Looking down at where Night Raid had vanished into the shadows—alongside the original Goku and Vegeta—Goru spoke with a stoic, serious expression: "We should return to the Jaegers and report to Esdeath that Night Raid has three new members..." His voice was calm and collected, and his tail wiggled in the air.
Kakarot let out a low chuckle, his star-shaped scar glinting in the moonlight. "Three new members, huh? Sounds like this 'Night Raid' might finally give us some decent entertainment while we're stuck here." He unfolded his arms and cracked his knuckles, a sharp grin spreading across his face. "I've been itching to test my strength against someone who isn't just another mindless soldier in Esdeath's army."
Goru glanced at his companion, his expression unchanged. "Focus on the mission, Kakarot. Esdeath will want precise details, not your cravings for battle." He adjusted the sword strap on his back before turning his gaze toward the direction of the Jaegers' base. "Besides, we still don't know why that pink crystal brought us here—or if there are others from our world who've been pulled into this one."
The two alternate Saiyans hung in the air for a moment longer, watching the last traces of Night Raid disappear into the city's dark alleyways. Kakarot's grin never faded—his eyes sparkled with anticipation as he imagined the battles to come. "Precise fucking details, precise details…" Kakarot mocked under his breath, rolling his shoulders. "Sometimes I fucking think you've become too soft from growing up on Earth, Vegeta. Where's your Saiyan pride?" He said, looking up at Goru with a serious expression.
Goru didn't rise to the taunt. He stood next to Kakarot, his expression stoic and calm. "Fun isn't our priority here. We need to understand what we're up against—and why that crystal brought us to this world in the first place." He landed lightly on a slate roof, his boots making no sound as he steadied himself. "Besides, Esdeath isn't someone to cross lightly. Even you should know that by now."
Kakarot followed, landing beside him with a heavier thud that sent small pebbles skittering across the roof. "Please—she's strong, I'll give her that. But she fights with cold calculation, not passion. Not even she can reach our full powers—heck, no one on this fucking planet can match our power levels, not even the fucking Jaegers…" he said with a pissed-off expression. "I'm starting to feel fucking annoyed."
"Not curious enough to reveal ourselves prematurely," Goru said firmly, standing next to Kakarot. As he looked down at where Night Raid had vanished from the shadows, he turned across the roof toward the Jaegers' hidden base in the northern district. "My other version's pride would make him reckless if he knew another version of himself existed—and your version of Kakarot might become a problem if he figures out we're working with Esdeath."
Kakarot laughed as he squatted next to Goru. "Problem? I'd call it a fucking opportunity! Imagine the fight we could have—me against my other version, you against your other self. Now, that would be worth sticking around for!" He said with an excited grin. "Can you fucking believe we've been stuck in this backwater planet for a whole fucking week already?" He said, cracking his neck with a sharp pop. "All this waiting around for orders is boring me to death." He said in a mocking tone. "Although, I hope Chi-Chi and the kids are okay..." He thought, thinking about his wife and children on their Earth. He already missed them, his expression softening for a moment.
Goru folded his arms, his expression stoic and calm. "Patience is part of the mission. Besides, you've already challenged half the imperial guard to duels just to pass the time—Esdeath warned us to keep a low profile." He said, glancing at Kakarot, who was still squatting on the roof.
Kakarot frowned, his star-shaped scar twisting with the expression. "And what did you want me to do—just sit by and relax? Bullshit. I'm a fucking Saiyan warrior, Vegeta. Even though the fucking people in this trash world are fodder, they're still entertainment to kill…" He said jokingly. "And besides, they were corrupt just like this piss-poor excuse for an empire of theirs."
Goru stared at Kakarot and said, his expression stoic: "And you do realize that we are literally gods in this unknown world, right? The people here are not on the same level as we are." He said with a serious expression. "We could obliterate this entire planet if we really wanted to."
