Chapter 243 - A Spy Who Got A System

The Fire Country Daimyo was preparing for bed when a knock interrupted him. Kazuma, one of his Twelve Guardian Ninja, stood at the door with an unusual visitor.

"The old war hawk requests an audience," Kazuma said carefully.

The Daimyo frowned. "Danzo? I thought he was in custody."

"Apparently not, my lord."

The Daimyo gestured him inside. Whatever Danzo wanted, it couldn't be good—but refusing might be worse. He'd hear him out.

---

Danzo Shimura entered with a thin smile that didn't reach his eye. "I've come to discuss the future of The Hidden Leaf."

"Then speak with Hiruzen," the Daimyo replied coolly.

"The Hokage answers to you, does he not?" Danzo's voice carried an edge. "With your support, I could serve the Land of Fire far more effectively than Hiruzen ever could."

The Daimyo studied him. "Tsunade would be a better choice."

Danzo's expression darkened. For a moment, something dangerous flickered across his face—then he smiled again. "Perhaps you need... convincing."

He unwound the bandage from his right eye, revealing a three-tomoe Sharingan.

The Daimyo's breath caught. Before he could react, Danzo's gaze locked onto his own.

Control established.

---

On a nearby rooftop, Hanekawa's eyes snapped open. He'd been monitoring the Daimyo's movements all night—a precaution that had just paid off.

Of course he has a Sharingan. Of course he does.

A shadow clone dispersed into smoke. "Find Hizashi Hyuga. Now."

Hanekawa dropped from the roof and transformed into a Root operative, slipping into position just as Danzo emerged with the Daimyo in tow. The old war hawk didn't even glance at him twice.

"Ding," Danzo commanded. "Summon the Root members to the Hokage Building."

"Yes, Lord Danzo." Hanekawa vanished.

---

The Hokage Building stood quiet in the pre-dawn darkness. Four ANBU blocked the entrance as Danzo approached with the Daimyo.

"Master Danzo," one of them—Haru—began carefully. "What brings you here at this hour?"

"Shimura Danzo is attempting a coup," a voice cut through the night.

Hizashi Hyuga emerged from the shadows, his Byakugan already activated.

Danzo's composure cracked for just a moment. "That's a serious accusation, Hyuga. One you cannot prove."

"You've enslaved the Daimyo with a Sharingan you shouldn't possess," Hizashi said flatly. "That's proof enough."

He attacked without hesitation—a calculated risk, but a necessary one.

Danzo sidestepped the Gentle Fist strike and formed seals. Black markings erupted across Hizashi's arm, spreading like wildfire. The Self-Karmic Bondage Seal locked the Hyuga in place.

Then the night itself seemed to shift.

Mist coalesced without warning. Through it came a torrent of water that carved through the floor like a blade. Danzo threw up a wind barrier and retreated, his mind racing.

Hanekawa.

"Come out!" Danzo's voice echoed through the building.

The ground beneath him erupted. Hands—solid, real hands—grabbed at his ankles. Danzo exhaled a vacuum sphere that detonated the earth, revealing a crater and an unconscious figure.

Danzo smiled. "Not as impressive as the legends suggest."

The body turned to stone.

A lightning bolt screamed through the air. Danzo spun, forming seals, but a dirt wall intercepted him mid-technique. Wind shuriken followed, but Hanekawa's form dissolved into shadow.

"Here," came the whisper from his left.

Danzo turned—straight into a genjutsu. The world twisted. Fear clawed at his chest as illusions consumed his vision.

A blade of thunder and fire pierced his heart.

Reality snapped back. Danzo screamed, blood fountaining from the wound. He lifted his head, disbelief etched across his face.

"You... you dare kill me?"

Hanekawa raised the Thunderfire Sword, lightning dancing along its edge.

"Why wouldn't I?"

The blade fell.

Danzo's vision fragmented. His last coherent thought was confusion—then nothing.

The Inner Four Symbols Seal activated.

Black chakra erupted from Danzo's corpse, a gravitational vortex that pulled at everything nearby. But Hanekawa was already gone, using Body Flicker to escape the blast radius. The seal consumed only air and stone before dissipating into silence.

---

Hizashi stared at the body, still processing what he'd witnessed.

The sound of breaking wind announced arrivals. Hiruzen, Tsunade, and a dozen others materialized around them.

"What happened here?" Hiruzen's voice was carefully controlled, but his eyes widened as they found Danzo's corpse.

"He tried to control the Daimyo with a Sharingan," Hanekawa said simply. "I stopped him."

"You killed him?!" Utatane Koharu's voice rose sharply. "Do you understand what you've done?"

"Saved the Daimyo's life," Hanekawa replied without inflection.

The Fire Country Daimyo stepped forward, his expression grim. He unwound the bandage from Danzo's head, exposing the three-tomoe Sharingan to the assembled crowd.

The reaction was immediate. Uchiha Fugaku's eyes narrowed dangerously. Whispers rippled through the gathered ninja.

"An explanation is required, Hokage," the Daimyo said coldly. "Did you authorize this attack?"

Hiruzen's face had gone pale. "No. I swear it. This was Danzo acting alone."

"Hanekawa saved my life," the Daimyo continued. "Without him, I would be dead or enslaved."

Hiruzen looked at the young ninja—really looked at him—and something shifted in his expression. Resignation, perhaps. Or acceptance of an inevitable truth.

"I am old," Hiruzen said quietly. "And I have failed to control my own subordinates. This responsibility falls on me."

He turned to the Daimyo and bowed. "I resign as Hokage."

The crowd erupted. Koharu and Menen looked stricken. The clan heads exchanged glances—calculating, reassessing.

"I recommend Tsunade Senju as my successor," Hiruzen continued. "She has the strength and wisdom the village needs."

Tsunade stepped forward, her expression unreadable.

The Daimyo nodded slowly. "Acceptable. The Legendary Sannin will serve the Land of Fire well."

As the crowd dispersed to begin the transition, Tsunade caught Hanekawa's eye. She didn't smile, but something in her gaze—pride, perhaps, or quiet approval—told him everything.

He'd just changed the course of history.

And he'd done it without anyone realizing he'd orchestrated the entire thing.

Not bad for a Tuesday night, he thought, feeling the weight of his new S-Rank entry settle into his system.

[S-Rank Talent Entry: Darkness of the Ninja Realm]

[Effect: Defense increased by 200%. All sealing technique power increased by 100%.]

I'll take it.
