A crisp breeze swept across the Viserys Hills, and the black-and-red three-headed dragon banner snapped defiantly in the wind. Since the night of the bandit raid, the pace of construction at Viserysgrad had reached a fever pitch.

"We are still short on gold," Viserys remarked, standing on a finished section of the ramparts. The transition from a wandering exile to a landed lord was expensive. Feeding hundreds of mouths, paying for Tyroshi steel, and maintaining the loyalty of the newly surrendered Andals required a deeper treasury than his current Braavosi loans provided.

The Anatomy of Viserysgrad

The fortress was evolving into a sophisticated defensive complex. Taking inspiration from the ancient, multi-layered defenses of Winterfell, Viserys was implementing a concentric design to compensate for the hill's natural slopes.

The Inner Wall: Built from grey-brown river stone, earth, and gravel. It featured integrated guard towers, lookout slits, and "murder holes" above the gates for dropping stones or boiling oil.

The Outer Wall: Foundations were being laid in a wide circle around the inner perimeter, creating a "killing zone" or bailey between the two layers.

The Palisades: Sharp wooden stakes made of seasoned logs formed the outermost ring of defense, intended to break the momentum of a Dothraki charge.

The Great Stair: A formal stone staircase was being carved into the hillside to allow for the rapid movement of his own troops.

Forging the Iron Will

On a temporary drill ground outside the rising walls, Viserys and Ser Roland Lake were engaged in a brutal demonstration for the new recruits. Clad in grey leather, Viserys moved with the fluid, overlapping rhythm he had learned from watching the waves of the Shivering Sea.

His blunt training sword was a blur. He spun, feinted, and shifted hands with a speed that left Roland's oak shield splintering under the assault.

"Crunch! Crunch!"

The shield finally gave way. Roland was forced into a corner, and with a final, powerful strike that mimicked a crashing tide, Viserys sent the knight's sword clattering across the dirt.

"I lost! I lost!" Roland gasped, waving a hand in surrender as he nursed his aching arms. "Clashing with you is like fighting the ocean itself."

"Warrior Westeros!" the soldiers cheered, their voices a mix of Braavosi-accented Common Tongue and local Andal dialects.

Viserys wiped the sweat from his brow. "Your turn. Sword and shield are the bedrock of a warrior's life. Begin!"

The Three Centurion Units

Under Viserys's new military structure, the army was reorganized into Centurion Units (units of approximately 100 men).

Military Unit Composition

1st Centurion

Unit Type: Veterans & Exiles

Origin: Braavos and Westeros

Role: Heavy Infantry and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs).

2nd Centurion

Unit Type: Andal Conscripts

Origin: Velvet Hills

Role: Light Infantry and Skirmishers.

3rd Centurion

Unit Type: Andal Conscripts

Origin: Velvet Hills

Role: Manual Labor and Auxiliary Defense.

"Of the 470 who besieged us, we have 180 combat-ready Andals left," Ser Roland reported. "They are tall and sturdy, but they aren't the knights who conquered the Vale. Their armor is rusted scrap, and their discipline is non-existent."

Viserys watched the Andals clumsily attempting their formations. They were a people who had forgotten the very arts they were famous for: iron-forging and heavy knightly warfare. After the Great Migration to Westeros, those left behind had sunk into a dark age of tribalism.

"The beginning is the hardest part," Viserys said. "They have the faith; they just need the fire. We aren't just giving them shields; we are giving them back their civilization."

He looked at the young boys and the weary exiles. This was a "rag-tag" army—the downtrodden, the forgotten, and the desperate. But as they shouted "In the name of the Warrior!" into the fading light, Viserys saw the first sparks of a force that could one day cross the Narrow Sea.
