Chapter 4 - LIEUTENANT SHAUN PT.2

Our eyes widened in surprise, is that? My mind was processing faster than usual, As both me and Anya turned.

Our eyes bestowed upon a familiar face, it was Yoshi. While he was okay, he looked different. Yoshi's hair was messy and rough, he looked tired, and he wore a white cloak, in contrast to his original clothing. His expression also seemed more serious.

"What happened to you, Yoshi. .?" I said commenting on his appearance.

"Yoshi!" Anya shouted running towards him, hugging him tightly.

He laughed brightly, hugging her back, still harboring his same emotions.

I stood there frozen momentarily before hugging them both. "I thought we'd never see you again dude.."

"We'll never split apart, even if we're

cornered." He said smiling, he then looked towards Shaun reverting back to his expression earlier.

So this is Yoshi? He looks like a wreck. But I won't underestimate him. Inouye thought, analyzing him.

"Hey, what was your name again?" Yoshi asked, referring to the man standing behind us.

"Shaun, but just call me 'Lt' ." Shaun sighed smirking, slicking back his hair with his left hand.

I stepped back from Yoshi as did Anya, both of us looking towards Shaun. So that's his name huh. "Thanks for saving us." I said halfway bowing.

"Y-yeah, thanks. And sorry for yelling at you." Anya added bowing as well.

We stood, straightening ourselves. I smiled, clenching my hands.

"Yeah sure, anyways, tell me Yohan. Have you figured it out yet?" Shaun said, responding with a question.

"What do you mean..?" I answered.

"I told you before, and I'm sure Zhou did too. It's that power inside you." Shaun said, leaning back with a lowered gaze at me.

"Power.. inside me, I think I have an understanding. But I need a little more time." I felt chills, my bones 'vibrating' as I shuddered.

"No worries, I'll help you." Shaun said, stepping up to us.

"I have a question." I exclaimed, looking down afterwards in guilt.

 "Hm?" He rotated his head.

"What.. happened to Osaka..?" I asked, grunting nervously.

"It was partially destroyed, but we stopped those monsters before any more casualties." He stared forward, his voice deepened.

"Tch."Yoshi and I clenched our hands, in anger.

"Oh god.." Anya said, covering her mouth in shock.

Inouye turned his head, looking away from us as if he was expecting Shaun's response.

"What about our school, our families?" Yoshi asked, shouting as he stepped forward.

"Yoshi and Anya, your families are safe. Yohan, your mother hasn't been home since yesterday." He answered.

"What?! What do you mean? Is she okay?" I frantically asked, practically yelling.

"Don't worry, she'll be fine. She's strong, and we'll find her." Shaun reassured, sighing afterwards.

I can't wait any longer, I'll master this power and find my mom. I thought, clenching my hands. This was a self promise

"Please, help me learn to control this power, 'Lt' ." I lowered my voice, but kept my head up as I asked.

Shaun looked towards me with a smirk, "Yeah, don't disappoint me."

"I'll make all three of you strong." He added.

Anya smiled, breaking away from her temporary depression, she was determined to help me and grow stronger.

Yoshi lowered his head looking at his fists, there he emitted blue energy at his finger tips.

Woah, he's so adept already.. I have to catch up. I thought, looking up to the cloudy sky.

Inouye exhaled, turning his body towards the hallway, he raised his arm—

"Anyways goodluck, I've got a mission to complete." Inouye said, continuing his glare on Shaun before walking away, and waving us off.

Shaun noticed not thinking much of it.

 Tch.Must still be jealous.

He continued his glare towards us, "First, you have to know what Yon is."

Shaun emitted Yon on his fingertips, manipulating it steadily. "I'll explain it, Yon is life energy. It's what we use to enhance our spirit."

"Life energy?" The three of us said simultaneously.

"Right, you don't know. Think of it like this. Yon is a sentient battery which powers our soul or spirit. In this case, it isn't tangible in a normal sense but through it, it allows you to live. At least at a basic level."

"So what happens if you run out of Yon?" Yoshi asked, stroking his chin. His brain steamed thinking of results.

"I assume we restore it when we sleep or when in a resting state, since it's like a battery." Anya explained, brilliantly.

"Right, additionally you can also heal." Shaun said, holding his hand up like he was a professor teaching students.

"When you awaken, you're able to interact with your core, and those of others. Yon's sole purpose, simply put, is to keep you alive."

"That's so cool, then how do we learn Yon abilities?" Yoshi exclaimed.

An ability..? Just how complex is Yon. I thought, shocked by the multiple explanations given.

"An ability is developed by having its own defense mechanism, sort of like white blood cells to fight off bacteria." Shaun explained, stating how hard it is to develop an ability.

"What do you mean defense mechanism?" I asked.

"Like I said, it works similarly to the body when sick. Sending white blood cells to attack the bacteria. So Yon abilities inherently become active when your core feels threatened, allowing a user to in some cases form a bind with their core in order to use their abilities without being in a life or death situation." His hand near his mouth as he explained thoroughly, his expression focused.

"Most soldiers form these binds, or stick with zing primarily." He added.

"Hey, 'Lt' what's Zing?" Anya and I asked concurrently.

"It's complicated, you can reinforce yourself through Yon but it's not as potent as reinforcing yourself through Zing. Zing is an omnipresent source, and makes up the universe, so using Zing to reinforce is like taking from an infinite source to strengthen yourself while reinforcing through Yon would be taking from a small battery. Though there are clear limitations, for example if someone uses more Zing then they trained for, they will end up imploding into themselves and dying. This is because external Zing would overwhelm their Yon core and cause it to disperse, leaving their body a husk to be crushed by the Zing which consumes them." Shaun explained, sighing as he exhaled.

"I think I get it now." Yoshi said, lowering his head as his chin rested in his hand.

"Yeah, I got it down." Anya exclaimed.

 "I think we're ready." I said, smiling.

"Now, let's get started." Shaun said, cracking his knuckles simultaneously. This was the beginning of a new age of soldiers.