Kakarot, still squatting next to Goru, picked up a loose piece of roof tile and threw it to the ground, sending it clattering down into the alley below. "Gods—you fucking think I didn't know that, Vegeta? When we got sucked into that fucking wormhole by that piece of shit crystal, ever since we've been on this world, all we've done is suppress our powers to fit in with this weak-ass world…" He said in a pissed-off expression. "I wanna fight opponents like Cell and Buu… I'm sick and tired of holding back." He said with an annoyed look.
A gust of wind swept across the roof, carrying with it the faint smell of smoke and sewage from the city below. Kakarot ground his teeth, his tail lashing out behind him as he watched the broken tile disappear into the darkness of the alley. "Cell… Buu…" he muttered, his voice dropping to a growl. "I'd give anything to go toe-to-toe with either of them again—even though we already defeated them a long time ago."
Goru turned away from the edge of the roof, his gaze fixed on the distant glow of the Jaegers' base. "Remember the time, Kakarot? Trunks defeated Cell in the Cell Games when he unlocked Super Saiyan 2. And then the two of us fought Majin Buu (Kid Buu) on the Sacred World of the Kai. When we realized Super Saiyan 3 (SSJ3) wasn't enough, we used the Potara earrings to fuse into Kakata (Vegito) and completely dominated Majin Buu to save our Earth. We'll find worthy opponents soon enough. You saw the power coming from our other selves—they're suppressing their strength too, but even then… I can feel it. They've faced threats we haven't." He said with a stoic expression.
Kakarot's ears perked up at that, his eyes gleaming with renewed interest. "Oh yeah? You think they've gone Super Saiyan yet? Or maybe even higher?" He pushed himself up from his squat, cracking his knuckles again. "I bet my other self is still a naive fool who holds back against everyone. I'd wipe the floor with him in seconds."
Goru didn't respond right away, instead staring out at the city lights that dotted the darkness like scattered embers. A flicker of something unreadable crossed his face—maybe recognition, maybe concern—before his stoic mask settled back in place. "Naive or not, he's still you," Goru said quietly. "Which means he'll have the same drive to push beyond his limits. I can sense it in his ki—there's a purity to it that you don't have. That kind of strength can do incredible things… or terrible ones, if it's misdirected."
Kakarot scoffed, kicking at another loose tile until it skidded off the roof's edge. "Purity? That's just a nice fucking way of saying he's weak. I've been through hell and back—fought for my life under Frieza's thumb, watched our people burn as he destroyed Planet Vegeta. Your mother sent you to Earth when you were five years old, while my father sent me to his close Saiyan friend when I was a fucking toddler. And after our first battle on Earth, I built a life from nothing there. That's what forges real strength, not running around playing hero." He said with an angry expression.
Goru finally turned to face him, his dark eyes holding a weight that matched Kakarot's fury. "You think your pain makes you stronger? It makes you angry. There's a difference." He paused, his gaze drifting back to the city below. "I remember what Planet Vegeta was like too—growing up knowing I was royalty, but also knowing we were all just pawns to Frieza. When my mother sent me away, she told me to find a better way to be strong than what our people knew."
Kakarot's tail twitched violently, and he stepped closer, jabbing a finger at Goru's chest. "Better? I survived by being ruthless! By doing whatever it took to stay alive and climb the ranks! You got lucky—you had Grandpa Gohan to teach you about 'honor' and 'kindness.' I had to learn how to kill before I could even walk!"
"Is that why you still keep fighting?" Goru's voice was steady, unflinching. "To prove you deserved to survive when so many didn't?" He said, his arms folded.
The question hit Kakarot like a physical blow. He stumbled back a step, his hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. For a long moment, the only sound was the wind whistling across the rooftops and the distant hum of the capital below. "I fight because that's what Saiyans do," he said at last, his voice quieter now. "Because if I stop… if I let myself feel what happened back then…" He trailed off, grinding his teeth. "Chi-Chi knows. She sees it sometimes when I wake up screaming. Daiko and Zukin—they're strong, but I don't want them to carry what I carry."
