Chapter 38 - The Bounty Hunters

Ava's POV

The glass was still falling when Leo pulled her into the hallway.

Not gently. Firmly, his hand around her wrist, moving her the way he moved in every crisis fast and certain and without wasted motion. She went with it because standing in a kitchen with an exploded window was not a viable alternative and her legs had already made the decision before her brain caught up.

The hallway was chaos.

Reeves was at the front room door, weapon drawn, speaking into his earpiece in clipped bursts she could only partially hear over the alarm. Cho was at the window not the exploded one, a different one, the narrow one in the hallway that looked toward the street with his body pressed to the wall beside it, checking the angle.

"Two on the north perimeter," Cho said. "At least one more on the roof across."

"Back door?" Reeves said.

"Park is holding it." Cho's voice was flat and professional. "Two more in the alley. They came from both ends simultaneously."
