Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Hai Flash and the Hai Shi no Jutsu

"So, about this auxiliary Ninjutsu... Ino, have you thought of a name for it?" Inoichi Yamanaka tried his best to sound "casual." In front of his daughter, he always had to maintain the image of an unflappable and reliable father.

Ino said, "But it hasn't been verified yet. Shouldn't we wait until after verification to name it?"

Inoichi Yamanaka smiled and said, "That's not necessary. After hearing the principles of this Ninjutsu, I feel it's achievable—let's name it first. Having a good name makes it easier to refer to." What truly gave Inoichi Yamanaka "confidence," however, was that other Ninjutsu she had creatively invented using only the two hand signs of the Clone Jutsu... Similarly, it hadn't had a chance to be named yet. "Also, that Ninjutsu from earlier, what do you plan to call it?"

"Hmm, that one from before. Why don't we call it... Hai Flash."

A thought struck Ino's mind, and she thought of the word "Helium Flash"—the Little Broken Earth had no choice but to choose wandering because of those two words.

Replacing "Helium" with "Hai" was a coincidence that felt inexplicably profound.

"Hai Flash..."

Inoichi Yamanaka savored the two words, his hand unconsciously stroking his chin. The two short, powerful words seemed to carry an indescribable sharpness.

Hai—represented the Yamanaka Clan.

Shan—represented the flash of the Yamanaka Clan.

Ino said, "Hai Flash... besides white light and black light, it actually has many magical uses that everyone can slowly explore later. For example, splitting the light into seven colors, making the color blocks more vivid, and then dispersing them—vibrant colors are far better than simple white or black." Ino stopped there and asked Inoichi Yamanaka, "Dad, do you understand the logic?"

"Hmm..." Inoichi Yamanaka gave a subconscious "Hmm," which immediately turned into a confused "Ah," "Ah?"

"People are always distracted by conspicuous things!"

Ino gave Inoichi Yamanaka a hint.

Inoichi Yamanaka nodded with a smile. He hadn't understood just now, but with a momentary reminder, he got it.

But "fatherly dignity" had to be maintained, so he pretended he had already understood instead of only getting it after the hint. He deliberately acted as if he didn't understand to ask Ino, "Hmm, Dad doesn't quite understand. Ino, can you explain it to me?"

"Dad, you're so silly. This is the deception I mentioned earlier... People's attention is always easily drawn to tangible things, thereby ignoring the intangible. This is human instinct!"

"Yes, right, right..."

"Human reason can gain a correct understanding after thinking and see through deception and disguise, but that takes time."

"Hahaha... Ino is so amazing, Dad understands now. Hmm, this Hai Flash is very good; there's a lot of room for development in the future!" Inoichi Yamanaka pulled Ino into his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head and gently rocking back and forth. "So, what about that Ninjutsu that assists the clan's Secret Technique? What should it be called?"

After asking, Inoichi Yamanaka had Mrs. Yamanaka fetch another blank scroll and a brush, and he recorded the name "Hai Flash" on the blank scroll.

After writing the "Name," he recorded the "Signs" and "Explanation" sections. The Signs recorded the hand sign methods, while the Explanation recorded more minute "details"—to what extent the Chakra should overflow, what kind of change it should undergo, what level of repulsion was needed... Every key point was clearly written down.

A fresh Ninjutsu scroll, fit to be passed down through generations, was thus born. Watching Inoichi Yamanaka's practiced writing and the fluidity of his diagrams, Ino came to a conclusion:

One look and you could tell he had done plenty of copying as a kid.

Sealing away that scroll,

Inoichi Yamanaka began writing the auxiliary Ninjutsu for the clan's Secret Technique. Since the name hadn't been decided yet, he simply left the name blank.

He went straight to writing the "Signs" and "Explanation" parts.

The volume of this Ninjutsu was much larger than "Hai Flash," with thirty times more diagrams and seven times the amount of text.

By the time he finished writing, Ino had also thought of a name.

"Dad, I've thought of it. Since this auxiliary Ninjutsu starts with the Hai sign, let's call it the Hai Shi no Jutsu."

"The Hai Shi no Jutsu?" Inoichi Yamanaka used the brush to write "Hai Shi no Jutsu" in the name column, then asked Mrs. Yamanaka to place the two Ninjutsu scrolls in the study. "Just leave them on the desk. I'm calling a clan meeting tomorrow—I'll need them then, so don't put them anywhere else."

"A clan meeting?"

Mrs. Yamanaka was bewildered.

"A clan meeting?" Ino looked up, rolling her eyes toward Inoichi Yamanaka.

Inoichi Yamanaka said, "There are some matters that need to be discussed... they concern Ino's growth."

"If the meeting goes well, Ino will be able to freely utilize all kinds of Ninjutsu resources and collections within the clan... These are very precious things. I believe our Ino is a great genius—because of this, if she cannot get the resources she deserves when she needs them, wouldn't I be quite a failure as a father?"

Even though he was the Clan Head, it wasn't easy to shift resources toward a child like Ino, who was only four years old.

For a clan, the Clan Head cannot simply do as they please; they must always consider objective facts.

"But... if you do that, can Ino still have a happy childhood? You also said you wanted to..."

... "Nobuko, it's not like that. Ino... I will respect her and let her choose her own path—it's just that I want to be able to provide for her when she needs it. If she doesn't want to do something, we won't force her unless it's absolutely necessary..."

Regarding the "clan meeting," Inoichi Yamanaka mentioned it to the clansmen he worked with after arriving at the Intelligence Division the next day.

The Yamanaka Clan was a relatively small clan, totaling about a hundred people, and a third of them were in the Intelligence Division.

The remaining clansmen were scattered across various clerical positions, holding pivotal roles within Konoha's administrative departments.

From the towering canopy to the roots buried deep underground—the Yamanaka Clan was present at every joint. They were like the connective tissue that linked the joints, connecting the various parts of Konoha and lubricating the entire institutional system.

The other clan that played an important lubricating role and coordinated the limbs was the Nara Clan.

These two clans.

They were not like the skeleton, which allows one to see its height and sturdiness at a glance, nor like the muscle, which lets one know of its great power immediately.

But if one day Konoha were to lose its Boar and Deer, Konoha would eventually understand the price of losing its connective tissue and nerves.
