Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Frightening Truth

The sound of something breaking echoed heavily in night's head.

And in the next moment fear crept onto his face.

His hands were trembling, as he managed to make words out in his head.

‡ H.ow..did you...

Night stopped midway, as he felt something inside of him boil, without even realising it, his voice turned utterly cold.

No. I'm not joining you.

I stood up, and managed to grab most of my things, before heading towards the door.

He thought he was prepared for anything, but, he was utterly wrong. Along the way, he imbued shadows into the sword as stealthy as he could. Grabbed the door's handle and was about to leave, unto, she spoke again.

What do you think about this place.

Night stopped, his hands were shaking again, he held his breath unconsciously.

Do you think it's real, or just an illusion the Scape created to kill all of us.

Night let go of the door and turned around. His face was emotionless, yet his hands were slightly shaky. .

The long sword shifted before assuming it's former form.

Then, he twisted the situation around.

What about you....

Do you think all of this is just an illusion.

The life, the colour and hope.

Do you think it's just a trick, or something as horrible as an illusion.

She said nothing, and simply smiled. Night walked out, hoping he would never cross paths with her again.

---

Leaving her estate took some time. It was then I realised that I was in the outer zone. Which meant, the walls of the city was not so far away.

Then, what would be behind them.

Night had to deal with the thoughts in his head fast. The sun was up which meant it was already morning. In the end, night ordered his shadow something before rushing back to the central zone.

By the time he arrived at the door to his house. He was drenched in sweat and the sun was high in the sky. Night felt puzzled on what to say after leaving home all night. Still, he tried to open the door.

His head ached as he remembered what happened. He doubted it, but, what if they were right, what if everything here was nothing but an illusion.

Would that mean that all the kindness and warmth he'd felt were fake.

Then, wouldn't it be best to leave. Before I fell deeper into this lie. Night slowly backed away from the door. He was about to leave until the door flew open.

Mia lunged onto me, clinging tightly and even crying. She looked terrified, her eyes were puffy and tears flowers down heavily.

‡ Bro.the.r where were you.

She said with her voice cracking in between.

She clinged to me desparately. Not loosening her grip in the slightest. My mother walked out of the kitchen, carrying some plates, but the moment she says me. She dropped all of it and ran to me .

She grabbed me tightly like as if I would run away. I felt her warm hands caress my hair. I felt like crying. .

‡ Mum, I'm home.

Her face was a complete mess, yet she smiled, not asking me anything.

I thought how could this be fake.

Seeing her like this, a lot of doubts formed in my head, but it was all useless as I asked.

Where...where is dad.

Although I couldn't see it, her face turned pale, she slowly raises up her head, changing her expression as she said.

‡ He had to go back. Something urgent came up, but he'll be back soon.

She wiped her tears and grabbed my left hand as she walked inside, Mia held my right hand, not even thinking of letting go.

I felt weird, not because of the environment but because somehow there were runes in front of me.

It wasn't hard, but I could faintly feel a wave of dread wash over me.

---

After eating and a lot of excuses I was finally allowed to go to my room. I sat down on the bed, feeling the soft fabric after a long time. I sat down and closed my eyes.

Looking from the senses of my shadow, I found myself in awe as I looked from the top of the wall.

Before leaving the outer regions, I ordered my shadow to climb the walls.

Looking into the distance, it felt like I could do anything.

It felt beautiful at first before dread filled me. Before these walls was something which looked like barracks filled with an endless swarm of soldiers.

Each and every one of them were armed in chronicles of nothing less than awakened rank.

And a few meters away from them was another wall, not as sturdy as the walls of the city but, enough to stand against whatever it was built for.

But that wasn't what scared me most, it was the fact that the air was so filled with corrupted aen that it felt like I would die if I stepped foot there.

My shadow stuck to the wall before sliding down at a fast rate.

Sneaking through the crowds, I hid several times before I finally passed through the barracks. I walked through the shadows, and got to the wall.

Slipping through it was easy, but I did not expect what was beneath them.

An endless desert.

The moment I stepped foot there, I felt my breath seize. My real hands trembled as something stood before me, appearing out of nothing. I couldn't see it, couldn't smell or even heat it. But I could feel it.

My connection with my shadow cut as I opened my real eyes.

Blood dripping from my nose. I couldn't help but feel fear engulfed me whole.

Somehow, everywhere looked darker, like how's had passed.. I looked down, my shadow was already back.

I looked at it, it stiffed up like it was terrified as me. I looked out my window, it was big enough.

I jumped through and Stealthy got down. It was already dusk, still the streets were still bustling.

I ran first, until i paused.

What was I supposed to do. If what I felt was right, then all those soldiers would die.

The best choice was going there and warning everyone. At Least they would be aware. But....

How would they believe me..even if I went there, there was no way they would trust my information.

And even if they were to trust me, it would be useless. No one....

No awakened or even a master could deal with that thing.

How could i...a marked seeker deal with something of that calibre.

It....

It was..... IMPOSSIBLE

There was no way to survive...

We are all going to Die.

Night was about to fall to the ground when a cold aura flooded his senses.

Someone walked past him, and his heart stopped .

The person stopped the moment he noticed my presence.

I turned and looked at him and him at me. That appearance was something I could never forget. That black hair, that frosty ocean blue eyes. He looked like a perfect figure created from pure fantasy....looks anyone who envy.

And the aura around him was something only a protagonist from a novel would possess.

His cold eyes fell on me.

And I said in a tone cold as if I was casting a curse.

"Kang.....ri-on"
