The Lost Vampire System Chapter 55 - Elite Military Bases Competition
"Looks like I just missed something big," the voice of Madison said as she started to walk on Mia's side. "What happened?"
"The bullying started like Damion warned," Jareth answered. "They were after the ten dollars that we get at the start of each day, and a scuffle happened between the four and Damion, and he won."
"Well, look at that," she said. "We won't have to worry about him."
They continued as they met up with Damion, who calmed down slightly, and after a few minutes, their whole group was together eating. Jareth snuck his food to Madison while giving a piece of bacon to Sophia, who started to eat it like she hadn't eaten anything since her birth, which was true. Henry ate like he was starved, like usual. The group kept asking Damion questions, and he seemed to be fine with it as he would glance at Jareth's right wrist, where the bracelet was.
After the group was done eating, they split as they didn't have the same homeroom class. As usual, Hannah made a fuss about Damion copying her powers, but it only lasted around five seconds as she let him copy her powers. They reached the classroom and went to the back as Teacher Carl began.
"Welcome, everyone, or not," he said as he stood up. "I hope all of you are ready or close to the expedition tomorrow. Today I'm supposed to yap about that. Basically, you will do exactly what you did this morning and be here at 8 a.m. Now you will have a backpack with one set of your military uniform, and I guess for the boys, you can just rock the same uniform like a champ."
Some of the boys did a little cheer as Teacher Carl continued.
"For the girls, don't bring your whole wardrobe. We are only going to stay out there for two nights and return at sunset for day 3. Now this won't be an expedition without a little competition now, would it?"
There was murmuring in the class as Teacher Carl announced this.
"Each of your groups will be a team in this class. Your goal is to collect as many Becifer crystals as you can and turn them in. The higher you are, the more benefits there will be. That will be recognition and bragging rights. Now, this year, since all of the factions have finally joined the cause, there will be smaller military bases that will be built for the elite students."
More murmuring followed, but Carl ignored them.
"Unlike how I would have just chosen the strongest, these smaller elite military bases will be for the best of you, whatever that means. My guess is everything you do this year in these little challenges will make you a candidate for these military bases. My guess is the slots are limited, and nobody in this class may even be selected, but if you want a chance to have your own personal team, you'll need to earn it. Now, the highest-ranking team in the class will get the most points, but I wouldn't stop there if your group is in first for the class, since you will also be competing against the other classes."
"We have to get first," Hannah said, still wearing her mask. "I deserve to go to these elite military bases."
"Who are you?" Damion asked as he looked at Hannah.
"What?" she reacted. "What do you mean, who am I? You know who I am."
"Well," Damion said, "if I don't know you, then these scouts won't know you either."
Hannah scoffed as she leaned her head on her hand.
Madison chuckled as they continued to listen to Teacher Carl's instructions.
"Now for you guys, I wouldn't hope for any chance of becoming part of an elite military base unless you grow by leaps and bounds out of nowhere. Now I already told you about the device, and you won't be supervised, but if you get in trouble, there is a button on the side to call for help. Now when you do that, I won't be helping."
Everyone frowned as Carl just laughed like their lives were a joke.
"All boo-hoo," Carl made a mock crying sound. "I won't be helping because someone else will. Luckily for me, I don't have to come rushing to save you. Someone better than me, a captain or a major will come to your aid. Now, if you are out of its range, which it will tell you, then you are all on your own. Now don't ask about the Becifer planet; I still don't know what it looks like."
Carl slammed his hand on the table in front just as the front-row girl was in the middle of raising her hand.
"Do… I… look like I have finished… my… speech?" Carl's eye twitched.
Her hand immediately went down, and Carl sat in his seat.
"Grumpy," Madison said as she leaned back in her chair.
Jareth was starting to close his eyes as Carl stared at the class like he wanted to jump off a building when Jareth noticed a tiny jumping spider with big, beady black eyes. He frowned as he looked at the spider. The spider raised one of its legs and waved at Jareth. He sat up and looked at it as both of its front legs waved, tapping at the place where its ears would be if it had ears. Jareth smiled as he looked at the rather cute spider. It walked toward him before doing the same thing again.
What type of spider are you? Jareth thought as he activated his Appraisal skill.
"A piece of tech controlled by a level 10 technopath," the Draven System noted. "Level up the skill to find out more details."
A piece of tech, Jareth thought in confusion as he looked closer at the spider.
When he looked closer, he noticed little green lines in the middle of the spider's light gray body and a small green dot in its eyes.
"Arden?" Jareth mouthed, barely making a sound.
The little spider gave a small nod as it moved toward Jareth, who held out his hand. The spider crawled onto his arm and began to travel upward. When it reached his shoulder, its head started to transform, but it kept climbing as the right side of Jareth's neck tingled. He felt it slow as it carefully moved toward his ear, and he resisted the urge to react as the spider shifted into a small earpiece.
"Hello," Arden's hushed voice came through. "Don't say anything if you don't want your group to know about this."
