Madison reached over the couch and picked up the remote.
Before Henry could react, the cooking show disappeared and the channel switched to some late-night drama.
Henry turned his head slowly and looked at her.
"My TV."
Madison didn't even look guilty. She just leaned back comfortably against the couch and crossed one leg over the other.
"My house," she said calmly.
Henry didn't argue.
Instead, he pulled out his phone and stood up from the couch as it began vibrating in his hand. He walked a few steps away toward the window and answered it.
"Yeah?"
Sam's voice came through immediately, tense and rushed.
"Henry. That guy escaped."
"What happened?"
"We found another body," Sam said. "A woman. Same pattern—the heart's gone."
"And if we're right," Sam continued, "he might be heading your way right now."
Henry slowly looked toward Madison across the room.
"Be ready," Sam finished.
Henry cut the call and lowered the phone.
When he turned around, the couch was empty. The TV was still running, but Madison was nowhere in the living room.
Henry frowned.
"Umm… Madison?" he called.
No answer.
His hand slid into his jacket and came out holding the silver knife. He has a feeling Glenn wouldn't be the only werewolf he'd face tonight.
Then something moved behind him.
Before Henry could turn, a violent shove slammed into his back. His body flew across the living room and crashed into the television stand. The TV shattered with a loud crack as his shoulder smashed into it. Sparks popped while the screen went black.
Henry groaned and pushed himself up on one elbow.
Madison stood a few steps away.
Except she wasn't Madison anymore.
Her eyes had changed—pale and feral—and her teeth had lengthened into sharp fangs. Her breathing was uneven, chest rising and falling like an animal fighting for control.
Henry slowly got to his feet, the knife still tight in his hand as he began backing away.
"Okay…" he said cautiously. "Madison, be a good girl and calm down."
The only response he got was a low growl rolling from her throat.
Henry raised the knife slightly, keeping the blade pointed toward her while giving himself space.
"Try to control yourself," he warned. "If you don't, I'm going to have to stab you with this."
Madison didn't stop.
Her body leaned forward as the wolf inside her pushed harder to the surface. She took another step toward him, shoulders tense, eyes locked on him like prey.
Madison lunged at him, claws extended, her movements fast and wild as the wolf inside her took control.
"Okay… no hard feelings then, Madison," Henry said under his breath.
He triggered his super strength. The surge rushed through his body, tightening every muscle. He knew the limit—only a few minutes left. If he didn't end this quickly, the advantage would disappear.
Madison's claws tore through the air toward his chest.
Henry twisted aside at the last second and her strike missed him by inches. As she passed him, he hooked his leg behind hers and shoved her shoulder hard. The shift in balance sent Madison crashing onto the floor.
He grabbed the knife and dropped down with it raised, driving the blade straight toward her heart.
The tip hovered just above her chest.
For a moment he froze.
Madison's face stared back at him—still human beneath the wolf's fury.
Henry hesitated.
That was all the opening the wolf needed.
Madison drove her knee hard into his stomach. The impact knocked the air out of him and sent him rolling across the floor. The knife flew from his hand and skidded somewhere across the room.
Before Henry could recover, Madison was already on him.
She slammed him onto his back and pinned him down, her weight pressing into his chest while her claws dug into the floor beside his shoulders.
Her head snapped forward, jaws opening wide as those sharp teeth lunged toward his face.
Henry jerked his head sideways just in time.
Her teeth snapped shut inches from his cheek.
He shoved against her shoulders, trying to keep her away as she growled and pushed down harder, the weight of her body pinning him to the floor.
"Okay… dumb move," Henry muttered through clenched teeth as he tried to force her off.
It didn't work.
In the middle of the struggle something slipped out of his coat and fell against his arm.
The servant leash.
Henry's eyes flicked toward it.
"Wait… this might work."
Keeping one forearm pressed against Madison's shoulder to stop those teeth from reaching him, he grabbed the leash with his free hand. The moment he slipped it around her wrist, the collar-like strip tightened and changed shape, shrinking into a dark band wrapped firmly around her arm.
Madison's jaws were still hovering inches from his throat when Henry spoke.
"Okay, Madison… I order you to return to being human."
The attack stopped instantly.
Her fangs froze barely an inch from his neck.
Henry swallowed hard.
For a second neither of them moved.
Then the change began.
The feral light drained from Madison's eyes. Her claws shrank back into normal fingers, her teeth returning to normal as the tension left her body. The wolf receded just as quickly as it had taken control.
Madison blinked, confusion replacing the rage.
She looked down.
Henry was lying beneath her on the floor, breathing heavily, staring up at her with wide eyes.
A long second passed.
"Um…" Madison said slowly, still trying to process everything. "What exactly are you doing down there?"
"Me?" Henry said, still on the floor. "I'm trying to look at the ceiling."
Madison frowned. "What?"
Henry pointed upward. "Can't you see? You're the one sitting on top of me, not the other way around."
Madison looked at the position they were in. It looked like she was about to do something—not the other way.
Madison opened her mouth to speak—
—and at that exact moment the apartment door burst open as Dean and Sam rushed inside with their guns raised.
Both of them froze.
The destroyed room.
Henry sitting on the floor.
Madison was sitting on top of him.
Dean slowly lowered his gun, staring at them.
"…Did we interrupt something?" 😏
