Han Shaoqing had yet to claim the Amazon warriors of Paradise Island and Wonder Woman herself, and now Esdeath had appeared. The system's favoritism was so blatant that he felt a hint of helplessness.
Esdeath was one of the anime world's most renowned goddesses. In the world of *Akame ga Kill*, she was known as the strongest general in the entire Empire, possessing strength that far surpassed any other soldier.
With speed and explosive power exceeding that of wild beasts, she excelled in all forms of combat. She often deliberately spared her opponents just to prolong her enjoyment of the fight.
Using her Ice Imperial Armament, she could instantly freeze enemies, create massive ice pillars, or shatter them with a barrage of ice arrows. She could also instantly erect dozens of ice walls for defense.
After mastering her ultimate technique, Esdeath could even freeze time itself during battle, leaving her enemies vulnerable to her devastating attacks.
In terms of raw strength and physical constitution, she might not be able to match Laufey, but her mastery and application of ice were far superior.
Now was not the time to claim her, though. After successfully completing the check-in, Han Shaoqing waved his hand to annihilate several approaching Frost Giants. He then stepped on a few of their dead heads, but to his disappointment, it had no effect.
*Maybe it's because the fodder characters lack enough presence to meet the check-in requirements.*
Freeing his hands, Han Shaoqing formed an impenetrable steel bastion with Dominator and Destroyer. They unleashed their respective techniques, slaughtering the invading Frost Giants. The remaining ones, terrified, fled in disgrace.
Han Shaoqing took to the skies and stood in mid-air, gazing down at the routed army of Frost Giants. He did not pursue them to the last man.
*There would be no benefit in doing so. Han Shaoqing refused to engage in meaningless slaughter.*
*Still, it had to be said: these Frost Giants were terrible in a fight, but they sure knew how to run.*
"Dominator, don't bother chasing them!"
Han Shaoqing called out to halt Dominator. Only with the threat of the Frost Giants would Asgard remain vigilant and, in turn, become more dependent on his power.
Dominator flew to Han Shaoqing's side, watching as Destroyer entered the [Gate of Babylon]. His eyes filled with admiration. "Your Highness, you are truly magnificent."
Han Shaoqing stowed [Gungnir] and shook his head. "It's just that the Frost Giants are too weak."
Below, the Asgardians' breath hitched.
*What a joke! If the Frost Giants were truly so weak, why would Asgard consider Jotunheim its greatest threat?*
It usually took over a dozen Asgardian Warriors to defeat a single Frost Giant, and that was in Asgard. In the frigid environment of Jotunheim, the Frost Giants' strength would be drastically enhanced.
Yet, at the thought of Loki's heroic feat—slaying King Laufey the Just with a single spear strike—all the Asgardians cheered.
This victory over the Frost Giants sent Loki's prestige soaring to unprecedented heights.
In the eyes of the Asgardians, Loki had become king, but he was still the God of Mischief—unreliable and untrustworthy.
Their ideal heir to the throne had always been Thor.
But now, Loki had accomplished a monumental feat: slaying King Laufey the Just, repelling the Frost Giants, and protecting Asgard. He had also demonstrated immense power, instantly winning the support of many.
Some noticed Loki's rapid growth in strength and felt surprised, but they didn't dwell on it.
A strong king was a good thing. Only a powerful king could safeguard Asgard's security and honor.
Next came the cleanup: clearing the battlefield and tending to the wounded.
"Dominator, return to guard the Bifrost."
After sending Dominator back to the teleportation chamber, Han Shaoqing directed the other Asgardians to rescue the survivors and repair the damaged buildings.
Everything proceeded in an orderly fashion, and Han Shaoqing's casual gestures unintentionally boosted his reputation to a new level.
After settling these trivial matters, Han Shaoqing returned to the Golden Palace and began considering visiting other worlds.
Asgard is the realm where the Aesir reside, also known as the Divine Realm or the Celestial Palace. It is located at the top of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, and is connected to the other eight realms.
The eight realms are:
Vanaheim: The home of the Vanir, who control the growth and reproduction of all things between heaven and earth, as well as the ocean and the wind.
Alfheim: The Land of Light Elves, where the Elves reside. The Elves are exceptionally beautiful and possess various powerful magics.
Midgard: Also known as Middle-earth, the realm where humans live.
Jotunheim: The land of the Giants, ruled by the gods' greatest enemies, the Frost Giants.
Nidavellir: The home of the Dwarves. Though called Dwarves, they are not actually short. They are skilled artisans who possess various mysterious powers and profound knowledge. They forged many treasures, and Odin's Gungnir, Thor's Mjolnir, and the later Stormbreaker were all crafted by the Dwarves.
Helheim: The Realm of the Dead, a domain sharing its name with the Queen of the Underworld, Hela. Also translated as "Hell," it is a cold, fog-shrouded place of eternal night. No living being can set foot here; only the dead may enter.
Svartalfheim: The Realm of the Dark Elves, now a desolate wasteland.
Muspelheim: The Realm of Fire, a scorching land south of the Ginnungagap, guarded by the giant Surtr.
Of the Nine Realms, except for Midgard, where humans dwell, and Vanaheim, which had long since fallen into ruin, all others had been conquered by Asgardian warriors led by Odin and Hela. Consequently, they all remained largely under Asgard's dominion.
However, as Odin grew old and the Celestials emerged, he realized that there were always greater powers in the universe. His ambition gradually waned, and he transitioned into a benevolent ruler who rarely went to war. After sealing Hela away, his control over the other realms grew increasingly lax.
Later, Odin foresaw the coming of Ragnarok. Perhaps out of despair, or perhaps simply from exhaustion, he ceased to take an active interest in managing the other realms.
Now, the major realms have begun to stir, and the cries of rebellion are growing louder.
This is why Thor believes Odin's old methods no longer work.
As he reviewed the history of the Nine Realms, Han Shaoqing noticed that much of it had been sanitized, some accounts even completely contradicting reality.
Han Shaoqing merely smiled.
History is written by the victors. Odin had omitted his own brutal conquests, the slaughter across the Nine Realms, and his plundering of treasures. Instead, the records spoke only of his glorious achievements, painting his unprovoked wars of aggression as the marches of a righteous army.
How ironic, yet how true.
He looked up at the grand mural depicting Odin's family in a display of filial piety, the Nine Realms in harmony, and the signing of a peace treaty at a grand banquet.
Han Shaoqing knew that hidden beneath this facade lay another mural—one depicting the bloody massacre Odin and Hela had unleashed upon the Nine Realms.
The original image had simply been covered by a fig leaf of deception. This chapter of history had been completely erased, to the point that even Thor remained ignorant of his own sister's existence.
Asgard's prosperity was built upon the flesh and bones of other realms.
Thus, the inhabitants of those realms largely despised Asgardians.
Closing the book, Han Shaoqing tapped its cover lightly with his fingers.
Asgard and the other realms shared the same cosmic latitude but were located in different galaxies, connected by the branches of Yggdrasil.
Yggdrasil was no ordinary tree; it was a unique entity beyond human comprehension. Besides the Bifrost, the Nine Realms could also be reached via spatial portals found along its branches.
Loki often did just that.
Having acquired a portion of Loki's memories, Han Shaoqing had already marked these connection points. He no longer needed the Bifrost to travel to other realms.
His first target was Jotunheim.
