Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Kiana

On this day, when Hua Yi returned to his dormitory, he suddenly discovered that the building which was supposed to be empty and quiet save for himself was echoing with strange noises.

Hua Yi raised an eyebrow and shifted his path toward the source of the sound. Over the past two months, he had acquired combat power far surpassing that of an ordinary person; he wasn't about to call the police over a single unknown intruder.

In the middle of the first-floor corridor of the Tachikawa Academy boys' dormitory, a door had been violently kicked open. Inside stood a young girl with snow-white hair and deep blue eyes.

She was exceptionally beautiful with a fine figure, and her hair, tied into two thick braids, gave her the air of a high-born young lady. However, her behavior and speech were completely at odds with such an image.

The girl sat cross-legged on a wooden bedboard the only thing left in the vacant room shaking her legs leisurely. She was browsing her phone, muttering words like "Nagazora," "Honkai," and "nothing special" under her breath.

As Hua Yi approached the room, the white-haired girl changed her posture, flopping onto her back against the bedboard. She tossed her phone aside and groaned listlessly.

"I'm so hungry... I want to eat some Beautiful Girl-flavored Instant Noodles."

Knock, knock, knock.

Upon hearing a statement that was likely unique even in the vast world of Honkai, Hua Yi knew exactly who had invaded his territory. Originally intending to drive the intruder out, he instead reached out and tapped on what remained of the shattered door frame. The sudden noise made the seemingly exhausted girl spring up from the bed.

"Who are you?"

"Hua Yi, a student of Tachikawa Academy. This is the student dormitory. Isn't it a bit much for you to barge in like this?"

"Huh? A student dormitory? Isn't this an abandoned building?"

The girl's response made Hua Yi's lip twitch. "An abandoned building?"

"Yeah! No one lives here, so it must be abandoned, right?"

Despite being caught as an illegal intruder, the white-haired girl showed no sign of guilt. On the contrary, she sounded perfectly justified.

"I live here. Since I am currently the only male student enrolled at Tachikawa Academy, I am also the only resident."

Even after Hua Yi reached this point, the girl remained unfazed.

"Oh, so it's not abandoned after all."

"..."

The utter nonchalance of her reply left Hua Yi speechless for a moment. While he remained silent, the girl's eyes suddenly lit up as if she had remembered something important.

"Since you live here, you must know where the food is, right?"

"There's food in my room."

At his answer, the girl's eyes shone even brighter. "Take me there, quick!"

"Give me a convincing reason, unknown illegal trespasser."

Hua Yi expected her to rack her brain to come up with some elaborate excuse to get fed. Based on what he knew of her, he figured the excuse would be flimsy at best, perhaps even quite stupid. As it turned out, he had still overestimated her.

"Unknown illegal trespasser? ...Who are you talking to?"

The girl looked left and right, making sure there was no one else around, before pointing at herself with a confused expression. "Me?"

Hua Yi was genuinely stunned. "This is the Tachikawa Academy dormitory; it has an owner. Did you really think sneaking in here and destroying a room door was legal and reasonable?"

"Uh..."

Only then did the white-haired girl realize the role she was currently playing. Her expression froze for a few seconds before she straightened up and spoke with mock seriousness.

"I am Kiana Kaslana. I apologize for the unintentional intrusion, so please, give me something to eat."

As expected, getting a decent excuse out of her was impossible.

Hua Yi pulled a piece of peanut brittle from his pocket a gift forced upon him by a classmate back at Tachikawa Academy. He hoped that after eating a little something, Kiana's currently dull and silly thought process might normalize slightly.

Facing a boy she had only just met, Kiana showed little caution. She gave the treat a sniff, quickly peeled off the wrapper, and popped it into her mouth. After a few chews, she swallowed and immediately extended her hand toward Hua Yi again.

"Tastes good. Too bad it's not filling. Got any more?"

"Before that, I think we should settle the bill. First, you destroyed the electronic lock at the dormitory entrance by forcing it open with brute strength. Then, you kicked down this room's door.

And just now, you swallowed a heartfelt gift from my classmate without a shred of reverence. Rounding it all up, you've caused me a loss of one hundred million. How do you plan to repay me?"

"One hundred million? Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands..."

Kiana actually began counting on her fingers. When she reached "hundred million" and saw her two hands stretched wide, her eyes nearly bulged out of her head.

"How could it possibly be that much? Are you messing with me?!"

Hua Yi was shocked to find that Kiana's concept of money was actually quite normal. He had been prepared to explain exactly how massive one hundred million was a number large enough to make a girl work for him for free indefinitely.

"I'm not messing with you. The electronic lock for this building was meticulously developed by a graduate of Tachikawa Academy; it contains high-end technology and represents deep sentimental value for our alma mater.

While the door itself isn't expensive, the noise created during its repair will disrupt my studies. In fact, I previously interned at a famous enterprise, but I chose to give it up to pursue a greater future through focused study.

If my learning is affected, it might cause my entire life to take a turn for the worse. You've practically destroyed my life's potential, which is easily worth a hundred million. Furthermore, that peanut brittle was a gift from a classmate. How did you feel after eating it?"

Hua Yi was talking too fast for Kiana to fully process, but she figured he must have a point if he could say so much.

Though she couldn't see how her actions could possibly saddle her with a debt of a hundred million, she was unable to formulate a proper rebuttal. Hearing his last question and sensing there was more to it, she grew increasingly nervous.

"Um... it was pretty tasty?"

"That was a gift filled with a classmate's deepest intentions, embodying the pure friendship perhaps even love between us. If she asks for my thoughts after tasting it and I give her a dry answer like yours,

she will undoubtedly be disappointed. A beautiful relationship will be cruelly strangled in its infancy. By that calculation, in addition to the hundred million, you also owe me a relationship."
