian gently pulled out a chair for her, and they both sat down.

Sheyaan picked up the menu card from the table and began looking at it carefully.

"I want to eat.. Ramyeon noodles,"

she said, looking at Zavian.

"What do you want?"

Zavian maintained his usual cold and stern attitude.

"No, I'm not hungry. You enjoy."

Sheyaan looked at him for a moment, as if trying to convince him, but then stayed quiet.

Just then, a waiter came over and politely asked,

"Ma'am, what would you like to have?"

Sheyaan replied,

"I'd like Ramyeon noodles and... two soft drinks... that's all."

The waiter noted the order,

"Okay Ma'am."

Then he looked at Zavian,

"And sir?"

"Nothing," Zavian replied briefly and flatly.

The waiter smiled and left. After some time, he returned carrying a large tray.

The delicious aroma of noodles filled the air. He placed the hot Ramyeon and cold drinks in front of Sheyaan and politely said,

"Enjoy your food, Ma'am."

After the waiter left, Sheyaan took in the aroma of the noodles.

Zavian silently watched her—her innocence making him forget everything, even if just for a moment...

Sheyaan happily started eating her noodles. With every bite, her mood kept getting better. After a while,

she picked up her glass and took a sip of the cold drink.

"Ahh... it's so cold!"

she said softly, her face glowing slightly from the refreshing chill.

She noticed Zavian sitting quietly, busy on his phone. She quickly said,

"Hey... why are you sitting... like that? I ordered this drink for you...too, you should have some."

Without even looking at her, Zavian replied in a flat, cold tone,

"No."

Hearing this, Sheyaan got a little annoyed and said,

"What do you..mean 'no'? Just...drink it quietly!"

Zavian lifted his gaze from his phone and looked at her with sharp eyes, but said nothing.

Then silently, he picked up the glass and took a few sips.

Watching him closely, Sheyaan asked,

"Do you like soft...drinks? Or... do you prefer hard drinks... the ones with alcohol?"

Zavian placed the glass back on the table. His eyes held that same deep intensity.

"Not at all. I don't like alcohol,"

he replied firmly and flatly.

Sheyaan nodded slowly and said,

"Hmm... you're the first person... I've met who doesn't like alcohol."

It was a bit surprising for her, because powerful and wealthy people like Zavian usually drank.

But this principle of his made him different from others.

The time they spent in the restaurant felt like a beautiful dream. Sheyaan truly lived that moment.

After finishing the meal, Zavian paid the bill and they stepped outside.

Sheyaan felt the cool breeze. Instead of heading to the car, she noticed a beautiful park nearby, glowing with lights.

"Zavian, wait!" she stopped him.

"I don't want to... sit in the car right now. Can we...take a walk there?"

she pointed toward the park.

Zavian glanced at the park—trees decorated with tiny glowing lights everywhere.

Then he looked into Sheyaan's eyes… where a quiet hope was shining.

"Alright, let's go… but we won't take too long, okay?"

Zavian said, setting his usual condition, though there was a hint of softness in his eyes for Sheyaan.

The moment she heard his yes, Sheyaan lit up like a child and ran toward the park. Seeing her cross the road so quickly made Zavian's heart skip a beat.

"Sheyaan! Be careful…!"

he shouted, panic rising in his chest as he immediately ran after her.

When Zavian entered the park, he saw her sitting on an old yet beautiful swing. She was gently swinging,

her face glowing with a carefree smile—as if no sorrow existed in her world.

Zavian watched her from a distance… a "Queen" who, in this moment, looked just like an innocent little girl.

But that peace lasted only for a few moments.

Suddenly, Zavian's demon senses awakened. His ears caught a faint sound—like someone moving slowly behind the dense bushes.

Someone was there.

Someone hiding in the darkness… watching Sheyaan.

Zavian's expression hardened instantly. His "protector" side had returned.

Without making a sound, he moved quietly toward the bushes. His eyes now gleamed like a predator's.

As he got closer… the sound became clearer.

Zavian's steps moved slowly toward the bushes. His entire body was on alert like a predator.

His fingers were just about to push the branches aside when suddenly, Sheyaan's cheerful voice pulled his attention away.

"Zayan! Come here… look, it's so much fun!"

Zavian turned—and for a moment, his heart stopped. Shock filled his face.

Sheyaan was sitting on a giant swing, high up in the air… now descending rapidly.

The blood in Zavian's veins ran cold. The mystery in the bushes vanished from his mind. Without thinking, he ran toward her.

