Chapter 9: The Words That Shocked Everyone

The hall had not yet recovered from laughter when the Nameless spoke.

"Master," he said calmly.

"Good morning. How are you?"

Silence.

Then he added, without hesitation,

"Daddy, I want your help."

Two words.

Master.

Daddy.

The hall froze.

Gods, students, attendants—every presence stood speechless. For those who did not know, the words were impossible. For those who did, they were inevitable.

Because long ago, the God of Destruction had been the Nameless Monarch's teacher.

Decades earlier, their relationship had been strong. Honest. Almost peaceful. It had broken because of something both simple and complicated at once—responsibility.

The God of Destruction had once wanted the Nameless to be his son-in-law.

The Nameless had refused.

"Marriage," he had said then, "is for people who belong to people. Love is for people. And you… you are destruction."

The irony was cruel.

When the God of Destruction had struggled with his own marriage, it was the Nameless who helped him. Not as a god. As a student. As a listener. As someone who understood balance better than destruction ever could.

That was why the God of Destruction had wanted him as family.

And that was why the answer had hurt.

Still, the bond never truly died.

Before they fought.

After they fought.

Even after they became enemies.

Once every year, the Nameless would come to this kingdom—not for war, but for fun. To provoke. To tease. To remind.

And always, the God of Destruction's wife would treat him as a son.

When the God of Destruction grew angry and tried to throw him out, the Nameless would run to her.

"Mom," he would say, "your husband is kicking me out. I came to see you."

And she would scold her husband.

"You are like my son," she would say. "Why would I let you be thrown out?"

The performance was flawless. Convincing. Too convincing.

The God of Destruction had almost killed the Nameless hundreds of times.

Yet he never did.

That was why he made the rule.

If you fight an enemy—kill him immediately.

The rule he gave his students was born from the one enemy he could never bring himself to kill.
