Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: The Part-Time Waitress Vampire

The words "Mystic Falls" made the waitress freeze slightly, her body trembling just a little. "You... where are you from?"

"Mystic Falls. Small town," Shane explained with a smile. "Actually, I left a long time ago. I'm not that familiar with it anymore."

The waitress quietly breathed a sigh of relief, then flashed a thoughtful, radiant smile. "That's such a coincidence. I'm from Mystic Falls too. Like you, I left a long time ago. By the way, I'm Anna."

"This is destiny's guidance," Shane said meaningfully.

Anna smiled. "Maybe we can find some time to chat about Mystic Falls."

"My pleasure."

Shane took out his phone and exchanged numbers with Anna. Since she was still working, they didn't chat much, agreeing to catch up over the phone later.

He ordered two coffees and paid the bill in advance. Soon, Anna brought them over, then went to attend to other customers.

"Skipped the number-tip game, I can understand. But you didn't even tip extra? Are you serious?" Olivia teased Shane while sipping her coffee.

Shane shrugged, smiling without a word.

"So, you like this type?"

Olivia looked at the waitress taking orders for other customers. Black hair, slightly yellowish skin tone, features with distinct Asian characteristics but not entirely—likely a mixed-race Asian.

It was the first time she'd seen Shane actively hit on a girl. Just as she was about to tease him further, Shane shook his head gently to stop her.

That "something's off" feeling returned.

Olivia subconsciously glanced at the waitress again. Another supernatural creature? Shane only seemed to take initiative when he encountered them.

Werewolf?

Shapeshifter?

Vampire?

Olivia used her limited knowledge of supernatural creatures to guess the waitress's identity curiously. Unfortunately, without any obvious traits, she couldn't pinpoint it.

The only thing she was certain of was that the girl wasn't a vampire. After all, everyone knew vampires feared sunlight and couldn't work day shifts.

"Let's go."

After finishing their coffee, Shane and Olivia stood up to leave. Before going, Shane waved goodbye to Anna.

Got in the car. Ignition.

After starting the car, Olivia turned her head impatiently to look at Shane. Shane waved, signaling her to drive first. Once they left the block, Shane smiled and said, "Guessed it?"

"Supernatural creature?" Olivia asked curiously. "So, what is she?"

"Vampire."

"What?!"

Olivia's eyes widened instantly. She said in utter disbelief, "Vampire? She's actually a vampire? Don't vampires fear sunlight? Can't they only come out at night?"

Shane's Supernatural Creature Class is now in session!

"Like I said before, there are many types of vampires. But regardless of type, they all fear sunlight and can't move normally during the day. However, there are a few ways for vampires to live normally under the sun without being affected."

"One is faerie blood. It gives vampires resistance to sunlight, blocking it for a short time, but it has a time limit. Both mixed-blood and pure-blood faerie blood works—but note, not all faeries. It has to be a specific type."

"Another is items made of Lapis Lazuli—like rings, necklaces, and so on. Wearing them allows vampires to walk in daylight. You probably didn't notice, but Anna was wearing a ring made of Lapis Lazuli on her hand. Also called a Daylight Ring."

Daylight Rings came from the show The Vampire Diaries. Shane only remembered the material and function; he didn't know the specific crafting method or if it required a specific witch's spell.

In The Vampire Diaries, many vampires had Daylight Rings. Anna was one of them.

When Shane recognized her, he first checked her hand. Confirming she wore the ring, he then actively offered to be friends and mentioned Mystic Falls.

When he first met Olivia, Shane had also checked her hand. The reason was that Stefan, one of the male leads in The Vampire Diaries, had a female vampire best friend named Lexi, who looked exactly like Olivia.

Shane had used the ring to judge whether she was Lexi from The Vampire Diaries or Olivia from Midnight, Texas.

"Werewolves working as cops and opening restaurants. Vampires working part-time as waitresses in cafes, living under the sun like humans. I've lived this long, only to suddenly realize I know nothing about this world," Olivia lamented with a sigh.

"How did you recognize she was a vampire?" Olivia was very curious. On the surface, neither Anna nor Luke the werewolf looked special. How did Shane identify them at a glance?

"Secret."

Shane chuckled, then warned, "Vampires are more dangerous than werewolves. Vegetarian vampires are rare; to them, humans are just food. Vampires like Anna—if they don't drink blood, their power weakens, and they eventually desiccate into mummies. As for common methods to deal with them: they can eat garlic, crosses are useless, and holy water is drinkable. As long as their diet is healthy and they have blood in their system, they're almost like normal people."

"Especially drinking coffee. The caffeine in coffee accelerates blood circulation, so when others touch her, her body won't feel cold."

"Fire, wooden stakes to the heart—these can kill them. There's also a plant called Vervain. If a vampire drinks it, they become extremely weak. Also, humans wearing or ingesting Vervain can resist vampire compulsion."

"Vampire compulsion is very troublesome. If you encounter a vampire in the future, you must be careful about this!"
