Chapter 56 - Chapter 56 - Warning to this Generation

The Lost Vampire System Chapter 56 - Warning to this Generation

"Slowly nod if you can hear me," Arden said in his right ear.

Jareth slowly nodded his head.

"Oh, good," she said. "It works. Your teacher is such a jerk. I hope he knows that it reflects badly on him. Anyway, I transformed this earpiece into something that shouldn't bother your ears too much. If you have to clean your ear, please contact me by pressing on the small device that is nicely wedged in your ear. I know you want privacy, so I just turned off the motion sensor, which was for me to tell if it's working. My team is now looking at me funny, but if you need anything, you know what to do. Same for you, Apollo, if you're in control. It'll just send a message, and I'll reply as soon as I can."

There was a soft click as Arden stopped speaking.

"Well," Apollo began, "she'll be very handy in the future."

Jareth nodded as he decided to pay attention to Teacher Carl again.

"As of right now," he said, "the Lyrackens seem to not be doing anything, and we're not close to the border of the two races, so we shouldn't have to worry about them. I think that is it for now, so hopefully during the class tomorrow or the lesson after lunch, I will have more."

Teacher Carl slowly looked at the girl in the front row and noticed her twitching hand.

"Are there any questions? AGH!" he shrieked in annoyance as, not even a second later, her hand shot up. "You shouldn't have any questions. I explained everything I know."

"What is the planet called, sir?" she asked.

"Were you not paying attention?" he replied as a small vein appeared on his forehead. "I… don't… know."

Her hand went up again, and Jareth wondered if Teacher Carl was going to attack her or not.

"She might be rage-baiting him," Damion said.

"What's rage bait?" Hannah asked.

"Who are you again?" Damion asked, and Hannah's hand balled into a fist as energy gathered around her. "That's rage bait," he finished before she could do anything.

Minutes later, class was over, and they left the building to head to their third class. Damion, Henry, and Hannah parted ways with them as Jareth, Madison, and Emma made their way to the Becifer training class.

"We better get to Major Ethan before he comes looking for us," Madison joked as they entered the first room.

"Yeah," Jareth agreed.

"What are you talking about?" Emma asked as she looked at the two of them.

"I think Major Ethan has taken an interest in us," Madison said. "More than what most teachers would."

"Why?" Emma asked.

"Well, Jareth here is a—er, I mean, has no Evolved power, and my power is similar to the Sword Saint during the war that I think he admires. Though if he thinks that I have been taught by the Sword Saint, then he will be greatly disappointed."

After going through a couple more rooms, they made it to Ethan's classroom and stood at the back. The area was emptier than last time since they had arrived earlier than yesterday, having walked straight there.

At the desk sat Ethan, breathing in through his nose when he caught those same two scents. He looked up toward the back, where he saw the trio, and smiled at the sight of them.

"Good," he muttered. "They're here."

Major Ethan stood up and walked around the outside of the room toward the three. Emma noticed this and whispered to the other two.

"I think you might be right," Emma said quietly as she subtly pointed at Ethan.

The two glanced over and saw that Ethan was already approaching them.

"So glad you're back here," the Major said with a smile. "Now I can help you practice more."

"Thank you for the sword," Jareth said, thanking the Major again.

"Don't mention it," he replied. "Hope it'll come in use tomorrow. Though if you call for help, there is a 25% chance that I will show up."

"What?" Madison asked with a confused expression.

"I don't know what your homeroom teacher told you, but all four majors are coming along with the O-5 lieutenant colonel. The O-6 colonel might come, but only if the Lyrackens do something within the next 24 hours, which I highly doubt. Actually, who is your homeroom teacher?"

"Teacher Carl," Jareth said casually.

Ethan coughed as he was in the middle of swallowing his saliva when he heard this.

"Teacher Carl," he choked. "It sucks that you got him. Don't let him bring you down."

"You know him?" Madison asked.

"Unfortunately, yes," Ethan said. "He's like if negativity were a person, though I will admit some safety features were put in place because of him. Like the majors weren't supposed to come until he said that if his group ran into a powerful Becifer, he wouldn't be able to deal with it. Now, he might have just been lazy and not wanting to do it, but he had a point there."

"Ha," Madison said. "I wouldn't credit him too much if he actually was just complaining."

"Maybe," Ethan said as he frowned for a moment before a smile returned to his face. "Anyway, just hold on a moment. I have to start this class."

Ethan turned and walked back to the front of the room.

"What's he mean, 'hold on'?" Emma asked. "Is he planning to personally train you?"

"Don't know," Jareth answered as Ethan had made it back to the front.

"Welcome back!" Ethan welcomed the group. "To those of you that were here yesterday, I would like to thank you for coming back. I would also like to welcome the ones that were not here, as you were in a different room or one of the other selections. Please grab a weapon from the wall that you want to train with only, and no, you can't keep them. Today, instead of just activating the power within the beast weapon, you will be trying to activate the Becifer weapon's active skill. Unlike last time, all of the weapons on the wall have at least one skill. These skills can be anything, from stunning to power boosts, giving you access to an Evolved power that you don't have, or even the ability to survive an attack that would surely kill you."

There were some gasps in the crowd as they heard this.

"Now some your age won't know this," Ethan continued, "but if you were to get your hands on the perfect Becifer weapons, armor, and accessories, you could become one of the strongest people even without an Evolved power. For example, let's say you only have one Evolved power and you get a full armor set like gloves, chest piece, helmet, mask, shoulder pads, boots, leggings, and more, and somehow each one gave you a different Evolved power, you will definitely be stronger than someone that may have 5 evolved powers."

The murmuring intensified but stopped when Major Ethan continued.

"Don't let my higher-ups know that I told you this, but Evolved powers aren't everything in this world. Each one of them has high-tier and powerful armor that enhances their abilities. If I were to fight myself with no Becifer armor, I would win. I'm just saying that even if you are strong or have multiple Evolved powers, going up against someone with high-tier armor and no powers could still beat you."

"Really?" Jareth asked as he looked at Emma, who he thought had some knowledge of Becifer equipment.

"He's right," she stated. "How do you think Paradigm operates if their whole mission is to get rid of Evolved powers? Once we figured out Becifer equipment, then their mission could go forward because we had something to replace it."

"Did she say we?" Apollo questioned.

I think she was just thinking from their point of view to explain it to us, Jareth thought to the god. Besides, she has an Evolved power.

"That makes sense," the god agreed as Jareth focused his attention back on the Major.

"Don't get ahead of yourself," Ethan gave one last piece of advice, "that doesn't mean much if you have no defense. Lyrackens, even if they have one tentacle, would kill each and every one of you in this room, even if you had your strongest wear an entire set of Simple-tier armor with all the buffs that you get. Their natural strength, speed, and durability are what made the humans of the past almost lose the war. Remember, our population was at 25 billion before the war and is now at 17 billion when the Evolved arrived, showing themselves. Though we have a heavily skewed younger population because the adults went to fight. There are many teenagers now but not many children due to the decline in population. You will be the next generation and the last hope of the human race. So… yeah… anyways, now it's time to train to make sure that we win this war!"