His pride, his dominance—everything faded. His voice now carried nothing but fear and urgency.

"Sheyaan! What are you doing... up there?! Get down… right now!"

But Sheyaan was lost in her own world, enjoying the rush of the swing, feeling the wind as if nothing else mattered.

Zavian turned to the operator, his face flushed with anger and worry.

"Listen!"

he commanded in a cold, threatening tone.

"Stop this ride... immediately! If even a scratch.. comes to her… you won't be spared. Bring her...down now!"

The swing operator, after hearing Zavian's threat, first grew irritated, then looked at him in disbelief.

Pulling the lever, he muttered:

"Why are you getting.. so worked up, sir? If you cared that much, why did you let her...sit on the swing in the first place?"

He scanned Zavian from head to toe and shook his head.

"You.. should take better care...of your girlfriend! Haven't had a.. single customer all morning… and now... people come just to mess with my head!"

Zavian—the most powerful and feared man in the city—froze completely after hearing such blunt words from an ordinary operator.

His mind went blank for a moment. He stared at the man in shock.

Never in his life had he imagined that someone so ordinary would lecture him about "handling his girlfriend."

He was about to snap back in anger when the swing finally stopped.

Sheyaan quickly got down and ran toward him, her face glowing with excitement.

"Zayan! That was so fun! It was so...high!"

she said cheerfully.

But Zavian's expression remained cold and rigid. He shot her a heavy, angry look.

Her smile faded instantly when she realized he was genuinely upset.

Just then, the operator spoke again from behind,

"Listen, madam! Keep your 'boyfriend' under control. He was trying...to shut down my ride!"

Sheyaan's eyes widened in shock. She turned to Zavian in disbelief.

"What? Did you... really tell him to stop.. the ride?"

Zavian briefly looked away… but his anger had now shifted toward her.

In a cold yet stern tone, he said,

"Do you even realize you...could've fallen? There's a limit to recklessness, Sheyaan."

To calm Zavian's anger, Sheyaan spoke in a soft, gentle voice,

"Sorry…"

She secretly glanced at him, expecting his anger to be sky-high.

But Zavian surprised everyone.

He completely ignored the operator's rude remarks and the "boyfriend" comment as if he hadn't heard a single word.

His face remained flat and cold—no reaction, no anger. He didn't even spare the man a glance.

Turning to Sheyaan, he said in a firm voice, though there was a hidden plea beneath it,

"Let's go from here…"

"But...why did you.. stop the—"

Sheyaan had barely started when Zavian cut her off,

"Don't engage with that idiot."

This only irritated the operator further.

"Who are you...calling an idiot, huh?…"

he muttered angrily.

But Zavian's mind was focused on only one thing—Sheyaan's safety.

Sheyaan, still a bit shaken, quickly tried to ease the situation.

She apologized to the operator,

"Sorry… please. He was just...just worried about me. I.. apologize on his behalf."

Then she took out some money from her purse and handed it to him,

"Here… and again, I'm sorry."

Hearing her soft voice, the man calmed down a little.

After that, Sheyaan held Zavian's hand and gently led him away from there.

Zavian spoke again, his voice still carrying a hint of irritation,

"Why did you apologize to him? In a low almost teasing tone he said.

"Humans really do love... dangerous games...."do create the most... dangerous things fortheir own.. benefit.

"One wrong move...and you're sent straight to meet god.

"And he hasn't even seen my...powers yet, that's why he was talking...so much."

Hearing this, Sheyaan burst into laughter.

Then she looked at him with a soft, peaceful smile,

"Thank you… I really had fun..today. Truly. And... forget about him now."

Zavian didn't reply, but in his cold eyes, a quiet sense of relief for her safety was clearly visible.

Holding her hand, he led her back toward the car.

leaving behind everything that wasn't worth their time.

Sheyaan had an amazing time today… but as they say, before a storm arrives, life often feels strangely calm and happy.

She knew she had only come out to enjoy herself,

but she had no idea that she had already become a part of Zavian's dangerous game.

They had just stepped out of the park when suddenly—

"Bang! Bang!"

Gunshots echoed through the air.

"Heeeey....Madaaaaaam… watch out!"

The moment Zavian heard the operator's loud scream, he instantly turned back—

and froze in shock.

His heart lurched into his throat.

"Sheyaaaaan!"

he shouted at the top of his lungs.

The "Hidden Spy" who had been lurking in the shadows until now…

had finally revealed himself.

The danger was no longer just a sound in the dark.

it was now standing right in front of them.