Goru moved closer, placing a hand on Kakarot's shoulder. It wasn't a gesture of comfort so much as acknowledgment. "That's exactly why our other selves matter. They took different paths—paths we could have walked if things had been different. Seeing them… I wonder if my mother never sent me to Earth. I, Nappa and your brother, Raditz might be on some random planet conquering it for Frieza, and you were sent to Earth by your parents…" He said calmly to Kakarot, his eyes closed. "We could have walked the same paths as they have."
Kakarot chuckled and said: "Conquering planets for Frieza… yeah. That's exactly what me and Nappa did. We sent Raditz to come to Earth to fucking recruit your ass to join us to kill Frieza—he sweet-talked you into joining us, but you refused and killed him. Then me and Nappa came to Earth looking for the Dragon Balls…" He said, remembering the old memories. "After that, it's history. I still remember our first fight—when you killed Nappa, and then you and I finally fought. That was the best fucking fight I ever had…"
Goru nodded slowly, a faint hint of a smile touching his lips for the first time that night. "I remember it too. You were the first opponent who ever made me truly stretch my limits—made me realize there was more to strength than just raw power." He paused, his hand still resting on Kakarot's shoulder. "I almost killed you that day."
"Almost," Kakarot echoed, a sharp grin returning to his face as he shook off the momentary vulnerability. "Because after that, we had a beam struggle. I flew into the skies and unleashed my Fusion Cannon while you hit me with the Kamehameha—and used Kaioken to the max, winning the fight. You collapsed after that, and then I did, too. After we recovered, I told you about Frieza and convinced you to join me in fighting him..." He said with a chuckle. "At first, your Earthling nature made you hesitant—you didn't want to leave Earth, to leave Bulma, Trunks and Bulla behind, along with all of your friends there. But your Saiyan instinct pushed you to join in because of the idea of fighting stronger opponents. And after that, you became a Super Saiyan, and the rest was history..."
"Then..." Kakarot continued. "When I was still working under Frieza, I didn't believe in Super Saiyans—I thought it was just a fucking fairytale, told by adults to their children. But when I saw you transform for the first time, it filled me with excitement. You proved that the legend was true—a prince of all Saiyans becoming the legend... I thought, if a Super Elite can achieve it, then a Low Class can do it..." He said with a laugh, remembering the long-past memory.
Goru's smile faded back into his usual stoic expression, but there was warmth in his eyes as he looked out over the city. "I still remember the look on Frieza's face when he realized what I'd become. All those years he spent fearmongering about the Super Saiyan legend—only to face it firsthand from the very race he'd tried to wipe out." He said in a calm tone.
"He was terrified as fuck." Kakarot said, a dark laugh rumbling in his chest. "And he had every right to be. You tore through his forms like they were nothing. When he finally went full power, I thought we were fucked—but you just kept pushing further. That's when I knew I had to catch up, or I'd never be able to stand beside you as an equal."
He paused, cracking his knuckles again as a familiar fire lit up in his eyes. "Took me longer than I liked to unlock it myself. I was so focused on raw power that I forgot what you'd said to me back then, about Earth—strength comes from more than just anger and ambition. It wasn't until we were back on Earth and started training harder with your help and Bulma's that I finally fucking awakened it. Then not long after, the Android attacks happened—where I could finally test my fucking might against those tin cans." He said to Goru.
Kakarot continued. "'Nature's' is a fucking way to put it," Kakarot said with a grin. "I was a goddamn hurricane. But even then, I still couldn't match you. You'd already mastered Super Saiyan by then, while I was just figuring out how to control the form without burning myself out. I only mastered Grade Three of Super Saiyan, while you were already at Grade Four."
Goru let out a short, quiet hum, his gaze still fixed on the distant lights of the Jaegers' base. "Grade Four wasn't just about power—it was about efficiency. Those bulked-up forms you were so fond of wasted energy faster than you could generate it. I knew we'd need every ounce of strength we could spare when we found out who was really pulling the androids' strings."
