Chapter 4 - effects

On the outskirts of New York

A highly secured institute, or psychiatric hospital, emerged among the bushes.

On the surface, it's a mental asylum for rehabilitating individuals. But in reality, it's a center belonging to "Vought International" for manufacturing and improving "Compound V" and reducing its side effects.

The center is located in the suburbs, far from cities and villages, under the pretext of providing psychiatric patients with peace and quiet away from the noise and helping them adapt to nature.

However, the real reason it's remote is that if a superhuman were to get out of control, damage could be minimized, and they could be contained and neutralized before things escalate.

Manufacturing, supply, and experiments are carried out continuously to improve the quality.

In the sky above the asylum

Rogers looked down at the fortified base, surrounded by a wall topped with barbed wire, cameras, and guards patrolling the area.

"Jarvis, disable all networks and all cameras. In short, I want this base completely cut off from the outside world."

"Yes, sir. Everything in the vicinity of the base will be disabled. There will be no signal."

The moment he finished speaking...

Inside the asylum's monitoring room, all the screens suddenly went black, and interference appeared on every single surveillance camera!

The guards saw what was happening and knew something was wrong. They immediately tried to contact the company for help, but the message appeared:

"No Connection."

They tried again and again, but it was useless. Fear and anxiety took hold of them.

Rogers, still in the sky, looked down at the now-stirring asylum and decided to make his move.

He descended from the sky at maximum speed. As soon as he reached the base, shoulder-mounted rocket launchers deployed from his shoulders.

At Rogers' command, the rockets launched towards specific targets: the security room. They flew at high speed, smashed through the glass window, entered the security room, and exploded!

The people inside the room were blown to pieces. They didn't even realize they were dead, the rockets were so fast.

These rockets are characterized by their small size, precision targeting, and maneuverability, but they are devastating. Their small size doesn't mean they lack destructive power.

After confirming that everyone in the security room was dead, Rogers turned his attention to the entrances and exits.

He opened his palm and pointed it at the main door.

A beam of dark red light emanated from his palm, heading straight for the steel door.

The moment the beam hit, it pierced through the reinforced steel door with absolute ease!

Rogers looked at the now-open steel door and entered the base. In truth, Rogers could destroy the entire base with a single cannon blast, but he feared losing or damaging Compound V, which would make his visit pointless.

Rogers entered the base and saw the guards and scientists. Without any delay, small missile launchers deployed from his shoulders. Each launcher contained forty tiny missiles, about the size of a carrot or a banana.

The missiles launched at top speed. Each missile was equipped with a smart tracking system, coordinating their attacks to avoid colliding with each other.

The missiles reached the guards and scientists. For some, a missile reached their ear, exploding and shattering their face.

Others were hit at the back of the head and exploded!

Nearly eighty missiles, each锁定 on its target and following it, whether the target was hiding behind a desk, under a table, or even inside the bathrooms.

The missiles tracked all living targets in the asylum, and they exploded.

You could hear explosions every now and then, signaling another target eliminated, as the missiles weren't programmed to stop or detonate until they hit their mark.

The sounds of explosions continued for a while, then the asylum fell silent... an eerie, cold silence...

Throughout the operation, Rogers hadn't moved. He just stood there, watching and confirming the missiles' effectiveness.

Although the missiles weren't incredibly powerful, for ordinary humans, they were like a wasp or a fly – no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't get rid of it.

Rogers entered the control room and instructed Jarvis to activate only the surveillance cameras monitoring the superhuman individuals.

The surveillance screens switched to footage of individuals in various, highly-secured rooms, showing people displaying their unique abilities.

Like individuals whose lower body seemed to phase into invisibility, or others whose bodies were covered in thick, animal-like fur, or people whose hands transformed into plants growing from their bodies.

All kinds of abilities, but everyone here lacked control over their power.

Rogers opened a safe protected by solid steel and found inside over thirty vials of "Compound V"!

Rogers was surprised by the quantity. He hadn't expected the stockpile to be this huge. You have to understand that the cost of each one of these vials is no small matter.

If "Vought International" knew that all the money spent on the base and the Compound had gone down the drain, they'd probably kill themselves.

"Hahaha," Rogers couldn't suppress his laughter, gloating over their loss.

After taking the compounds and safely storing them in the "Multi-Dimensional Storage" that came with the Iron Man template, he turned his attention to the test subjects – the rats and the people who had been experimented on.

He scrolled through the information and found that most individuals' abilities weren't, shall we say, impressive; they didn't really add much.

As Rogers reviewed their data, he felt a wave of disappointment and decided to kill them all.

"Suddenly," his attention was caught by one individual with a special ability.

The ability to control magnetism!!

Excitement surged through Rogers.

He realized that if he could add the power and energy of magnetism to his own suit, it could mean a major evolution in his offensive capabilities, increased speed for atmospheric penetration, and enhanced strength of the base armor itself.

Rogers knew he was physically stronger than normal humans, but compared to superheroes like Homelander, Soldier Boy, or Queen Maeve, he still had a long way to go.

He decided that as soon as he returned to his private lab, he would perform a procedure on himself – not just to wear the suit, but to become the suit itself.

Rogers decided to take this person with him to his private lab, conduct research on him, and find out if he could transfer his superpower to himself.

Rogers pressed a button, releasing a sleeping gas into the magnetic-powered individual's room. The man quickly fell asleep.

Rogers went to him and placed more than four "Mind-Control Bugs" on him to ensure complete control.

The "Mind-Control Bugs" entered his brain and turned him into an individual with no past and no goals, making it easier for Rogers to conduct his research.

Once he was done with him, Rogers transferred all the files and information related to the previous experiments, whether concerning Compound V or the test subjects themselves.

He returned to the control room and, after confirming he hadn't left any evidence of his presence, decided to leave.

He carried the young man with magnetic powers and flew up to a height of thirty meters.

Rogers looked down at the base below him, empty and silent.

He opened his palm, pointing it downwards. A dark red beam shot out, but not like the previous time. This time, the beam expanded and formed into a pulsing black sphere, swirling with terrifying red energy!

Rogers gazed at the sphere, which contained highly compressed energy – both thermal and electrical.

He could feel the immense destructive power contained within the sphere.

Feeling its power, he decided to direct it towards the center of the base. The sphere descended, neither too fast nor too slow.

As the energy sphere descended, Rogers didn't hesitate. He moved away from the base, or the asylum. He knew the blast would affect him if he stayed – not that the energy would harm him, as his suit would protect him, but the young man with magnetic powers would be killed by the explosion.

And Rogers didn't want to lose such a crucial resource for evolving his own power.

As soon as he was a safe distance from the asylum...

"BOOM!!"

A massive explosion shook the ground. The sound of the sphere's detonation pierced through the surroundings. Everyone in New York City heard the terrifying noise. In fact, the windows of some buildings shattered from the sheer force of the sound.

Rogers moved further away from the blast radius, watching the mushroom cloud. It wasn't enormous, but it was still terrifying.

"Jarvis, show me the base. I want to see what it looks like now."

"Yes, sir." As soon as he spoke, images appeared showing a cracked, blasted earth, devoid of any trace of trees or life in its vicinity.

The picture showed what looked like a massive pit of dirt!!

Anyone passing by would never believe that a psychiatric hospital once stood there...
