Chapter 19 - Chapter 18

Rushina remained crouched down on next to the door until the sun fell and darkness fell. Her eyes sunken depth of despair, dark, still, and empty. Her breath trembled with each exhaled. Her eye lids had long run dry from the many tears that made their way down her eyes.

She didn't bathed, eat, or even sleep.

She just stayed in the spot because she didn't want to move.

She didn't want to reminded that in world where a breath taken within a second ten miles could ran, she was stuck moving agonizingly slow step at a time.

*Buzz*

*Buzz*

Her new limiter lit up.

She raised her head to see it was call from Zoomie, probably to make sure she was alright.

She didn't even bother responding to it and just turned off her limiter before sinking her head back low.

Seconds, minutes, hours, she could count flow of time as she past. Stale and stiff with each breath taking within a second feeling like an eternity she was stuck in. But still she remained there, motionless and still with time passing like grain in an hour glass, bit by bit.

Soon the sun rose again and the sounds of steps racing out their homes and on to the streets could be heard.

Rushina heard never craved silence more than she did as that moment. The sounds of their rapid footsteps feeling like daggers being plunged over and over into her heart.

She crush teeth and buried her head lower down. The few bits and drops of tears that remained in her eyes fell.

*knock*

*knock*

She heard her door but still refused to get up.

"Hey Rush," a familiar and gentle voice spoke from outside but Rushina gaze no reply.

"I…" her words hung in the air for a moment.

Rushina could hear her breath as she struggled to find the words.

"I brought so food," she finally managed to say.

"It's not much. A little kokali bean soup and boiled runikan beats," she spoke and Rusina could tell that she had her signature forced smile on her face.

She heard the clatter of the plate as Rushina placed it on the floor.

A brief moment of silence followed after that and for a moment it was as though Zoomie had left but then…

"You don't need to worry about work," Zoomie spoke softly with a low tone. "I'll handle you shifts. Just…"

She could hear what sounded like fall tears and for moment her eyes shifted from the abyss below.

"Promise me you'll try to get through this," Her voice trembled as she spoke. "It's just a month. You can survive with speed on until then,"

She heard the sound of Zoomie's palm resting on her door. The thud of her head leaning against it as well along with the dripping tears.

"Please Rushina, just learn to take things slow until then," she begged.

Rushina hearing her words felt a tug in heart, and suddenly her hollow empty eyes lit up slightly.

She heard Zoomie take a final breath before turning away and racing off.

Hearing her leave, Rushina's eyes feel back down.

"Learn to take things slow,"

*sigh*

A heavy huff left her lips.

How can anyone in Kinerik ever do that?

Speed were there life.

Motion their breath.

And without them, there was no life. Not for anyone on Kinerikan.
