Chapter 64 - Chapter 64 - Entering the Portal

The Lost Vampire System Chapter 64 - Entering the Portal

"Five minutes starts…"

Carl trailed off as someone had entered the room. It was the same girl who would ask Carl questions until his head looked like it would explode.

"So, what's going to happen now?" she asked.

That set Carl off as he had had enough, and his hands started to glow.

"Teacher Carl!" Damion shouted as he stood up. "Don't you have 5 minutes?"

Damion's words saved the girl from whatever Evolved power Carl was going to use as he turned his attention to Damion, who was in the back.

"You're right," Carl said as his hands stopped glowing. "Sit down, question girl, before I punish you, and don't even think about asking a question."

The girl quickly nodded as she went to sit in her seat, with her heart pounding as she figured out that Carl seemed to be on edge with her.

Damion sat down in his seat as Carl began.

"Now, today is expedition day, and I am glad all of you followed directions and wore the purple uniforms. The planet that we will be visiting is located within the Astor faction territory. We will be traveling to a military base that was established months ago. What the planet looks like, the Becifers, and the terrain will have to be figured out by you. This will be a part of the competition. Your goal during the expedition is to collect as many Becifer crystals as you can before you head back on the third day. This is not an individual competition but a group one, and your teams are already established. You may work with other teams, but remember that the crystals that your team turns in will be the only ones that count."

Carl walked to his desk, grabbing a water bottle. He took a sip while he picked up a sheet of paper. There was silence for about a minute as he read the contents of the paper before he placed the water bottle and paper down, turning back to the class.

"If two teams killed a Becifer, it is your job to figure out who gets the crystal. Your positioning will determine your rewards. Don't forget about the chance to go to the elite military bases. If you don't care about that, just take note that this will reflect on your record and will determine if someone of importance decides to invite you to their faction or territory. Also, I doubt you want your team to blame you. Once you get to the teleportation room, a military soldier will give you a backpack filled with food supplies. These supplies contain meat sticks for the nervous snackers, food pills, which, if you take one, fill your stomach for 12 hours, and water bottles, which you can fill up. Note that the food pills are expensive to make, which is why there are none at the dining hall."

Carl turned, reading the paper again, and then he turned back around to face the class.

"The planet contains 3 tiers of Becifers. The Becifers are Simple, Advanced, and the occasional Superior. The Superior Becifers have only been spotted five times, so the chance of running into one is low. Remember that within each tier is classified as low, mid, and high, which is why in the one backpack per group that you will be receiving is a scanner."

Jareth smiled as he himself wouldn't need a scanner because of his Appraisal skill.

"With that being said," Carl continued for the final time. "Let's go on the expedition."

Carl started to walk toward the door. A few seconds passed, and Carl didn't stop, so the students got up with excitement to follow after him.

"I think it's time," Damion said excitedly as the group followed the crowd.

"Ugh," Henry groaned. "I really don't want to do this."

"Cheer up," Madison said, patting his shoulder. "You'll be fine."

"Ugh," Henry groaned again.

"Better get a grip on yourself," Hannah scoffed. "Unless you're smart, you'll be doing this for the rest of your life."

Henry's already worried expression now looked scared as he sped up to get away from her.

"Don't scare him," Damion berated Hannah, who couldn't give two sh*ts. "Also, Henry, you also have that armor. You should put it on."

Henry reached into his pocket and pulled out a small chest piece. He slapped the chest piece onto his chest, and it expanded, and the armor wrapped around his chest.

The chest pieces that Henry, Mia, and Keira had were Simple high chest pieces that provided defense to their wearers. They also had a unique skill where you could shrink them down to fit in your pocket.

They followed their classmates down the school hallway toward the stairwell, but just before Carl could reach it, he turned to the left to enter a room. The students followed him into the room. Once Jareth's group was inside, they were in a room just as large as their classroom. There were five tubes along the back. There were also five guards along the sides of the room.

"Listen up," Carl began. "These are the entrance and exit tubes to the flying buildings that you have seen in the sky. The teleportation room is one of the buildings in the sky, and this is the room that will grant you access to it. You will get in the tube, and it will teleport you into the building. Once you land, please move out of the landing area as more people will be coming through."

"That explains why I couldn't find the teleportation room," Damion chuckled.

The students, one by one, started to get into the tubes. A bright white light would surround the inside of each tube, and when the light receded, the student would be gone. The process was slow, but it eventually got to the last group, which was Jareth's group. Everyone got in except for Damion, as he decided to be the sixth member and there were only five tubes.

Jareth and the others stepped into a tube, and the guards closed the door. He was enveloped by a bright white light, shielding his sensitive eyes. When Jareth opened them again, he found himself still inside a tube, but there was a crowd of people in front of him. Before the vampiric could process anything else, the clear tube door opened, and he was pulled out as the guards quickly shut it behind him. A moment later, a white light enveloped the tube, and Teacher Carl stepped out.

Jareth stood in a large, grand, open room filled with students from his class. In front of them were numerous teleportation portals that led to many places, including destinations beyond Becifer planets. Each portal was encased in glass except for one positioned in the center. A purple portal shimmered open directly in front of the teleportation device, sending a faint breeze through the room.

"Listen up!" Carl shouted, silencing the room. "For safety, this is a one-way portal. When going through this portal, you will be teleported to one of eight locations. There is a guard at each location, with it being marked on the ground. Because of this, once you go through the portal, your expedition has begun. Please maintain physical contact when you go through the portal, or you will be separated otherwise. Once you are within the base, there will be multiple dormitory-type buildings. When you are tired, find the building with my name on it. With that being said, good luck, because you lot are going to need it."

The students looked at each other as the first group decided to go. They grabbed each other's hands and walked into the portal, vanishing as they passed through. The next group followed in a train formation, teleporting to the Becifer planet one by one as each member made contact.

"Why do we have to do this?" Henry complained.

"Don't worry," Jareth said. "None of us have been to this Becifer planet. This will be new for us as well."

Henry rubbed his head as if he had a headache.

After a few minutes, only Jareth's group remained. Hannah stepped toward the portal, and the group followed. Damion moved up and grabbed the back of Hannah's shoulders, causing her to stiffen.

"Train formation," Damion chuckled as Hannah seemed to be shaking slightly.

Jareth grabbed Damion's shoulders, Madison grabbed his shoulders, then Emma, and lastly Henry.

"You better be ready," Hannah warned as she began to walk toward the portal faster than the group expected, causing Henry to almost fall.

Jareth's heart began to pound as they got closer and closer to the portal. Once they were close enough, Hannah reached out and touched it, and they were enveloped in a purple light, teleporting to the Becifer planet where the fun and games would not last long.
