Chapter 35 - Chapter 12.5: Work of a President

**Paras City – Sealed Dojo Gates, Nightfall**

Moonlight bathed the sealed gates of Sai's dojo in pale silver, turning the wooden barriers into silent sentinels. The city lights flickered in the distance, but here the night felt quieter, heavier. Astra stood motionless before the gates, black hair falling into his silver eyes that still shimmered with unshed tears. The ache in his chest hadn't faded—it sat there like a stone, pressing harder every time he breathed.

Blu stood a few steps behind, cape draped over his shoulders, arms folded. He had landed moments ago, but the usual confident energy was tempered now—softened by the sight of the boy who looked so small against the closed doors.

Blu exhaled slowly, uncrossing his arms. His voice came low, steady, carrying the weight of someone who had seen too many goodbyes.

"Astra... your training with me starts in two days." He paused, letting the promise settle into the quiet night. "Tomorrow is packed—heavy meetings, inspections, deals that can't wait. I can't teach you then. And when we do begin... don't expect softness. Discipline matters more than comfort in training time. Understood?"

Astra nodded slowly, small fists clenched at his sides. His voice was barely above a whisper. "I got it... sensei..."

He reached out and took Yuki's hand, fingers curling tightly around hers like a lifeline. The touch grounded him, even if just a little. Yuki squeezed back gently, her blindfold hiding her eyes but not the quiet sorrow in her expression.

"Let's go home," she said softly, voice thick with the same unspoken hurt.

Astra gave a tiny nod. "Okay..."

The three turned—Yuki leading, Astra clinging to her hand, Honokage drifting silently beside them like a protective shadow. Their footsteps echoed faintly on the stone path, fading into the night as they walked away from the sealed gates.

Blu watched them go until they disappeared around the corner. He stretched his arms overhead, rolling his shoulders with a low, tired sigh. The city's distant hum felt louder now, pressing in.

"Let me sleep..." he muttered. "I have heavy work tomorrow."

Blue energy flickered around him. In a quiet flash, he teleported away, leaving only moonlight on the sealed wood.

**Yuki's Home – Late Night**

The bedroom was bathed in the soft blue glow of a single bedside lamp. Curtains drawn, the room felt cocooned from the city outside. Yuki sat on the edge of the bed, yawning deeply as she stretched her arms high above her head. Her dark hair spilled loose over her shoulders, and she rubbed beneath her blindfold with the heel of her hand.

"Umm... I'm tired today," she murmured, voice heavy with exhaustion that went deeper than physical.

She flopped backward onto the mattress with a small, contented sigh, the bed dipping softly. The blankets smelled faintly of lavender—comforting, familiar.

Yuki turned her head toward Honokage, who hovered near the window, red eyes glowing faintly in the dim light.

"Hono-kun... you can rest too," she said quietly, voice gentle.

Honokage's shadowy form softened. A rare, tender smile curved his features. "As you wish."

He faded into darkness, teleporting to his own quiet space within the house.

Astra sat beside her on the bed, knees drawn up to his chest, staring at the floor. He hadn't spoken since they left the dojo gates. The golden bell Sai had given him lay forgotten in his lap, untouched.

Yuki propped herself up on one elbow, concern etching her face. She reached out slowly.

"Astra? What happened?"

He said nothing—just stared, silver eyes distant and glassy.

She leaned closer, voice dropping to a whisper. "You miss Sensei Sai?"

Astra nodded slowly, almost imperceptibly. A single tear slipped free, tracing down his cheek.

"Yes..."

Yuki's heart squeezed painfully. She reached out and patted his head, fingers threading gently through his black hair. Her smile was soft, aching, full of shared sorrow.

"Don't worry... everything will be okay, sweety." She swallowed. "I miss him too—even more than you, maybe. You know I was trained by him since I was a kid... even younger than you are now. He was my whole world for so long. Every time I fell, he picked me up. Every time the curse hurt, he held me until it stopped. Losing him feels like... like part of me is missing."

