Ava's Pov
I didn't sleep properly.
Not because I was trying to think about anything, but because my head wouldn't stay on one thing long enough to rest. Every time I closed my eyes, something else came up. Leon, that call, Lucas, my mum, everything just shifting around without settling.
By the time I checked the time, it was already morning.
I stayed in bed for a few seconds, then reached for my phone.
Nothing new.
I locked it again and sat up.
There wasn't any point lying there.
I got dressed and stepped out, heading straight to my mum's room. Her door was open. She was already awake, sitting up slightly with the TV on low.
Amanda was there too, sitting on the edge of the bed like she had been talking for a while.
"You're up early," Amanda said when she saw me.
"So are you."
"I couldn't sleep."
"Same."
My mum looked between both of us.
"Both of you look like you fought someone in your dreams."
"We didn't," I said. "We just didn't sleep."
