This is the Way.
"Falcon Squadron has now split into two elements. Falcons One through Four are staying with the Vast Silence, conducting patrol and security missions around Rishi. Falcons Five through Twelve are coordinating with the four Gozanti-class carrier escorts and pushing south to conduct combined ship-air search operations."
"Specifically: Falcons Five and Six with the Gallant in Sector Alpha; Falcons Seven and Eight with the Grit in Sector Bravo; Falcons Nine and Ten with the Glory in Sector Charlie; Falcons Eleven and Twelve with the Grand in Sector Delta."
…
So far, the Fang-class fighters and the Gozanti-class escorts hadn't found anything. Of course, the search had only been running for one day, so that was normal. But Max Vizsla knew perfectly well that even if they searched for a month—or a year—there was still a very real chance they'd find no trace at all.
To be frank, for the Bespin Mandalorian Armed Forces Navy First Fleet, finding Kamino was a task bordering on impossible.
Twelve parsecs—the distance between Kamino and Rishi—was an awkward number. For sublight realspace travel, twelve parsecs was far too far; even traveling at lightspeed would take forty years. But for hyperspace travel at tens of thousands to millions of times lightspeed, twelve parsecs was too close—without precise coordinates, you simply couldn't make the jump.
If I find it, it's my luck. If I don't, it's my fate. Max comforted himself: whether they found it or not, they could treat this as tempering the First Fleet.
"The Second Fleet—excluding the still-understrength carrier aviation component—has embarked in full aboard the two fleet support ships, Cloud City and Sky City. Under escort by two Kom'rk-class starfighters from Screeching Eagle Squadron, they departed Cloud City at 0800 on Galactic Standard Date Year 4, July 26, and are closing on our position."
The First Fleet staff continued their report.
"They're expected to reach Corellia on August 7—three days from now. They will rest for one day on Corellia and replenish supplies…"
Max raised a hand, cutting the report off. "Order: extend the Second Fleet's rest period on Corellia to three days. Adjust the replenishment plan. Without compromising ship safety, load as much as possible."
"Understood. Do you have specific replenishment requirements to pass along?"
"I'll give you the key points—write them down. Everything else, let Commander Lai Vizsla handle."
"Understood."
First: they needed to buy a hyperspace beacon set. Back in the Republic's golden age, fearless hyperspace explorers had reached the Rishi Maze and deployed a beacon array on Rishi. In 24 Brs, the H'kig refugees arrived here and—after crossing the river—turned around and destroyed the beacon array on Rishi.
Twenty-nine years later, Rishi's true position and its charted position had drifted into a massive discrepancy. In fact, if it hadn't been for the Force giving Max a very timely warning—prompting him to order an early reversion from hyperspace—the First Fleet would have plowed straight into the star Rish yesterday.
Of course, Max Vizsla wasn't one of those selfless, courageous explorers of the golden age. The new beacon array would not broadcast its position on public channels.
Next: they needed to purchase several hundred single-person smoke grenades, plus dozens of smoke-laying pods that Fang-class fighters could mount—specifically the kind that produced colored trails. Max planned to stage a large aerial demonstration over Rishi and invite as many nest representatives as he could possibly get to attend.
Two LH-3210 freighters, two C-9979 commercial cargo ships, three Purr-Fold Whale–class vessels, and four Gozanti-class ships would thunder across the sky in a shadow-blotting pass. After that, a wedge-formation Fang fighter flyby and a Mandalorian warrior flyby—each dragging colored smoke—would make low-altitude passes in sequence.
Given the Rishii obsession with shiny things, Max even planned to personally go up and do an aerial lightsaber duel show with Christopher Rayne.
In short: make it big. Make it cool. Make it so flashy it hits stone-age Rishii with maximum "high-tech space civilization" shock. Then, while the Rishii were still stunned and their brains were rebooting, press the advantage and recruit at scale on the spot.
If they could fill two LH-3210 freighters with recruits, that would be ideal, Max thought.
Also: based on the body-size data collected from the Golden Dragon and the Full Fortune crews, they needed to buy clothing for them. Anyone who signed a new contract with Beskar Steel Security would receive four complete sets of new clothes—underwear, sleepwear, outerwear, everything. Anyone who didn't sign would still get at least one set of modern-manufactured underwear.
These poor souls averaged close to sixty years old; expecting them to enlist was unrealistic. Max only hoped they could keep working for another two or three years—long enough to train a batch of apprentices—before retirement. As for where those apprentices would come from, they'd probably have to recruit them from the Cloud City cargo fleet. Expecting illiterate Rishii to learn to operate starships in two or three years was… also not very realistic.
Son of a bantha—those H'kig zealots were inhuman. They loved breeding so much, yet they couldn't loosen control a bit and let the crew have children too? Max fumed with righteous indignation.
Beyond that, they needed to purchase as much high-energy emergency ration stock as possible.
"Drain every pool onboard. Make space for more rations. Gyms, reading rooms—pack them with rations. As long as it doesn't affect safety, comfort can go to hell. Tell Lai Vizsla he must lead by example. It's only a twenty-day transit—grit it out and they'll be here. The moment they reach Rishi, immediately begin cargo transfer and revert Cloud City and Sky City from freighters back into luxury liners!"
"Yes, Chief."
Because the Golden Dragon and Full Fortune—and their Galand crew, and the Rishii they were about to take aboard—were all, in practice, not people who could safely be exposed, Max planned to have the two LH-3210 freighters depart Rishi directly for Bespin once Rishii recruitment was complete, with no stops anywhere for rest or resupply.
Rishii were still in the stone age; their productive capacity was extremely limited. If they couldn't gather enough food during this window, then on the trip back to Bespin they'd have to lean on emergency rations to bridge the gap.
Under Max Vizsla, the first non-Mandalorian army was beginning to take shape.
As for what the Bespin Mandalorian Armed Forces would become afterward—an independent elite force, an officer corps distributed into a larger army, or something else entirely—Max Vizsla hadn't decided yet.
…
PS: The C-9979 commercial cargo ship is the most common freight-transfer companion to LH-3210 freighters. However, the C-9979 can also be configured with a hyperdrive and operate independently as a transport. Its military variant is the famous Trade Federation landing craft.
PPS: The H'kig weren't just "kind of" obsessed with breeding. By the time of the Battle of Endor, Rishi had nearly two billion H'kig followers.
