Chapter 16 - Mysterious Savior

Cable rode his horse toward the forest, deciding to investigate the vicinity of Blackstone Castle under the cover of night. He hoped to uncover clues about the Lady of Night. As he dismounted and led his horse into the thick brush, the darkness swallowed him whole. Moonlight barely filtered through the dense canopy above.

Cable drew his dagger, his senses heightened. Every rustle of leaves made him freeze. Suddenly, he felt a chilling sensation—he was being watched.

A pale face with sunken eyes glowed in the moonlight behind a tree.

Fangs bared in a deadly snarl.

Long fingers ending in razor-sharp claws.

The vampire burst from the shadows, tackling Cable to the forest floor. His dagger flew from his grasp. The creature pinned him down, its icy breath ghosting over his skin.

"You shouldn't have meddled in our night..." the monster hissed.

As death's shadow loomed, Cable's mind retreated to a safer place—a beloved memory. "Sofia..." he whispered, his voice barely audible. He closed his eyes, envisioning her bright smile and gentle touch. Memories of her laughter in the palace gardens flooded his mind, replacing terror with devotion. He felt a strange peace, Sofia's image etched forever in his soul.

Cable braced for the fatal bite, Sofia's name still a whisper on his lips. But then...

A violent rustling of leaves and the snapping of twigs erupted from the darkness. The vampire's weight vanished instantly. Cable felt himself being thrown backward, landing hard on the cold earth. He scrambled to open his eyes, but the pitch-black void obscured everything.

No moonlight penetrated the struggle.

No shadows hinted at the figures involved.

Only heavy breathing and muffled grunts echoed through the air.

The commotion lasted mere seconds—then, an eerie, absolute silence. Cable lay there, stunned and disoriented. What just happened? Who—or what—saved him? Was he truly still alive ?

Cable sat up slowly, rubbing his neck where the vampire's fangs had almost pierced his skin. He was utterly alone in the crushing darkness—no sign of the beast or any other soul. Confusion clouded his mind. Who had intervened ?

Meanwhile, in the shadows nearby...

The vampire that had attacked Cable was cowering, backing away into the void. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the blackness behind him. The vampire's eyes widened in sheer terror as the figure stepped forward: Sofia.

Her eyes gleamed with an intense, otherworldly light. Her voice was low, vibrating with a command that demanded obedience:

"As long as I am alive, no one can reach him in this world."

The vampire, seemingly driven by bloodlust or madness, disobeyed her warning and charged toward her with a feral snarl. Sofia stood firm, her eyes blazing. Her hands transformed into razor-sharp claws that shimmered in the faint moonlight.

The two supernatural beings clashed in a flurry of motion—growls, snarls, and the sound of slashing claws filled the forest. Sofia pinned the attacker against a massive oak tree. "You dare defy me?" she hissed.

The vampire spat back, "You are one of us... a creature of the night, immortal and powerful! Why do you wish to save a fragile, mortal human?"

Sofia's gaze burned with terrifying intensity. "Because he holds my heart. And I will destroy anyone who threatens him."

The vampire sneered, "Love for a mortal is weakness..."

Sofia's claws flashed like lightning, silencing his words and slicing through his throat with a swift, merciless motion.

She stood tall, her chest heaving as she ensured no other threats lurked in the brush. Then, she vanished, reappearing near Cable. From behind a thick veil of trees, she watched him. Her heart swelled with a mix of concern and affection. She had walked among vampires for centuries, but Cable had awakened feelings she thought had died an eternity ago.

As Cable finally mounted his horse and rode away, Sofia stepped out from the shadows just enough to see him disappear. A soft, whispered word escaped her lips:

"My love..."