"Yeah Dr fucking Gero," Kakarot said, waving his hand in a bored expression. "That crazy old motherfucker had been planning his revenge for decades—against me... Even after we took out 17 and 18, we still weren't ready for Cell." He said with a laugh. "I don't know what the fuck beef you had with him back then, but that old geezer really designed the androids to kill your ass..." He said, waving his hand dismissively.
Goru's jaw tightened slightly at the mention of Gero, his stoic facade hardening for a moment before he relaxed again. "It is indeed personal, he was one of the Red Ribbon Army's top scientists. I destroyed their organization when I was a little kid. He lost everything because of me—his work, his status, his family. Revenge became all he had left."
Kakarot whistled low, shaking his head. "No shit sherlock. No wonder he went off the deep end building those murder machines. Still, none of that mattered once Cell showed up and absorbed 17 and 18 both. That fucking bastard was on a whole other level—acting like he was some kind of perfect being destined to rule the world." He said in a pissed-off tone.
He paused, clenching his fist as he remembered the Cell Games. "I thought I had him beat when I went Super Saiyan Full Power. But then the motherfucker came back stronger than ever and beat the shit out of me. Then you fought Cell evenly—we thought you might have the fucking power to beat him, as you and he were evenly matched. Then Trunks stepped up and beat Cell by achieving Super Saiyan 2."
Goru's gaze darkened at the memory, his hands tightening into fists at his sides. "Trunks paid a heavy price for that victory—pushing his body beyond its limits to finish what we couldn't start. Even after Cell was gone, he spent weeks in the healing chambers recovering." He turned to face Kakarot fully, his voice dropping to a low tone. "That's another thing our other selves might not understand—how much strength costs."
Kakarot's grin faded, and he kicked at a loose shingle that skittered across the roof before tumbling into the darkness below. "Yeah… I fucking remember carrying him out of the arena myself. The kid had more guts than most full-grown Saiyans I've known." He paused, his eyes scanning the city skyline. "Sometimes I wonder if we'd be stronger if we'd faced what they have—if we'd had to protect our world from threats like that without knowing we'd win."
Suddenly, the two Saiyans fell silent as they looked down at the dark city. Then, not long after, Goru broke the silence and said, "Come, we should head back..." He spoke slowly as he flew into the skies. Kakarot stood and said, "Yeah, yeah, I'm fucking coming..."
Kakarot launched himself into the air after Goru, his white base-form aura flaring briefly before he suppressed it again – even the faint golden glow would be too noticeable in the dark city below. He fell into step beside his companion, the wind whipping through his spiky hair as they soared over rooftops and alleyways toward the Jaegers' base.
"Hey Vegeta," Kakarot said suddenly, breaking the quiet that had settled between them. "You really think our other selves could give us a real fight? I mean, we've been through shit they couldn't even imagine – Super Saiyan 1, 2, and 3, fusion, fighting Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu. We even went to the Sacred World of the Kais for fuck's sake."
Goru didn't look over, keeping his eyes fixed on the distant tower that marked their destination as his white base-form aura engulfed his entire body while he flew. "I'm not sure," he said, his voice calm and collected. "They're also suppressing their powers, making us unable to fully read their power levels." His expression turned serious. "But if they fought the same enemies as us in their world, then they might be on the same level as us – higher or lower… depending on the circumstances."
Kakarot let out a sharp laugh, shaking his head as he matched Goru's speed through the night sky. "Higher or lower? Come on – I bet my other self is still running around with that goofy grin of his, trying to talk his way out of fights instead of just finishing them off," he said in a mocking tone.
"He's still you," Goru replied, finally glancing over with a faint look of amusement. "Even if his path was different, that drive to push forward – to become stronger – it's in both of you." He adjusted the sword strap on his back as they neared the tower, its stone walls looming against the moonlit sky. "Besides, you forget – we didn't unlock Super Saiyan 3 until we were training on the Sacred World. Who knows what they've achieved in their timeline?"
