Chapter 29 - A Love Worth Saving

Cable's tears had barely dried when he pulled back slightly to gaze intensely into Sofia's eyes:

"Sofia, from the moment I met you, I knew you were different – in the best possible way." His voice was thick with conviction: "I don't care about the nature of the blood that runs through your veins. You are still the girl who smiled at me in the palace gardens. You are still the one I fell deeply in love with."

Cable's hands cradled Sofia's face with a tenderness that made her heart ache. "I accept everything about you – your vampire instincts and all. I want to face whatever dangers come our way – together."

Sofia's eyes welled up with tears again as she whispered, searching his soul: "Do you truly mean this, Cable?"

Cable's nod was immediate, his eyes burning with a fierce devotion. Sofia's face tilted upwards, and she pressed her lips to his in a passionate, desperate kiss. The jungle around them melted away into a blur as they poured every ounce of their shared pain and love into that single moment.

Cable's hands wrapped tighter around Sofia's waist, pulling her flush against him. As the kiss deepened, her fangs gently grazed his lips – a sharp, thrilling reminder of her true nature.

Cable felt a sudden shiver run through his spine, but instead of recoiling in fear, he leaned in further. He accepted the sting as a mark of her trust, a symbol that he was willing to bleed for her if necessary. He didn't pull away; he held her as if she were the only anchor in his world.

Sofia broke the kiss just long enough to whisper: "I love you, Cable..."

His response was instant, his breath hitching against her skin: "I love you too, Sofia – forever."

They sealed their promise with another tender, yet fierce kiss. Hand in hand, Cable and Sofia walked back through the jungle, the agonizing tension between them now replaced with a sense of newfound promise.

Before they left the riverbank, Cable reached into his pocket and pulled out the delicate golden necklace – the same one he had given her before, his mother's beloved heirloom. He gently fastened it around Sofia's neck, his fingers brushing against her skin:

"This belongs to you again – a symbol of my forever love for you."

Sofia's eyes welled up with tears as she touched the cold metal of the necklace, her voice barely above a whisper: "I was dying without it... without you."

Cable's lips brushed against hers in a soft kiss before they continued on their way. As they emerged from the foliage and saw the palace walls in the distance, Sofia turned to Cable:

"We need to talk about what happens next."

Cable nodded solemnly: "I know. Your secret... it stays with me."

Sofia's eyes locked onto his, filled with intense gratitude: "Thank you, Cable. Victor would kill anyone who knows the truth."

Cable's jaw clenched in determination: "No one will ever hear it from me. I swear."

Sofia's hand tightened around his: "And I swear to control my... nature around you. Always."

They shared a final gentle look before slipping back into the palace grounds, careful to avoid detection. They separated at the entrance hall, exchanging a fleeting glance before Sofia disappeared into the servant corridors.

Cable made his way to the main chambers, where he found Emily and Arya waiting for him in the library:

"Cable, thank goodness you're back!" Emily exclaimed. "We were worried sick."

Arya added curiously: "And we haven't seen Sofia all day – did you two have a fight or something?"

Cable forced a casual smile, though his pulse quickened: "No fight... I just needed some fresh air. Haven't seen Sofia since morning, actually."

It was a necessary lie, and Emily and Arya seemed to accept it. Then, Emily changed the subject:

"King Julian has summoned the courtiers for an announcement tonight – I wonder what it's about."

Cable's instincts prickled – could this announcement somehow relate to Sofia or the dark shadow of her past?

King Julian's eyes sparkled with curiosity as he turned to Sofia:

"Lady Sofia, tell me, what family do you hail from? Your father's name, if I may ask."

Sofia's heart raced, but her expression remained remarkably calm:

"I am an orphan, Your Majesty. I have no known family ties."

The courtiers murmured softly, surprised by her humble response. King Julian nodded thoughtfully:

"A humble beginning only adds to your charm, Lady Sofia. I decree that your union with my son, Cable, shall take place on the 5th of next month."

The throne room erupted into applause once again, while Cable's eyes met Sofia's – panic and desperation reflected back at him. Sofia's face was pale, her eyes wide with fear as she glanced around the room, feeling trapped by the sudden timeline.

