Abigail
The house, especially the kitchen, smelled like vanilla, chocolate, and way too much sugar.
I kicked off my shoes at the door and stalked into the kitchen, where the laughter was coming from.
Annette was perched on a stool, digging her fork into a piece of cake. River was dramatically fanning her mouth, while Angel was arranging little cards next to each dessert sample like a mini event planner.
"You're late!" Angel accused, pointing a fork at me. "We started without you, Abby."
"Sorry, sorry," I laughed, dropping my bag on the counter. "I had to practically ban Finnegan from coming here. We can't have him ruining his own birthday surprise, can we? I had Henry come drag him away from the office."
River snorted. "Yeah, Henry already texted me a photo. They're going fishing. Which is hilarious, because neither of them can fish, and Henry's talking will scare every fish away."
