The farming settlement was about forty minutes east of Lumendell's outer walls, close enough that the guild hadn't bothered arranging a wagon.
Which meant forty minutes of walking through open countryside with Yuki Frostwhisper, who had said exactly four words since they left campus.
Those words were:
"Oh. Okay. Let's go."
Ashara tried again.
"So, Yuki. You've been at Vanguard for a few weeks now. How are you liking it?"
Yuki walked beside her with her staff in both hands, held across her body like she wasn't sure which end was the top. Her pink hair was messy. Her light blue eyes were fixed on something in the middle distance. Possibly a tree. Possibly nothing.
"It's nice," Yuki said.
"Yeah? What's your favorite part?"
There was a long pause. A very long pause. Ashara was about to ask again when Yuki said:
"The beds are soft."
"... The beds?"
"Mm. Very soft. I fall asleep fast."
[Okay. We're working with that.]
"What about classes? You like any of the instructors?"
