Ignoring the notification sound ringing again, Shane looked at Anna with a faint smile. She had stiffly turned around, her expression awkward and embarrassed.
She wanted to sneak away?
"You..."
"I don't want to dance!"
Shane barely got the word "You" out before Anna interrupted him, her voice tense and agitated. Two vampires who were evenly matched with her had been instant-killed without any resistance. Now only she remained. Considering their earlier conflict, Anna was panicking hard.
First, he exposed her identity without any scruples. Just now, he killed Camille's two vampire subordinates without hesitation. Who exactly was this Shane? Was he really from Mystic Falls?
And his abilities—too bizarre.
When she choked him, he turned into white smoke and vanished. When the scene vampire stabbed his heart, he switched places with a trash can. His counterattack kick was so fast even a vampire couldn't track it. And he could breathe a sea of fire! He was practically a vampire's natural predator!
"Are you after my ring too? The ring is yours. Just let me go!" Anna took off the Daylight Ring and threw it at Shane, her body retreating quietly, eyes staring vigilantly at him.

Shane caught the ring, examined it with interest for a moment, then tossed it back to Anna.
Anna was stunned, unable to guess Shane's intentions.
"Nice ring. I don't need it for now. Maybe I'll get one later if the opportunity arises." Shane put on what he thought was a friendly smile and explained, "I don't want your ring, and I don't want your life. I have no ill will towards you. Our meeting really was guided by fate. If I really have a purpose, it's probably just to make friends with you."
"Why... why do you want to be friends with me? I'm a vampire. Normal people don't befriend vampires. You're so strong—killing vampires is like slaughtering chickens or dogs to you. Would you be friends with a chicken? Do people make friends with chickens?" Anna asked in a low voice.
"People don't make friends with chickens, but they do make friends with dogs. Dogs have always been man's best friend. Cough, cough, you're leading me astray. What chickens and dogs? Are vampires the same as those? Vampires are supernatural creatures. Just because I can kill vampires means I can't be friends with them? Then if I can kill humans, I can't be friends with humans either?"
"My biggest hobby is learning about supernatural creatures. Isn't it normal to make friends with them? Before I met you, I just met a werewolf. To be precise, a whole den of werewolves."
"I heard a werewolf Alpha was chased by his own pack because he was defeated by a human, and afterward didn't even have the courage to look at his enemy. Was that... you?" Anna asked in surprise.
"News travels fast. Even you know about it?"
Shane was slightly surprised, then smiled. "That doesn't matter. What matters is, what do you plan to do next? The attraction of a Daylight Ring to vampires is too great. Camille won't let this go. I'm afraid she's set up a dragnet at every exit in Brooklyn. Even if you hide until dawn and successfully escape, Camille can track your movements. You might be on the run forever, constantly dodging Camille's pursuit."
"In that case... how will you return to Mystic Falls to save your mother?"
"How do you know about that?!"
Anna was shocked again.
Shane shrugged. "How about sticking with me for a while? I need a sparring partner. You're fast, have strong regeneration, and won't die easily. You're perfect for sparring. If you have free time, it'd be even better if you could be my subject for sealing experiments. In exchange, I can guarantee your safety while you're with me. Plus, I'll cover all your expenses during this time. How about it?"
"Can you save my mother?"
"Maybe yes, maybe no. I won't promise you anything. I can tell you I'm very interested in the old tomb where your mother is sealed. After returning to Mystic Falls, I should be giving it a try." Shane really was interested in the tomb's seal—or rather, interested in all supernatural forces.
"I accept!"
Anna agreed without hesitation. She had no other choice. Camille wouldn't let her go. If she died, what would happen to her mother?
Following Shane guaranteed safety and freed her from financial worries. More importantly, Shane wasn't interested in her Daylight Ring, and he might even help rescue her mother in Mystic Falls later. That last point especially—Anna couldn't refuse!
