Since her father disappeared over a year ago for unknown reasons most likely due to the Honkai Kiana had embarked on a journey to find him and investigate the Honkai.
To be honest, she had found nothing. She hadn't found her father, nor had she uncovered any results from her investigation. She hadn't even seen a Honkai Beast or a Zombie since then.
It was truly strange; when she lived with her father, he could always find where the Honkai was with ease. Was it possible that she and her father had already wiped it all out together?
Lately, despite having a goal, Kiana had mostly just been wandering aimlessly.
With the bank card her father left her, maintaining a living wasn't a problem. Her father had also mentioned that if she ran into trouble, she should go to the Far East and look for someone named "De-something." Apparently, she was her aunt. Unfortunately, Kiana had forgotten her aunt's name, but since she still remembered the name of the region, she had come to Nagazora.
The journey started comfortably enough. Thanks to that bank card, Kiana lived like a "salted fish," never worrying about food or drink. However, during the long journey from Europe to Nagazora, Kiana had the misfortune of losing it.
Maybe it was at the airport in Europe, maybe on the plane, or maybe after arriving in Nagazora; she wasn't sure. She just grumbled that her father was stingy for only giving her one card. Couldn't he have given her a few more?
After running out of cash, Kiana was forced to look into the process of replacing the card. However, she went to the wrong bank first, and then discovered that replacing it required a mountain of identification.
Since it was her father's card, how could she possibly have his ID? Now, Kiana had been hungry for an entire day and still hadn't found that aunt named "De."
After finally finding an abandoned building to lie down on a hard bed for a bit and eating a piece of peanut candy that did nothing to satisfy her hunger, she had somehow saddled herself with a debt of one hundred million and apparently owed an emotional debt as well. Kiana felt like she was going to faint.
"Impossible! How could it be that exaggerated!"
Kiana's intuition told her that Hua Yi was talking nonsense, but her intellect told her that his long-winded speech actually made sense. Entangled in conflict, Kiana continued to argue, but her momentum had weakened significantly.
One hundred million was impossible to repay, even if she hadn't lost the card. But... if it was an emotional debt
"If you can give me delicious things every day, I might consider marrying you home."
Kiana's attempt to entice him with an empty promise made Hua Yi, who had been looking forward to a good show, sigh. He had clearly overthought his plan to tease her.
Giving up on nitpicking her wording and logic, Hua Yi glanced at Kiana. Although she had seemed full of energy since he appeared, she was likely exhausted—and more importantly, starving.
"Follow me," he said.
"Oh, okay."
Kiana was momentarily stunned, but after realizing that Hua Yi intended to take her to eat, she nodded quickly and followed behind him.
However, she soon realized they weren't going up to the higher floors of the dormitory but were heading outside. Kiana was quite confused.
"Didn't you say there was food in the dorms?"
"There is, but it doesn't taste that great. I'll take you to a restaurant."
Hearing those words, the girl felt a surge of endless energy. As long as they were headed for a restaurant, she would go without hesitation, no matter how far it was.
Hua Yi brought Kiana to a restaurant, the same one he often frequented with Raiden Mei. The food was good and cheap, and the proprietress was very friendly.
But in the eyes of the proprietress at this moment, Hua Yi's image wasn't exactly favorable.
This guy had actually brought another girl over. With a single glance, she determined that Kiana and Hua Yi were not related. This meant that Hua Yi had either abandoned Raiden Mei for a new love or was two-timing.
While a large harem might not be unheard of given the current male population, especially the number of young men, and with Hua Yi's looks and personality, many girls would likely throw themselves at him, the proprietress suspected he was building a harem in secret. She could not turn a blind eye to such sneaky behavior!
So, after Hua Yi checked Kiana's preference and ordered two set meals, the proprietress offered an apologetic smile.
"I'm so sorry, but the shop has run out of change today. Do you happen to have the exact cash to pay for these two meals?"
"Uh... no."
"Well then, while I prepare the food, could I bother you to go to a nearby shop and get some change?"
Hua Yi was baffled by the proprietress's behavior. Putting aside how unprofessional it was for a restaurant to run out of change, asking a guest to go change money at another shop was highly irregular. Shouldn't the owner find a way to resolve their own lack of preparation?
However, as a frequent customer, Hua Yi didn't feel any actual resentment over such a small matter. Assuming the proprietress was just being careless, he nodded, told Kiana to sit and rest, and stepped out.
Once Hua Yi vanished from sight, the proprietress stealthily approached Kiana and whispered, "Little girl, who are you to him? His girlfriend?"
Kiana was starving and waiting for her meal. Instead of cooking, the proprietress was asking nonsense questions. Normally, Kiana would have said no, but her craving for food seemed to give her a sudden boost in intelligence. She realized that if she said no, she would face more interrogation and explanations, delaying the time she could eat. She immediately gave an affirmative answer.
"Yeah, I am."
"Then do you know he already has a girlfriend?"
The proprietress disappointed Kiana. Even with a "yes," she kept pushing. Seeing that the woman still hadn't moved to prepare the food, Kiana puffed out her cheeks in annoyance.
"I know, I know! That kind of thing doesn't matter. Can you just go prepare my set meal already?"
Seeing Kiana's dissatisfaction, the proprietress said no more. She offered an apology and headed to the kitchen.