Kakarot scoffed, flying next to Goru. "Your other version's already showing his hand – strutting around like he's better than everyone else, calling himself Prince of all Saiyans. At least even though he is you, you don't have his fucking annoying arrogance. You're too humble and honorable – maybe that's because you grew up on Earth," he said in a joking tone.
Goru let out a short breath that might have been a laugh. "He is me, after all. Just… the version that never left Planet Vegeta and was never sent to Earth. The version that let pride blind him instead of breaking free from it," he said with a stoic expression. "His pride and ego will be his own downfall."
Kakarot glanced down at the city below, where shadows pooled in narrow streets and the occasional torch flickered in a window. "Fucking assholes," he scowled, his tail lashing out behind him. "Even with all their fancy mansions and guards, they can't hide how rotten everything is here." He glanced at Goru, his expression unchanged. "You know what the worst part is? We could fix all this – wipe out the corrupt officials, crush the Empire, make this planet worth living on in a single day," he said, his voice dropping to a low growl. "But no – we have to play nice with Ice Bitch and her little army of lapdogs," he said in a pissed-off tone. "It's just like working with Frieza again."
Kakarot continued. "And I don't even understand why the fuck we're working for her in the first place – even while suppressing our powers, she is no match against either of us," he said with a frown.
Goru turned to face him, his eyes sharp despite his calm demeanor. "And what would that solve? If we reveal our full power now, we'd either be worshipped as gods or hunted as monsters. Neither helps us figure out how to get home," he said, looking forward again. "Besides, we need to gather information about this world and the crystal itself. She can give us that information if we serve her loyally."
"Yeah, whatever," Kakarot said, breaking the quiet between them. "You really think Esdeath knows what she's getting into by keeping us around? She acts like she can control us, but we both know the truth."
Goru didn't look over, his eyes fixed on the distant spire that marked their destination. "She's smart enough to know we're more powerful than anyone else in her army. Whether she thinks she can control us or just use us as weapons… that's her mistake to make." He adjusted the sword strap on his back. "Besides, we need her resources if we're ever going to find a way back to our Earth. The crystal that brought us here – she's already had her scientists studying it for days."
"Studying it my ass," Kakarot scoffed, rolling his shoulders. "Those lab coats couldn't understand half of what that thing does if it explained itself to them in plain language. I say we take it and figure it out ourselves," he said with an annoyed expression.
"And then what?" Goru asked sharply. "We don't even know how it works. For all we know, trying to activate it without understanding could tear this entire world apart – or strand us somewhere worse," he said with a serious expression.
Kakarot fell quiet for a moment, his eyes narrowing as he watched the city lights shrink below them. "Yeah, yeah… you're right. Again." He cracked his knuckles, a familiar grin tugging at his lips despite himself. "But when we do get back, I'm challenging you to a rematch. No holding back this time – full power, any form we want."
Goru closed his eyes, a faint smirk touching his lips. "You still think you can beat me?" he said calmly.
"Fucking right I do," Kakarot shot back, his tail wagging with excitement. "I've been training every damn day we've been stuck here – even without gravity chambers or senzu beans, I've found ways to push myself. You'll see," he said with a determined look.
Goru opened his eyes, a glint of something sharp and competitive shining through his usual calm demeanor as they glided closer to the Jaegers' tower. "I'd expect nothing less from you. Though I should warn you – I've been training too – adapting my techniques to this world's atmosphere, finding new ways to focus my ki without relying on the tools we're used to." He gestured toward the spire ahead, where dark flags bearing the Empire's crest fluttered against the night sky. "Besides, we might not have to wait until we get home for a real fight. Our other selves are here now – and from what I can tell, it won't be long before our paths cross for good."
Kakarot's grin widened, his eyes lighting up with anticipation. "Now you're talking! I can already feel it – the way their power hums under the surface, even when they're holding back. It's like… like there's a fire in them that matches ours. Different fuel, same flame." He surged forward a little faster, pulling ahead of Goru before slowing to match his pace again. "I just hope they're fucking ready when we finally go head-to-head. I don't wanna waste my time on a fight that ends in seconds."
