Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelve, Potential

Alex suddenly woke up in a cold sweat, as his body flung up into a sitting position. He tried to remember what had just happened, yet his memory was foggy.

He concentrated a bit harder and suddenly he recalled why he woke up. His face immediately turned grim.

Fear then started to creep onto his features as he realized what he was up against. The spider was truly a terrifying foe.

The only problem for Alex was he had no way to deal with the spider. While he was recalling his fight the illusory system screen flickered on.

Alex quickly looked up to see what its contents were. As he read it his face grimaced, as even more fear crept into his heart.

[Dream Spider has devoured Fly Crystal]

The spider had once again stolen one of Alex's weapons and used it for food. This disappointed Alex.

He now knew that the spider would not stop, this was a terrifying thing on its own. Without a weapon on the vile continent one was to die quickly.

The spider was slowly leaving him to this fate, and all Alex could do was pray it didn't take his strongest weapon. Without Alex prized possession it'd be extremely hard to hunt.

Although the lost katana was his strongest weapon, it was more about how used to it Alex was. As Alex had grown accustomed to using a katana.

This had allowed Alex's skill to truly show, and if this was stripped from him his life would spiral into difficulties.

Yet this was not the main point he had gained from his fight with the spider. Instead Alex had noticed something much more important.

Alex had noticed right before he had been killed by the spider he woke up. This was extremely important to know.

As now Alex could abuse this strength of his, or weakness of the spider's dream infiltration ability. He could now fight the spider as much as he wanted.

Although in life winning is fun, losing without consequence is the greatest gain. As what could be learnt from a loss was much more valuable than a win.

Alex was now faced with an infinite source of potential. He could keep learning from fighting the spider without consequence.

Yet Alex couldn't be too sure, as he could've very well woken up by pure coincidence. If he went into his next dream and was suddenly killed without expecting it, it'd be pure stupidity.

Now Alex would have to test it somehow, yet Alex did not know how to do it without risk. Instead Alex decided to focus on their first battle.

Alex took time to memorize their fight and then notice all his mistakes and how he could do better. Yet this visualization wasn't as good as a true fight.

The sun was still below the horizon, although the forest was still lit by a sliver of light coming from the sun just below the horizon.

Alex had noticed this as he realized morning was about to come. On this continent they had no way to tell time.

This was extremely strange as people still had mechanical watches. While they even had cellular devices like their phones.

Since the crash none of the mechanisms had worked. Now thinking about it Alex was dumbfounded on how the microwave worked.

After all the nonstop thinking Alex had finally noticed his state. He was completely drenched in sweat with his shirt being extremely soggy.

This was from Alex waking up in fright, or during his battle. It didn't matter as Alex would need to change out of his clothes.

As Alex reached for his carry on bag and searched through it he realized something. All of his and everyone else's clothes were kept in their suitcases.

Of course their suitcases were on the plane, yet they were in a storage hangar only accessible below the plane.

If Alex wanted to switch out his clothes he was going to have to get into the hangar. Except the plane was hanging on trees and Alex had no way to get below the plane.

Alex began brainstorming all his possibilities, until he palm slapped himself. Striking directly on his head, creating a red circular mark.

Damn I'm stupid.

Alex had suddenly realized he could use the monkey claws. While their ability directly stated it would increase Alex's climbing skills.

While the claws would be able to dig into the plane and give him a good grip on the plane. This would allow him to climb below the plane and to the hangar.

Alex walked to the exit door and then realized he couldn't exit out of it.

Previously the monkeys had ripped off the door and in desperation Lyra had improvised and put a giant metal shield hanging in front the door, held by the spear that went through the handles of the shield and locked into the inside of the plane.

It was truly ingenious, yet Lyra was the only one able to unsummon the blockade. So Alex was going to have to find another way out the plane.

This disappointed Alex yet he had an idea to get out anyway. So he walked past the shield and walked towards the cockpit.

He entered the cockpit and was immediately met with a disgusting stench. There lying in front of him was two burnt bodies.

Both of them were burnt unrecognizable, terrifying Alex with their unholy looks. Yet Alex did not throw up or revolt, instead he felt envy.

It seems it really was a lightning strike. Well they are free from our wretched situation, may they rest in peace.

Alex truly despised their situation, as even though he had dreamt of living it before sometimes some wishes shouldn't be granted.

Alex knew they must've been the captain and co pilot. Then Alex walked by them heading straight to the control panel.

Once Alex had gotten there he climbed up onto it and began summoning the monkey claws. Once they summoned he quickly slipped his hands into the gloves.

After they were snuggly fit onto his hands he jabbed the claws into the window in front of him. Right as the tip of the small blade made contact with the window it shattered.

As the thick window was rendered useless against the immense strength the monkey claw offered. As it started raining sharp shards of glass.

Alex quickly raised his hand to his head, protecting his most vital spot. Luckily Alex sustained no injury.

He then wiped the remaining glass off his head and then walked out the window as far as he could.

After he made it he bent down and shoved his claws into the side of the plane. As he did this dug his second pair in next to them.

Once both claws were securely stuck in the plane Alex swung forward. As he left his feat swinging over the trees and forest floor.

Alex was now hanging off the side of the plane, then loosening the grip of the claw. As he did think he quickly sunk it into the plane again, yet this time further below the original spot.

He repeated this process with the other glove, then changing direction and going sideways on the plane.

From an inside perspective looking towards the front of the plane Alex was hanging off the left of the plane shimmying further down the side of the plane.

Finally he noticed a hatch, as he started climbing closer to it. As he reached it he pondered on how to open it.

As obviously it was tightly loved and couldn't be opened normally. Yet Alex had a solution as he raised one of his hands and stuck it in the small slit outlining the door.

Once in, Alex brought his hand down as he cut clean through the log holding it in. Alex then pried it open.

The door slowly swung open and Alex pulled himself in.

Finally solid ground under my feet.

Alex sighed a breath of relief as he focused his vision. All around him were suitcases stacked up around him.

He slowly walked to the center of the room and sat down. Alex was extremely tired and planned on resting for a bit, as he laid his head on the ground.

Unknowingly Alex quickly fell into a short slumber. Quickly awoken by the pit patterns above him, it was the survivors walking around.

Alex got up and looked above him, he waited until he heard no more sounds around him. Once he didn't hear anything he shoved his claws into the roof.

He started dragging his hand across the floor in a circle. Once he had cut a full circle he quickly stepped back as the metal circle made irritating scratching sounds before slipping down and creating a horn connecting to the bottom of the plane.

People quickly surrounded the hole, all staring at Alex in his precarious situation.

"Stand there for a sec, I'm going to hand you the suitcases, and put them in the nearby seats or something."

Alex started grabbing suitcase by suitcase, handing them one after another. The man above grabbed each suitcase and put them around him.

People occasionally walked up and grabbed their suitcase in glee. While Alex ran out of energy quickly and climbed out the hole and asked another man to replace his job.

Alex still wanted to stay away from attention, yet this was only to avoid Lyra. So he didn't need to worry about the other survivors noticing him.

Alex had already unloaded his suitcase as he grabbed it and walked to his seat. It was near the front as he sat down and unloaded his suitcase.

Inside Alex found what he desperately needed, a change of clothes. Alex quickly walked to the bathroom of the plane and changed.

Alex came back to his seat as he sat down in relaxation. He sat down and thought to himself quietly.

Then out of the corner of his eye he noticed Lyra, yet the strange thing was she was walking directly towards him.

Uh oh. I wonder what she wants to talk about?