Astra looked up at her, voice small and cracked. "So... you don't feel bad that he's gone?"

Yuki's smile turned bittersweet, eyes glistening beneath the blindfold. "Yes, I feel it. Deeply. It hurts every time I breathe in this quiet house. But what can I do? I can't bring him back, and he doesn't want to come. He chose peace... and we have to respect that. Even if it tears us apart a little."

She pulled the blanket up around them both, tucking it gently. "So let's sleep. It's getting late."

Astra shook his head stubbornly, voice trembling. "I don't want to..."

Yuki sighed softly, then her face brightened with a small, determined smile. "Let's play Uno then?"

Astra's eyes lit up just a fraction—enough to chase the shadows away for a moment. "Sure."

Yuki reached over to the nightstand, pulling out the colorful deck. She flicked on another lamp, bathing the room in warmer light.

"Hono-kun!" she called softly.

Honokage reappeared in a swirl of shadow, settling on the bed's edge with a smirk. "I am the king of Uno. You two rookies can't beat me, so give up already."

Yuki laughed quietly, the sound fragile but real. "Let's see if we can or can't."

She shuffled the cards with practiced ease. The three leaned in—Uno cards snapping down, laughter mixing with competitive taunts and gentle teasing.

Astra's small smile grew a little brighter with each round. Yuki's shoulders relaxed. Honokage's smirks turned fond.

The camera lingered on their faces—bright, alive in the lamplight—then slowly panned upward to the night sky over Paras City. Stars winked faintly through the haze.

The screen faded to black.

**Transition – Blu's Residence, Early Morning**

Blu's eyes opened slowly. The high ceiling of his private quarters greeted him—simple, elegant, soft blue lighting built into the walls. He yawned, sitting up in bed, muscles flexing under blue skin.

"Morning already?" he muttered, voice rough from sleep.

He swung his legs over the side, jumping down lightly. Instead of his usual white gi, he pulled on a crisp black coat and pants—formal, presidential. He adjusted the collar in the mirror, smoothing a hand over his short white hair.

"I can't wait... I have many works today."

A soft knock. A maid entered with a silver tray—glass of water, fresh breakfast: toast, fruit, eggs.

"Good morning, President," she said politely, placing the tray on the low table.

Blu nodded. "Thank you."

She bowed and left.

He sat on the sofa, legs crossed, boots already on. He ate quickly—efficient bites.

Mid-bite, the toast slipped from his fingers and fell back onto the plate.

Blu narrowed his eyes. "How can I forget to brush before eating!?"

He stood, strode to the bathroom, grabbed the shining emerald toothbrush, and scrubbed vigorously. Water splashed. He rinsed, wiped his hands on a towel, then returned and resumed eating—calmer.

Finished, he stood, straightened his coat, and walked out.

A sleek luxury car waited—black, tinted, flanked by security. Blu slid into the back seat. The door closed.

He pulled his phone, dialed.

"Ahem... Hello, Fella? I have an important meeting today, so you take care of the city. Keep everything clean, maintain the tax system—no delays."

Fella—fresh from the bath, towel-wrapped, short green hair wet and tied—held the phone between shoulder and ear.

"I agree, President Blu. You can focus without issue."

She ended the call.

Blu pocketed the phone, gazing out at the passing streets—skyscrapers, crowds, life moving forward.

The car sped toward the jungle.

---

**Great Jungle – Parking Area, Mid-Morning**

The convoy stopped in the bamboo-framed parking zone. Security cars fanned out.

The rear door opened. Blu stepped out, organizing his coat with precise movements.

Wano sat on a large rock, holding a list, pen between her teeth. She removed it, jumped down, and smiled.

"Ahh... President. Nice to meet you again."

Uraka bounced over in slime form, pink body jiggling. "So what do you do now?"

Wano glanced at her. "Those are just deals. If you're interested, observe us."

Uraka smiled, shifting to human form—pink hair fluttering, crimson eyes glowing faintly. "Sure..."

