Chapter 51 - My Wife is a Former Valkyrie 3

Life is truly a strange thing.

They say it never goes exactly as planned, but that sentiment isn't reserved for me alone.

I had this thought while watching Kiana being dragged away by her scruff by my Aunt, and Mei—Senior—letting out a heavy sigh as she departed following an emergency contact from Adam and Carole.

Well, in Kiana's case, she only had herself to blame for filing her vacation days incorrectly... but the situation with Mei concerned me.

Lately, something that isn't exactly a Honkai Beast has been appearing.

For now, they aren't considered a major threat, so Valkyrie squads are handling them quickly, but I have a nagging feeling. Their behavioral patterns don't suggest combat; it's more like surveillance and analysis.

How do I know their behavioral patterns?

I have my Aunt to thank for that—she never lets a reserve officer like me just sit idle.

Whatever their purpose, seeing Mei depart to face these new forms of enemies, I decided it was best for us to stay vigilant and conduct our own analysis of them.

"The physical structure is similar to primates, but they lack essential nerves and tendons. We still need research to understand their motor principles."

"What is that thing on its head? A stingray?"

I've already spoken to the scientists at Anti-Entropy about it, but we haven't seen much progress yet.

To be fair, their numbers have been small.

However, one thing was clear: like Honkai Beasts, they are composed of materials not found on this Earth.

Dr. Tesla's hypothesis—'In other words, aren't these just aliens?'—made a lot of sense.

Upon hearing that, something felt like it was on the tip of my tongue, but honestly, I couldn't remember anything specific.

My gut tells me there's something in my memories of my past life, but since I only focused on the original story and didn't think much about the far future beyond it, I've forgotten almost everything that happens afterward.

If only I had something like a photographic memory.

Then again, since the original plot went off the rails the moment I intervened, I doubt those memories would be of much help even if I did recall them.

With that thought, I finished loading the luggage Kiana and Mei had asked of me into the car and climbed into the driver's seat.

Checking the rearview mirror, I saw our daughter sitting in her child seat and Seele fastening the safety belt for her. Sensing my gaze, Seele looked up at me.

"Thank you, Seele. For taking care of our daughter."

"It's no trouble. I enjoy doing it."
