Lilith
That evening, I reclined upon the chaise near the tall arched window of the Alpha's private sitting room with one leg crossed over the other and a goblet of dark wine resting loosely in my hand.
Spread across the table before me lay the marriage proposals that the Elders had so enthusiastically gathered. I broke the next seal with idle precision and skimmed the first letter with detached amusement.
Alpha Lilith, Radiant Sovereign of the West End…
I did not bother reading further. I flicked my wrist, and the parchment sailed gracefully into the hearth. Flames caught and devoured it eagerly.
Nala and Tala stood a short distance away, watching me with what could only be described as relief. I opened another letter and skimmed it lazily. With each letter was another self-important male declaring how his lineage would "fortify my reign."
None of them was suitable or useful to me in any way. Plus, I had no intention of binding myself to anyone out of tradition or pressure.
