Chapter 38 - Devotion and Tranquility

The days in the palace of Calorina moved slowly, draped in a newfound peace. Ethan's body remained frail after waking from the coma, but his spirit was being nourished by Arya's unwavering love.

Soft sunlight filtered through the infirmary windows. Arya had barely left Ethan's side for days. She personally fed him broth, adjusted his pillows, and read him stories from the books they had shared in their childhood.

Whenever Ethan winced in pain, Arya would squeeze his hand. One afternoon, as he watched her carefully change his bandages, his eyes welled with tears. "Arya, you don't have to do this. The handmaidens can handle it," he whispered weakly.

Arya smiled, wiping the sweat from his brow. "The handmaidens fulfill a duty, Ethan. I am fulfilling my love. Seeing you heal is the only purpose I have now." Ethan kissed her hand in silence, and in that fleeting moment, years of bitterness and misunderstanding finally dissolved.

Meanwhile, Sofia and Cable sought refuge in a secluded part of the garden, amidst a sea of white roses. Sofia felt no urge to hunt; the time spent with Cable provided her with a different, more powerful kind of sustenance.

They sat beneath an ancient oak tree. Cable rested his head in Sofia's lap, while she ran her cool fingers through his dark hair.

"Sofia," Cable said, his eyes closed in contentment, "I never imagined that as a Prince, I could find such peace. Your presence is the greatest victory of my life."

Sofia leaned down and kissed his cheek. "And you are the dawn to a night I spent centuries waiting for. Cable, do you never fear? That one day I will remain the same, while you..."

Cable opened his eyes and caught her hand. "No. Because love is not bound by time.

Whether it is for a moment or a century, I choose to live every second with you."

Sofia's eyes sparkled. She pulled him to his feet, and they began a slow, rhythmic dance beneath the emerging stars. There were no crowns, no royal burdens—just two souls lost in one another.

As the evening chill set in, Sofia and Cable decided to visit Ethan's chamber. They brought with them fresh fruits from the palace garden and a handful of warm memories.

The scene inside the room was heartening. Arya was gazing at Ethan with a soft, lingering smile. As Sofia and Cable entered, the entire energy of the room shifted into something lighter and more joyful.

Ethan tried to sit up, but Cable immediately stepped forward, placing a steady hand on his shoulder. "Rest easy, friend. You need to save your strength for now," Cable said with the authority and warmth of an older brother.

There was deep respect in Ethan's eyes. "Your Majesty, your presence here is an honor I didn't expect."

Cable let out a hearty laugh. "In this room, we are not kings or soldiers, Ethan. We are simply four friends." He glanced at Sofia, who had already taken Arya's hand in hers.

Sofia beamed, "Arya, Cable and I have decided that when you two wed, we will send the finest musicians and chefs from Eldrida. It shall be the most magnificent wedding Calorina has ever seen!"

Arya's eyes sparkled. "Sofia, you always look out for me. Seeing you and Cable together made me believe that true love isn't just a fairy tale."

The four of them talked for hours. Cable shared tales from the battlefield, while Ethan recounted ancient legends of Calorina. Amidst the laughter and banter, Ethan felt, for the first time, that he was no longer an outsider. He was part of a circle where he was accepted not for his past mistakes, but for the man he was becoming.

During dinner, Arya teased, "Sofia, I fear once Ethan is fully recovered, he'll spend all his time hunting with Cable and leave me all alone!"

Cable winked at Ethan, "Don't worry, Arya. I promise to send him back to you in one piece."

The room erupted in laughter. That night, Ethan's wounds were being healed not just by medicine, but by the profound friendship and sense of belonging that Sofia, Cable, and Arya offered him.

For the next few days, the palace of Calorina became a sanctuary of laughter, joy, and deep conversation. Ethan had begun walking with support, and the bond between the four had transformed into an unbreakable kinship.

"Growing Love and Friendship"

One evening, the four sat on the palace's high balcony. Cable and Ethan discussed future strategies and the security of the realm, while Sofia and Arya shared their personal dreams and secrets. Cable presented Ethan with a special sword, a symbol of their growing friendship. Arya, looking at Sofia, said, "Sofia, you are not just my sister; you have become my guide."

In these moments, there were no kings, no vampires—just four hearts understanding each other's rhythm.

"The Royal Farewell"

Finally, the day arrived when Sofia and Cable had to return to Eldrida. At the main gates of the palace, strict royal etiquette was observed. A red carpet was laid out, and soldiers stood in formation to pay their respects.

Representatives of King Julian and Queen Ava were also present. Arya and Ethan, dressed in full royal regalia, stepped forward to greet Sofia and Cable.

Upholding royal decorum, Ethan bowed and placed his hand over Cable's, "Your Majesty, Calorina will always remember your generosity and friendship. I shall forever be in your debt for saving my life."

Cable placed a hand on Ethan's shoulder with regal dignity, "Debt has no place in friendship, Ethan. Just take care of yourself and keep Arya happy always."

Arya performed a deep royal curtsy before Sofia, then emotionally embraced her. "Sofia, your absence will be felt here every moment. I can never repay what you have done for Ethan and me."

Sofia kissed Arya's forehead and whispered, "Send your wedding invitation soon; I will be waiting."

In the end, Cable took Sofia's hand and led her toward the royal carriage. As they boarded, both turned back to wave. As the carriage wheels moved forward, the soldiers of Calorina raised their swords in a final salute. Arya and Ethan stood there until the carriage vanished into the distant horizon.

"Homecoming in Eldrida"

The royal carriage wheels stopped smoothly on the cobblestone streets of the Eldrida Palace courtyard. Servants and guards rushed to greet their returning prince and his wife, torches casting a flickering golden light across the stone.

The Royal Herald's voice echoed loudly:

"His Highness Prince Cable and Princess Sofia—returned to Eldrida Palace!"

Sofia smiled graciously, her ethereal beauty dazzling in the torchlight as Prince Cable offered his arm. Together, they walked into the palace, entering the grand hall filled with nobles and dignitaries.

Prince Cable's father, King Julian, descended from his throne, embracing his son warmly. "Welcome back, Cable. Your mother and I were worried about your journey to Calorina."

The King's eyes then turned to Sofia with deep affection— "And our beloved daughter-in-law—did you enjoy your stay in Calorina?"

As they sat together later, explaining the dire situation of Ethan and his miraculous recovery, the King and Queen exchanged surprised glances.

The King spoke thoughtfully, "Sofia, dear, you've always had a generous heart... but what compelled you to take such a secret and decisive action?"

The Queen added with motherly concern, "Is Ethan fully recovered, Sofia, or will he need further care?"

Sofia's expression was serene as she replied, "Yes, he is absolutely fine. Arya remains with him in Calorina to care for him during his convalescence."

The King nodded, relief evident on his face. "We are grateful for your kindness, Sofia. This could have ended in a terrible tragedy for Arya and our court—you have spared us that grief."

Queen Ava added warmly, "Sofia, dear, you've once again proven your heart truly belongs to this family. We are blessed to have you as our daughter-in-law."

Prince Cable smiled, pulling Sofia into a warm embrace. The halls of Eldrida felt bright again, filled with the joy of a safe return and a family mended.