King Julian smiled, satisfied with his decree:

"Let preparations for the royal wedding begin! The 5th of next month will be a glorious day for our kingdom."

The courtiers cheered again, while Sofia's gaze remained locked on Cable's, silently pleading for a rescue from the mounting pressure. The kingdom erupted into joyful chaos as preparations for Cable and Sofia's grand royal wedding officially began!

Servants scurried about, decorating the castle halls with fresh flowers and golden banners. The royal seamstresses worked tirelessly on Sofia's exquisite wedding gown – a masterpiece of lace, silk, and diamonds. The king's chefs planned a lavish feast featuring delicacies from every corner of the land.

Cable and Sofia attended wedding planning meetings together, their hands touching and eyes locking – to the world, they were clearly besotted, but beneath the surface, the weight of their secret loomed larger than ever.

King Julian beamed with pride, saying: "My son has never been happier. This union will bring our kingdom prosperity and joy."

The kingdom's streets erupted into joyful chaos as people celebrated Cable and Sofia's upcoming wedding! Minstrels played lively tunes on lutes and flutes, while villagers danced and cheered. Food stalls overflowed with sweet pastries, roasted meats, and freshly brewed ale – all free for the revelers, courtesy of King Julian. Children waved handmade banners reading "Long live Prince Cable and Lady Sofia!"

The atmosphere was electric with happiness. Sofia, watching from the castle balcony with Cable, felt her heart swell with emotion: "I've never felt such belonging," she whispered to Cable. Cable wrapped his arms around her: "You'll always belong with me."

Sofia's eyes sparkled with delight... but suddenly, her vision blurred slightly, and her senses heightened – the smell of food stalls turned to the overwhelming scent of blood. Her heart racing, Sofia felt her fangs tingling, threatening to descend.

Cable, oblivious to her internal struggle, held her closer: "You're trembling – are you cold?" Sofia forced a smile, her voice barely above a whisper: "N-no, just overwhelmed by happiness."

But internally, she panicked – her vampire nature was surfacing in the midst of joyful crowds, with Cable mere inches away.

Driven by an unbearable thirst, she slipped away into the deserted garden under the moonlight. She spotted a rabbit trembling beneath a bush and pounced, fangs bared.

The rabbit's lifeblood flowed into her mouth, temporarily satiating her craving. Just as she was swallowing the last drops, Sofia sensed a presence behind her.

She turned, rabbit blood still dripping from her lips, to face Cable.

His eyes locked onto hers, then dropped to her bloodstained mouth and chin. Yet, instead of horror or fear, Sofia saw only gentle concern in his expression.

Cable approached her slowly, reaching into his pocket for a soft cloth. He gently wiped the blood from her lips and chin, his touch incredibly tender: "You're still my Sofia," he whispered.

Sofia's heart shattered into a million pieces – how could he still love her after witnessing this monstrosity? Her voice trembled as she asked: "Cable, how... how can you still want to marry me after seeing this... this monster I am?"

Cable's eyes burned with fierce devotion as he replied: "Because in your eyes, I see the sunrise of a thousand mortal lives – and in your touch, the warmth of a heart that beats solely for me. You are not a creature of the night – you are the eternal flame that illuminates my soul."

His fingers traced the curve of her cheek, his voice filled with wonder: "I love you not despite your immortality, but because of the forever you've given me."

Cable's eyes brimmed with tears as he gently framed her face with his hands: "My love," he whispered, "I didn't fall in love with your heart alone – I fell in love with your darkness too."

His thumbs stroked away her tears: "Every shadow within you drew me closer to your light. Every flaw made your beauty more precious." Sofia's breath caught as Cable continued: "I swear to you, Sofia – I will love your fangs as dearly as your smile, your midnight thirst as passionately as your sunrise kisses."

His voice cracked with emotion: "You are not a monster to me – you are my eternal home. My heart beats for you alone, forever."

Sofia's vision blurred as tears overwhelmed her – no one had ever loved her so completely. She collapsed into Cable's embrace, sobbing softly as he held her close, whispering: "Forever, my Sofia. Forever."
