That was the thing she would come back to later, in the quiet of her apartment with a glass of wine she did not particularly want and the city doing its indifferent evening thing outside her window. She had been having a reasonable morning. Not a good one, not the kind of morning that arrived with any particular lightness or promise, but a functional one, the kind she had been assembling deliberately and with some effort since the night of the Moonshine launch. She had developed a system for it. Wake early. Run the cove path before the city got loud. Shower, dress, arrive at the office before most of the team so that the work was already in front of her by the time people started filtering in and she had something to look at other than her own thoughts.
