Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – The Sleeping God Within

Night in the lower sector was never truly silent.

Wind moved through broken buildings like a whispering ghost. Loose metal sheets clanged softly. Somewhere in the distance, creatures howled beyond the protective border of the human domain.

But inside the small, crumbling house where Leo lived…

Everything was still.

Too still.

Leo lay awake, staring at the ceiling through half-open eyes.

He was ten years old now.

Old enough to understand the world.

Old enough to understand he had no place in it.

The Boy Without a Rank

Earlier that day, the Awakening Inspection Team had visited the lower district.

Once every year, children who reached the age of ten were tested for mana circulation and potential resonance.

It was humanity's way of surviving.

If power existed in your body, the device would glow.

If your soul carried potential, it would react.

If destiny marked you… it would show.

Leo had stepped forward quietly when his name was called.

He placed his hand on the crystal sphere.

For a moment—

Nothing happened.

The inspectors exchanged glances.

Then the sphere flickered faintly… before returning to clear transparency.

One of the men shook his head.

"No mana signature."

"No martial circulation."

"No blessing."

"Non-Awakened."

The words fell casually.

But to Leo's mother, they sounded like a death sentence.

A Weak Body, A Heavy Secret

That night, Leo sat alone outside the house.

He could hear his parents whispering inside.

"…what will he do?"

"He can't join the academy."

"He won't survive outside the domain…"

Leo closed his eyes.

Non-Awakened.

If only they knew.

Deep inside his chest, beyond flesh and blood, something pulsed.

Slow.

Massive.

Ancient.

The Divine Blood that had entered him at death had not vanished.

It had reshaped him.

But it was sealed.

Sealed not by weakness—

But by purpose.

If released too early, this fragile world would shatter.

If forced open, his human body would collapse.

So it waited.

The First Crack

Wind shifted.

A strange sensation brushed against Leo's awareness.

Cold.

Predatory.

His eyes opened instantly.

From the shadows near the edge of the district wall, a thin creature crawled over the barrier.

A low-tier monster.

Night scavenger class.

It resembled a warped human figure with too many joints and no visible face.

Normally, such creatures avoided fortified zones.

But tonight, something drew it inward.

Toward Leo.

The monster paused mid-step.

Its invisible gaze fixed on him.

Then—

It trembled.

Leo didn't move.

He didn't stand.

He didn't attack.

But inside him, the sleeping god turned slightly.

The air around him thickened.

The ground beneath him cracked faintly.

For a single heartbeat—

The world seemed to bow.

The monster let out a distorted screech.

And collapsed.

Dead.

No wound.

No strike.

Just erased.

Silence

Leo blinked.

The pressure inside him faded back into calm stillness.

The ground repaired itself.

The air normalized.

The night resumed.

No one inside the district noticed.

No alarm triggered.

The creature's body dissolved into gray dust.

Leo exhaled slowly.

"I didn't… do that," he whispered.

But he knew the truth.

The sleeping god within him had reacted.

Instinctively.

Without permission.

A Glimpse Beyond Reality

As Leo stood up, a sudden wave of dizziness struck him.

The world distorted.

Colors reversed. Sound vanished.

For a fraction of a second—

He saw something else.

Not the poor district.

Not Earth.

But a vast cosmic ocean filled with collapsing stars.

A colossal presence rested at its center.

Not fully formed.

Not fully awake.

Its shape was impossible to describe—something between light and void, between creation and destruction.

And at its core…

A drop of blood burned like a universe.

The presence spoke—not in words, but in realization.

You are not ready.

Leo fell to one knee.

The vision vanished instantly.

His heart pounded violently—but his body remained intact.

The seal had not broken.

Only cracked.

The Mark of the Hidden One

The next morning, rumors spread quietly among patrol guards.

A monster corpse had been found near the lower district wall—completely dissolved.

Not even mana residue remained.

"That's impossible."

"No hunter cleared it."

"No barrier activated."

Something had killed it.

Cleanly.

Effortlessly.

Without leaving a trace.

Far above the district, inside the main control tower of the human domain, a woman with silver eyes studied the report.

She closed her eyes slowly.

"…Interesting."

Unlike others, she didn't feel relief.

She felt disturbance.

The balance of power in the region had shifted subtly last night.

Not outwardly.

But spiritually.

Something had exhaled.

The Weight of Restraint

Leo sat in class that afternoon, staring blankly at the board.

Children whispered around him.

"Monster attack last night."

"They say an Elite Rank hunter cleared it."

"I heard a Lord Rank passed through secretly."

Leo said nothing.

He could still feel the crack inside him.

Not dangerous.

Not unstable.

Just present.

He realized something important.

He was not powerless.

He was sealed.

And that seal… was thinning.

The Path Forward

That evening, as he returned home, Leo clenched his fists.

If he simply relied on the sleeping god, one day it would awaken uncontrollably.

That could destroy everything—including his parents.

No.

He had learned from his past life.

Power without control led to catastrophe.

So this time—

He would build his foundation as a human first.

Strengthen his body.

Train his mind.

Understand this world.

Then, when the god awakened…

It would not be a disaster.

It would be dominion.

Leo looked up at the broken sky.

A faint red streak stretched across the horizon—a distant sign of a Supreme Being moving in its territory.

"One day," Leo murmured quietly,

"I will stand above all of you."

Not in arrogance.

Not in revenge.

But as inevitability.

Deep inside him—

The sleeping god smiled.

And for the first time…

It approved.
