Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - Am I prepared to kill someone?

As soon as I saw the sword coming toward me, I quickly raised my knife to block it. The moment our weapons clashed my knife had lost a considerable amount of durability.

"What the hell is this?!" I shouted, glaring at the man.

Then I noticed there were three more men right behind him.

The man in front held a sword, while the other three carried different weapons. One had a spear, another an axe, and the last one was holding a bow. They all looked extremely irritated with me.

The words of the man who seemed to be their leader… One of my clones must have done something.

"You challenged us like that and then started running like a bitch. Did you really think you could escape from us?" The man grinned maliciously. Which Familia does this guy belong to? I've never seen this group before.

Are they idiots? Don't they know that if they injure or kill me, they'll be punished?

"I challenged you? I didn't do anything like that. You must be mistaking me for someone else."

"Those eyes are unmistakable. And that black knife—I want it."

The men were clearly determined to go through with this.

"You know what will happen if you do something to me, right? You'll be punished."

"So what? We can break your arms or legs. We don't need to kill you."

"That's basically the same as killing me." I gave a bitter smile. "Seriously, I didn't challenge you or anything. I just came to explore the dungeon. I've never looked for trouble with anyone."

I tried talking to them, trying to make them change their minds, but it didn't work. These idiots are mentally sick.

The man holding the sword began approaching me while licking his lips. The others also seemed to be enjoying this.

I understand what's happening here. These guys want to cause trouble and hurt or kill me. They're having fun doing it. My clone probably didn't do anything serious.

I hate this kind of person.

Do I really have to fight these guys? I don't even know how strong they are.

I tightened my grip on my knife and looked coldly at the man.

"If I were you, I wouldn't come any closer," I said.

"What's wrong? Decided to fight? I thought you'd run again like a scared animal. Hahaha." The man laughed and pointed his sword at me. "I like it when my prey is afraid."

His eyes were those of a maniac.

Why is someone like this an adventurer?

I really need to find out which Familia they belong to, but they definitely won't tell me if I ask.

"Don't say I didn't warn you."

Since my skill "Knife Combat" leveled up again, it's now at level 7. I'm probably on par with a high-level adventurer at the moment.

I can move my body, attack, and block perfectly.

If I focus, I don't think I'll lose to this guy.

Besides, I only need to cut him once for the poison to take effect.

Which means… It's impossible to fight them without killing them using this knife.

There's no other alternative. If I don't use my knife, I'll die. If these guys are nothing but insane idiots, no one will miss them, right? But am I really prepared to kill someone?

Killing monsters is easy, but they're human…

Oops!

While I was thinking about unnecessary things, the man suddenly closed the distance and swung his sword. I jumped back and created space between us. I can easily follow his movements. It's fine.

I exhaled and looked at him seriously.

I raised my knife and held it at face level.

I took a fighting stance.

"Your battle stance is so cute. This is fun." The man rushed at me and began swinging his sword at high speed. I blocked every single strike expertly without moving from my spot.

Our weapons clashed, producing sparks.

Growing impatient, the man increased the speed of his attacks.

At the same time, the others began to move as well.

The archer raised his bow and fired an arrow at me. As if their minds were connected, the man attacking me sensed the arrow and stepped aside. The arrow flew straight toward my forehead.

I leaned my body backward and avoided it. Then I performed a backflip.

That was something I had never been able to do before, but this time it was easy.

Using the momentum from the flip, I tried to kick the group's leader, but he managed to dodge.

Without giving me time to recover my posture, he resumed his attacks.

If I only keep blocking, I'll end up dying.

Damn it… I can't stop thinking that if I hit them, they'll really die.

I didn't want to do this. My mind will probably take a long time to recover from it, but whatever.

Tsk!

I clicked my tongue, and this time, I attacked.

POV: Archer

The moment I shot my arrow and Philip dodged, I could already see our victory. Honestly, I don't even know why Philip felt so offended just because that guy looked at him. But who cares?

It's better to follow his orders than get killed.

That guy is completely insane.

But contrary to what I expected, the arrow didn't hit him.

He did a backflip and avoided it skillfully.

Then he finally decided to make his move. Before, he had only been blocking, acting very cautiously. I knew something felt off. My instincts never lie—this guy is stronger than we thought.

Philip messed with the wrong person.

When the man swung his black knife, Philip seemed confident he would dodge, but the man moved faster than Philip expected.

Fortunately, the blade only cut Philip's arm.

I thought it was fine, but suddenly—

"Urgh… Urghhh… What is this?" Philip dropped his sword and began groaning in pain.

I looked at the man, and his golden eyes were glowing.
