"Mm…"
The slug alien clamped a hand over his mouth. He could feel it—that lunatic, that demon, was standing right outside his door. He almost lost control, almost screamed himself hoarse, but he knew he absolutely couldn't. So he covered his mouth even harder… and still, his heart betrayed him, hammering like crazy.
Thump-thump-thump!
One hand over his mouth, the other pressed against his chest.
Tap… tap… tap…
Just as he felt like his heart was about to explode, those footsteps started up again in his ears.
"Did he leave?"
"Should I take a look? Just one look?!"
The slug alien hesitated, curiosity gnawing at him. After a few seconds, he decided to press his face to the peephole and sneak a glance—just one.
Thinking that, he lifted himself up and carefully crept to the door, peering through the peephole with all the caution in the world.
At the same time, the rhythm of the footsteps changed. The neat, steady tap… tap… tap… turned into a frantic taptaptaptaptap…—less like footsteps now, more like coins clattering across the floor.
"Wait… that sound's not right…"
The slug alien's face went white as a horrifying realization hit him—only it was already too late.
"Surprise!"
The moment he raised his head to look through the peephole, he saw a man with eyes glowing red—smiling as he stared straight back at him through the very same peephole.
"I—"
The slug alien jolted at the sight of Jovian outside the door. He started spewing profanity on pure instinct, terrified out of his mind. What—did people seriously think glowing red eyes were just special effects?!
"Sorry, my button fell off!"
Jovian spoke as the red glow in his eyes grew brighter and brighter.
"Bullshit! You're wearing a bodysuit—there aren't any buttons on that thing!"
The slug alien argued for his life.
"Congratulations, you got it right!"
"As a reward, you get…"
Jovian clapped for the big brain in front of him, and then—
"Bzzzt…"
A red beam punched straight through the room, erasing the poor slug kid.
"And you guys too—one look is all I need. Official verdict: you're toast. You're all toast!"
As Jovian spoke, the light in his eyes carved through the air, wiping out every alien hiding in their rooms in an instant.
After that, Jovian kept walking forward. His goal was simple: burn every last alien on this ship into ash, then scatter what's left.
"The enemy's here! Geryuganshoop—once I kill him, I'll head down and save Melzargard!"
Groribas had kept his eyes closed, resting and conserving energy. Now, he felt Jovian's presence. He opened his eyes and spoke to the giant octopus, Geryuganshoop.
"Hurry. If you don't, Melzargard's going to get crushed to death."
Geryuganshoop sounded worried. Sure, Melzargard was always at odds with him, but they were still the three top lieutenants under the cosmic warlord Boros. If Melzargard got pinned and killed like that, where would their pride go?!
Boom—!
As Geryuganshoop was thinking, a thunderous blast shook the ship. Two red beams violently sliced open the door to the room Groribas guarded. Then Jovian flew in from outside, hands behind his back.
"Hah!"
"I'm Groribas, the strongest! Stupid planet local—meeting me is your misfortune! Let me see what you've really got, you intruder! But no matter how strong you are, before my power you have only one choice: submit!"
Groribas leapt in front of Jovian and shouted.
"Bzzzt…"
A red flash—
Three heads hit the floor.
Plop~
Groribas's headless body collapsed to the ground, limp as a puddle of mud.
"I've seen people rush this hard to eat."
"But rushing this hard to die? You might be the first."
Jovian looked at Groribas lying there, the one who'd been so eager to "test" him, and shook his head helplessly.
"You're next, Geryuganshoop!"
Jovian lifted his head. His gaze pierced through every obstacle in his way and locked onto the so-called number one telekinesis master in the universe—Geryuganshoop.
"What…?!"
Geryuganshoop's eyes bulged as he watched Groribas get deleted instantly. Groribas was the standout in raw combat power among Boros's three lieutenants, and he'd been killed in a blink.
That made no sense.
"I'm coming for you."
Jovian said it plainly—and started running straight toward Geryuganshoop.
"Wait—hold on, just wait a second, I mean, please wait, uh…"
Seeing Jovian closing in, Geryuganshoop panicked. As the "brains" among the three, he had zero desire to clash with Jovian at all. And after Jovian killed Groribas, Geryuganshoop didn't have even the slightest confidence he could win.
"…"
Jovian didn't slow down. He kept moving.
"Fine! Okay! I get it!"
"You want to find me, right?"
"I'll tell you exactly where I am! First, when you hit the intersection, turn left!"
Geryuganshoop's voice blasted through the ship's speakers, shaking with nerves.
"No, that's wrong—you went the wrong way! Stop, stop right now!"
But Jovian didn't listen. He just kept going.
"Hey, didn't I tell you to stop?"
"What are you even doing?!"
"Shouldn't there be a little more trust between people?!"
Watching Jovian ignore him completely, the giant octopus felt nothing but agitation and dread.
"I can see you…"
Right as Geryuganshoop was cursing Jovian for not taking the hint, a voice suddenly sounded.
Inside his head.
"This is…"
"Telepathy?!"
Geryuganshoop was well-traveled and experienced. The instant the voice appeared, he recognized it.
"Give up. I've already found you…"
Still staring in shock, he heard it again.
"Wait… what?"
Geryuganshoop suddenly felt something was off, because it didn't sound like the voice was inside his head.
It sounded like it was right by his ear.
"Is the highest level of telepathy… making it feel like the user is speaking beside your ear…?"
Geryuganshoop muttered his thoughts out loud.
"No, you've got it wrong. I wasn't using telepathy just now."
"I was standing right next to you, talking into your ear."
As Geryuganshoop tried to figure out what ability Jovian was using, Jovian stood beside him and lightly patted him on the shoulder.
"I—"
"If you were coming, then come! Why'd you suddenly pat my shoulder like that?! Don't you know I'm timid and I get scared easy?! You almost scared me to death!"
Geryuganshoop looked at the "kind and friendly" Jovian next to him and felt his heart seize up.
