Just as the two were talking on the phone, the Hell's Kitchen police, in their dilapidated police car, showed up again. The police always seemed to arrive so promptly.
The police officer who came to question Chen Ye was none other than Chen Ye's old acquaintance, George Stacy, Gwen's father.
George Stacy stepped forward and asked Chen Ye, who was on the phone, "What's going on, Chen Ye? Can't you just stay out of trouble? How come there's another group of people lying in front of your restaurant today!"
Seeing this, Chen Ye could only cover the phone and say to George Stacy, "This time, I didn't provoke them. It was a group of people claiming to be from S.H.I.E.L.D. who insisted on taking Pietro and his sister away. I'm currently negotiating terms with the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., so don't bother me."
George Stacy, hearing this, could only wait on the side for Chen Ye to finish his phone call.
On the other end of the phone, Nick Fury, seeing that Chen Ye wasn't speaking, could only say, "Mr. Chen, S.H.I.E.L.D. has many collectibles, some mysterious, some from outer space. We can lend you one. And I can authorize up to five million dollars. How does that sound?"
Nick Fury's calculations were excellent. S.H.I.E.L.D. had a pile of collections, and he hadn't even figured them all out yet. Lending one out was no big deal, and besides, he hadn't specified when it would be lent.
Then, a five-million-dollar compensation, and later report to the World Security Council that this loss cost several hundred million dollars. That would solve S.H.I.E.L.D.'s funding issues.
"Twenty million, two collectibles, and I get to choose. I'll come visit on a later date. Also, I have two conditions. If you don't agree, I'll have the police take them away directly," Chen Ye said resolutely.
Nick Fury could also hear the decisiveness in Chen Ye's words, knowing this was the final offer.
And Chen Ye's offer wasn't unacceptable, but hearing the word "conditions," Nick Fury felt uneasy, like he was about to get on a pirate ship.
But at this point, he could only grit his teeth and say, "Tell me your two conditions first. Let's see if I can handle them."
Chen Ye looked at George Stacy beside him, then at the old police car, and said, "First, the police department in Hell's Kitchen needs equipment. The police cars are quite old. Even if I donate money, look at our police cars; they've been used for more than a decade and are falling apart. S.H.I.E.L.D. must have a lot of good equipment. Sponsor them. The requirement isn't high; just the equipment, weapons, and police cars you're retiring."
George Stacy, who had just finished understanding the situation from Master Ye and the others, didn't expect Chen Ye's request was for them. This made the public-spirited police chief both moved and happy.
He knew all too well how impoverished the police department in Hell's Kitchen was. The city government seemed to have forgotten this precinct, allocating only enough funds each year to cover regular salaries, with no money for promotions, raises, year-end bonuses, or equipment upgrades.
Taking the lowest salary and the most outdated weapons to deal with the most vicious criminals. That's the current state of the Hell's Kitchen Police Department. If it weren't for the justice in their hearts, who would be a cop in Hell's Kitchen?
So they all loathed this place and its people. Unexpectedly, the person they loathed the most ended up speaking up for them. How could this not move the police department?
George Stacy looked around and saw that the other police officers who had heard were looking at Chen Ye with reverence.
Nick Fury on the other end of the phone was stunned by Chen Ye's conditions. He thought it would be some outrageous demands, but it was just this.
"No problem, I still have this much authority. We have a lot of outdated equipment every year. I didn't expect Mr. Chen Ye to be more kind-hearted than I imagined. It seems we need to re-evaluate you," Nick Fury readily agreed.
He didn't expect this Chen Ye to have a positive side, and it seemed he wasn't someone who only cared about his own interests.
The judgment on the intelligence was still a bit one-sided, and maybe he could be included in the reserve list of his superhero program.
Seeing that Nick Fury on the phone agreed so readily, Chen Ye also had Master Ye withdraw the gravity on all the agents. These agents slowly stood up amidst a chorus of groans.
At this moment, Natasha and Coulson joined the agent team.
"One last point, and the most important one," Chen Ye said seriously, sweeping his gaze across all the agents present. "You said you'd agree to anything as long as it wasn't a big deal," Nick Fury said on the other end of the phone, knowing that Chen Ye had already released the agents.
Chen Ye looked at Coulson and Natasha, and said loudly, "I hope you stay away from my territory in the future, preferably forever. Can you do that?"
Nick Fury was stunned for a moment. He had just started to have some positive thoughts about Chen Ye, but the other party had knocked him back down into the abyss.
Nick Fury said with a dark face, "I can't guarantee that. I can only say that today's events won't happen again. As long as you don't do anything wrong, we won't take the initiative to bother you."
"That's enough. Remember to send the money over. I'll visit and take a look at my collection another day," Chen Ye said, then hung up the phone and turned to Natasha.
"I hope we never meet again. It's never good when I see you. Agent Natasha, goodbye, I won't see you out."
Then Chen Ye walked into the restaurant without looking back.
The residents outside Hell's Kitchen saw the agents slink away and immediately cheered, shouting with delight.
They were all residents of Hell's Kitchen. Normally, these government officials treated them with disdain, looking down on them and never showing them any respect.
The government officials never cared about the lives of the people in Hell's Kitchen, as if this place had been forgotten. However, Chen Ye had won against these officials, which made them very excited, as if they were the victors.
Hell's Kitchen Police Department Chief George Stacy couldn't help but sigh, "It seems like it's been a long time since I've seen this kind of scene in Hell's Kitchen."
This sentence was overheard by Deadpool, who was preparing to leave. He surprisingly said seriously, "Because they have seen unprecedented hope."
The next second, Deadpool reverted to his usual cheeky expression and shouted at the residents of Hell's Kitchen, "Party! Feast! Drink! Chen Ye's paying! Let's go!"
George Stacy heard this and looked in the direction of the restaurant door with a complex expression. Was Hell's Kitchen finally about to welcome a savior?
The people of Hell's Kitchen felt that since Chen Ye had returned, they seemed to be slowly able to live as ordinary people. This feeling was both strange and expectant.
The cheers of the residents echoed throughout Hell's Kitchen.
Not far from Chen Ye's district, a blind hero who wore a red and black suit every day and traversed the streets and alleys of Hell's Kitchen heard the cheers coming from not far away.
"That direction, is that guy's territory? It's been a long time since I've heard such a sweet and beautiful sound in this desperate place. What did that guy do again? I really want to get to know this guy." Daredevil muttered to himself with a complex expression.
Although Daredevil had never met Chen Ye, he had long heard of him. After all, Chen Ye was the godson of Kingpin, the man Daredevil hated the most.
But Daredevil also admired Chen Ye. Look at the Continental Hotel, the community school, and the several blocks Chen Ye was protecting, which were all things Daredevil himself couldn't do.
Daredevil had always thought that only he was truly saving Hell's Kitchen, but he didn't expect Chen Ye to show him a different way.
In Fisk Tower, Kingpin had just finished listening to his subordinates' report on what had just happened.
Kingpin said with satisfaction, "This stinky boy is doing pretty well. Now is indeed not the time to go against the government, but we also can't let them think we're easy to bully."
Then he immediately instructed his secretary, "Arrange a meeting for me with the councilman of Big Apple City. I heard he's short on funds for his mayoral campaign, and Fisk Industries is interested in sponsoring him."
Afterward, Kingpin turned to look out the huge floor-to-ceiling window. The scene outside was the dim Hell's Kitchen, and he sighed from the bottom of his heart, "Hell's Kitchen is slowly becoming lively. Let me see how far you can go."