Blu cleared his throat. "So... Queen of the Forest Wano... we can talk about a very important deal if you agree?"

Wano nodded, snake-like nails wiggling slightly. "Of course, President."

Guards, police, SWAT, military formed a perimeter.

Blu sat. Wano took the opposite seat.

Blu sighed. "As you know, we've done many deals before. But this one is different."

He leaned forward. "We're going to start mining here. Coal, copper, iron, aluminum, diamond, uranium, gold."

Wano's brow furrowed. "But making a mine won't hurt the nature?"

Blu shook his head. "It won't. We're choosing a place where few animals live—safe, easy. Minimal impact."

Wano considered. "Then mine in my selected place. I know a better one."

Blu nodded. "Sure."

Uraka, a short distance away, closed her eyes. "So that's how deals work..."

Wano stood. "Okay. Follow me."

Blu rose. They walked south, toward beach-attached jungle.

Wano gestured. "Here—farm materials, coconut, sugar cane, fish, crabs as extras. But don't hurt sharks or any animals."

Blu hovered briefly, surveying. Landed.

"Hm... fine. I agree to your area."

Wano smiled. "What will you do in return?"

Blu raised one finger. "We'll spread sakura flowers and trees. It will make the forest even more beautiful."

Wano's smile widened. "The deal is done."

They shook hands—firm, respectful.

---

**A Few Hours Later – South Side of the Jungle**

Trucks arrived, unloading sakura saplings and seeds. Workers planted carefully. Pink petals drifted.

Wano folded her arms, watching. "Doing deals with President Blu is easy... and full of benefits."

Mining factories rose—steel skeletons. Machines hummed: fishing nets, sugar cane cutters, coconut harvesters.

Blu watched progress on a tablet in his car.

He sighed. "I have more work."

The maid opened the door. Blu stepped out, then back in. Convoy moved.

---

**Middle East of Paras City – Hill Area, Afternoon**

Car stopped in quiet, underdeveloped hills—no subways, sparse houses.

Blu stepped out, surveying.

"This area is hill country... hard to develop. But we connect it."

Meeting in grand hall. Guards around central table.

CEOs sat in rows.

Blu at center.

"Okay... improve the plan. Tunnel through the hill—connect tracks and highways to main lines."

"Two stations. Underground metro crossing river, linking main system. Plus hospital and buildings—so this side doesn't feel empty."

CEOs nodded.

One spoke. "President... two years. Billions."

Blu leaned forward. "Not about money. About time. Big projects ahead. Quality with speed."

Female CEO: "I'm with President Blu."

Others agreed.

Blu stood, fixed tie. "Meeting ends. Push faster—hopefully."

To car.

---

**Western Side of Paras City – Late Afternoon**

Car stopped in high-tech but filthy district. Sewage overflowed. Pollution thick. Trash piled.

Blu stepped out, face darkening.

"Why didn't I come here first? Too dirty."

Dialed.

"Hello!? Why is Western Side so dirty and polluted!? Didn't I give you responsibility?"

Manager—counting cash on sofa—froze, sweating. "N-No, President... no time. Factories too..."

Blu sighed. "Excuse. Clean up. Fix problems. Under 20 days—no salary."

Manager nodded frantically. "Okay! I will!"

Blu cut call, entered car, stretched, yawned.

"Approve contracts in office..."

---

**Yuki's House – Early Morning**

Sunlight crept through curtains. Astra woke slowly, silver eyes glowing as he yawned. Yuki's arms wrapped around him in sleep.

Astra blinked at ceiling. "Okay... but I have got nothing to do..."

He closed eyes again, snuggling back, hugging her.

Yuki stirred, whispering sleepily, voice warm and soft.

"I'm happy... I have got a brother like you... Even if you aren't my brother, I will protect you forever..."

Astra smiled faintly against her shoulder, words wrapping around his heart like a promise.

The room stayed quiet, peaceful—two kids finding comfort as the city woke outside.