They landed lightly on the balcony of a tall, imposing building that blended seamlessly into the capital's skyline – the Jaegers' hidden headquarters. Inside, the warm glow of candlelight spilled through tall windows, and Kakarot could already smell the familiar scent of Esdeath's favorite tea mixed with the sharp tang of metal from the training grounds below.
"After you," Goru said, gesturing for Kakarot to enter first, his expression stoic and calm.
Kakarot snorted, ducking through the opening. "Always so damn polite. Remind me again how you're supposed to be the Prince of all Saiyans?" he said jokingly, shrugging his shoulders.
"Someone has to keep up appearances," Goru replied, following him inside and pressing another hidden switch to close the panel behind them. The staircase wound downward into the tower's depths, lit only by occasional torches that cast dancing shadows across the stone walls. "Esdeath will be waiting for our report. She doesn't like being kept in the dark – especially about Night Raid."
As they entered the war room, every eye turned to them. Esdeath sat at the head of a large oak table, her blue hair tied back in its usual style, her blue eyes gleaming with cold intelligence as she studied the maps spread before her. Beside her were the Jaegers members – Wave, Seryu Ubiquitous, Bols, Run, Dr. Stylish, and especially Kurome – Akame's sister – who stared at Kakarot with a thoughtful expression. Ever since Kakarot and Goru had been added to the Jaegers, she had been watching him from far away, trying to determine if he was the Goku she knew back then. Several soldiers stood at attention near the massive oak table, but their eyes widened and they stepped aside as Kakarot and Goru approached – word of the two powerful newcomers had spread quickly through the ranks.
(Esdeath was a high-ranking General of the Empire. Eventually, due to Night Raid's effectiveness as an assassination unit, she became the leader of the Jaegers under the orders of the Prime Minister. She was deeply in love and obsessed with Tatsumi.
Esdeath was a tall, beautiful, and young slender woman with long, light blue hair and blue eyes. She wore a General's uniform with long sleeves fastened by buttons on the upper arms, a blue scarf around her neck, high-heeled boots, and a peaked hat that bore the crest of her clan on the front. She also had a tattoo on her chest, which was the sign of her Teigu.
In the anime, Esdeath was shown to have porcelain white skin (most likely due to the cold climate of her home village). Along with that, her breasts were exaggeratedly larger than her manga counterpart. However, in Akame Ga Kill! Zero, her breasts are quite large, resembling more closely how they appeared in the anime.
As a child, she wore a black hairband with her clan's symbol on it, a short-sleeved white shirt with dark green and black trimmings, and a pink scarf.
Esdeath was a manipulative, barbarous, sadistic psychopath who lacked empathy for people whom she deemed weak, as she lived by her father's philosophy: "The strong survive and the weak die". She enjoyed putting her enemies through great pain, both physically and emotionally. She had no qualms about killing innocent people to get what she wanted and rationalized her behavior with her father's old creed. Esdeath was known to treat her subordinates well, letting them do as they pleased, which in turn inspired their intense loyalty and devotion to her; this made her followers the strongest offensive force of the Empire. To her credit, Esdeath demonstrated genuine care for her subordinates – the Three Beasts and Jaegers in particular – and unhesitatingly authorized them to kill Tatsumi should he ever endanger their lives.
Esdeath loved to fight and held special respect for strong opponents, as shown when she openly recognized Susanoo as a warrior rather than as a simple Teigu. Her love of battle occasionally inspired her to take actions that would incite more hatred against the Empire, in the hopes of being able to put down more rebellions. She even stated that should the Empire fall, she would simply start a war herself to satisfy her need for bloodshed.
Despite her reputation, Esdeath possessed great charisma, able to inspire many to fight for her. Even Run, who expected her to be a scumbag, softened his stance on her, despite his otherwise apprehensive feelings toward her sadism.
Although she was unabashedly bloodthirsty, she kept it from dominating her judgment. If she saw that a battle was too much for her soldiers, she would order a retreat and not risk heavy losses. While she would torture subordinates who failed, she could be forgiving to those who fell short, provided that they weren't complete failures, and gave them the benefit of the doubt if the failure wasn't their fault. However, during the final battle against the Revolutionary Army and the remaining members of Night Raid, it became clear that behind that charismatic military officer lay a person thirsty for battle. This was demonstrated when she used her real trump card to cover the Empire in a Russian winter. Najenda noted that such a technique put Esdeath's subordinates, as well as their families, at risk. Her response – not caring, and once again rationalizing it with her belief in social Darwinism – showed her cruelty and depravity.
Interestingly, in spite of this pure monstrosity, before the final battle, Esdeath spoke of dedicating the fight to the fallen Jaegers' memory – even more significant given her initial casual dismissal of Seryu Ubiquitous's demise. She internally admitted to missing them greatly and envisioned the entire group in her memory. This demonstrated that while she would put her men and their families at risk, she did fondly recall those who were more than mere lackeys and had valued them highly – especially in comparison to the Three Beasts.
When Esdeath recruited Goru and Kakarot to the ranks of the Jaegers, she developed a liking for Kakarot, seeing him more as a potential lover than a subordinate. She fell in love with Kakarot the first time she saw him ruthlessly defeating her imperial guards without effort, while bragging about being a Saiyan warrior.
Esdeath became obsessed with him due to his ruthlessness and hunger for battle, and as a result, she frequently invited him to her room every night. Kakarot grew angry at this, as he had no interest in Esdeath. Even in another world, he remained loyal to his wife Chi-Chi and their two half-breed sons, Daiko and Zukin.
Esdeath already knew that Goru and Kakarot were married, as they had revealed this to her before she introduced them to the rest of the Jaegers. But she didn't care – since the two of them were stuck here, she believed she could do anything she wanted to Kakarot.)
(Wave was a former member of the Jaegers and the Imperial Navy. He hailed from a small town on the coast of the Empire.
Due to the large amount of time he spent at sea, he was fairly unaware of the crime-riddled capital and the corruption within the Empire. He was very close to his mother and highly respected in his home village.
Wave was a handsome and fairly muscular young man of above-average height with short, dark blue hair and eyes. Like Tatsumi, he also had a cowlick. He wore a blue leather jacket and a red scarf with an anchor emblem – said to be his symbol of justice. Underneath, he wore a white shirt with a single blue line down the middle. He also wore grey jeans secured with a belt, dark blue boots, and carried his Teigu on his back most of the time.
He held his beliefs close to heart, such as duty to his country and cheering up a girl when she was sad. He was a true navy man at heart and loved everything to do with the ocean. He was level-headed and easy-going in his free time and had a desire to be useful to his friends.
He got along well with most of his comrades, excluding Seryu. He sympathized with Tatsumi's desire to run away from the group but was duty-bound to prevent it. Despite constantly finding Bols' choice of attire strange and wondering how a man of that sort was the only married member of the Jaegers, he was on very good terms with him and seemed to think highly of him. He often tried to cheer up others, which usually failed and resulted in him being cheered up by Kurome instead. Following the death of Bols and Kurome's admission of her fear of being discarded, Wave grew extremely protective of her, showing how close he had become to the two of them.
He believed Night Raid to be evil because they were killers who operated under cover of night – a rational conclusion for someone from outside the capital to reach. However, after spending time in the capital itself, he grew more cautious of it. He was wary of Seryu because of her brutality and insanity, both of which surprised him, as he had not believed the capital had grown that corrupt. He was also shocked by the fears Kurome harbored of being abandoned and executed, which again traced back to the Empire.
Tatsumi himself admitted that Wave, despite being willing to kill him if necessary, wasn't evil; in fact, he seemed almost moral – a quality sorely lacking in those usually affiliated with the Empire.)
(Kurome was a former member of the Jaegers and the younger sister of Akame. Sold by her parents to the Empire along with Akame, the sisters were trained as assassins. She was drafted into a different assassin group than her sister, and the siblings parted ways.
Kurome looked very similar to her sister. She had short, black hair styled in twin tails and black eyes. She wore a black sailor uniform with a red belt that featured a side skirt cover like Akame's, along with long black socks and shoes. Her shirt was slightly too short, as it did not cover her belly button. She also wore red gauntlets like Akame and kept her Teigu with her at all times.
Although she shared some traits with her sister – such as social awkwardness and a large appetite – Kurome was much more aloof and displayed darker aspects of her personality when it came to killing her enemies. She was cold and ruthless in battle, usually ending her enemies' lives as one would expect from a seasoned assassin.
Secretly, she was very scared of being seen as weak, knowing that in the Assassination Division, if she became dead weight, she would be eliminated to keep her silent. This fear lingered from her upbringing, as she almost suffered this fate were it not for the drug therapy she later underwent.
Before the destruction of her Teigu, Yatsufusa, she displayed an unstable mental attachment to her fallen comrades, keeping them as her "corpse dolls" – as shown with Run. When he was severely injured and about to die, she stated that it would allow them to be "together forever", and she intended to add Akame to this collection. When expressing this desire, Kurome said that they "could be together again like old times". This, along with her expressions and words throughout the anime and manga, could be interpreted as either evilly persuasive sweetness and carefreeness, or boastfulness born from the belief that she would definitely win.
She also seemed to play with the corpses of those she had killed, as well as keeping powerful ones in her permanent collection, which was limited to eight.
It was later revealed by Akame and during the events of Akame Ga Kill Zero that a majority of Kurome's negative traits were due to extensive brainwashing and mental conditioning the Empire had subjected her to from childhood to ensure her continued obedience – further strengthened by her addiction and dependence on performance-enhancing drugs that would cause painful spasms and seizures if she did not ingest them regularly.
This, combined with the numerous losses of her friends and comrades, only solidified Kurome's loyalty to the Empire, as she believed she had to ensure that their deaths and sacrifices were worth something.
Following the end of the war, Kurome was shown to suffer from PTSD and deep emotional regret and guilt for her past actions during her time as an assassin, now that the effects of her mental conditioning, brainwashing, and drug dependence had been removed. She became much more demure and dependent on others – especially Wave and Akame – to help her cope with her newfound empathy. The latter she now genuinely cared for and loved. At times, she hallucinated seeing her former corpse dolls and numerous victims approaching her vengefully, and she felt immense remorse for what she had done.)
(Run was a member of the Jaegers and Esdeath's right-hand man. After his death, Run's corpse served as one of Kurome's puppets until Wave shattered Kurome's Teigu, releasing him from Yatsufusa's control.
Run was a young man with fair blond hair and golden eyes. He wore a white robe over a black shirt and pants with a brown belt, a feather pin behind his left ear, and a collar-like accessory around his neck. In his first few appearances, he was seen carrying a book.
He also had a winter outfit with a white jacket and scarf, and wore formal suits on several occasions. During his days as a teacher, he wore a suit with a vest and cloak, as well as a pair of glasses.
Run was calm, collected, and polite. He was never shown raising his voice or giving in to anger, and was determined to achieve his goals. He was not above using dishonorable methods to reach them – such as seducing women and deceiving enemies to gain their trust. This was seen when he pretended to try joining Wild Hunt by feigning humility and bribing its members, while actually gathering incriminating evidence against them.
While merciless, if not cruel, toward his enemies, Run was willing to defend civilians and clearly detested Wild Hunt, hiding his anger over the public execution of the Imperial Fist disciples. He was very caring toward his fellow Jaegers and was present during the mourning of fallen comrades. He grew especially close to Wave and Kurome, and was willing to risk his life to protect them. Even after his reanimation, he still showed a desire to care for them – proving this was one of his strongest motivations.)
To be continued.
