Chapter 37 - CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN

The comments section exploded the moment they saw Xiao Bai's cuteness. His curly hair was sticking out in every direction, and his face was a little red from just waking up. He looked especially silly and adorable in his sleepy state.

"Say hi, then go wash up. After that, we'll have breakfast." Yu Weiwei patted his head.

Xiao Bai obediently greeted the audience before heading back to his room.

After Yu Weiwei set the food on the table, he suddenly felt like something was missing. Before he could figure out what it was, Xiao Bai suddenly rushed downstairs, shouting.

"Pa... Uncle! Xiao Zi is missing!!"

"Ah, that's right. I left him at the palace." Yu Weiwei slapped his forehead.

That little guy was probably going to throw a tantrum.

Before he could contact Elara, Yu Weiwei heard a familiar humming sound tinged with grievance, followed by a series of knocks on the door.

Familiar with the voice, Xiao Bai immediately dashed toward the door. The moment he opened it, Xiao Zi ran inside and clung to Yu Weiwei's leg, humming pitifully as though he had suffered the greatest injustice in the universe.

"I'm so sorry. I forgot to bring you home yesterday." Yu Weiwei quickly picked Xiao Zi up and carried him into his arms.

The little guy immediately buried himself against him, still humming with grievance.

Yu Weiwei then glanced toward the livestream.

"That's all for today. I'll make it up to you guys tomorrow."

Before the audience could protest, Yu Weiwei turned off the livestream.

The livestream could have gone on for much longer, but Yu Weiwei didn't want to cause a traffic jam for himself.

Xiao Zi being here also meant that either one of the three AIs had come over or the royal couple had arrived.

As expected, a familiar voice soon reached his ears.

"Morning, Weiwei. Is there breakfast for me?"

Elara walked in, looking slightly angry.

"Morning. Of course. What's wrong?" Yu Weiwei asked as he used his Dimension Authority to bring another set of plates from the kitchen and place them on the table.

"Ah, it's that Caspian. I just wanted a kid. Is that so hard?!" Elara said, fuming.

The moment Yu Weiwei heard those words, he felt as though he had been struck by lightning.

They said that going back in time could cause a butterfly effect.

He remembered that the triplets had been born two years from now in his previous life.

But what if they were born earlier this time?

Would Yu Niannian still exist?

Yu Weiwei suddenly regretted making changes ever since he was reborn. He had been so focused on changing the tragedies of his previous life that he hadn't considered how even the smallest change could alter the future.

What if he never got to see Yu Niannian again?

Who could guarantee that if Elara became pregnant now, she would still give birth to the same triplets?

The thought made Yu Weiwei's heart tighten.

He had finally remembered the little boy he had lost in his previous life. He had finally decided that this time, he would protect him.

But what if his own actions caused Niannian to disappear before he was even born?

Seeing the shocked expression on Yu Weiwei's face, Elara became slightly bewildered.

What was wrong with this kid?

She had only complained about wanting a child. Why did he look as though she had just announced the end of the universe?

Yu Weiwei stared at Elara for several seconds before finally finding his voice.

"How... how badly do you want a child?"

Elara blinked, slightly confused. The current Yu Weiwei looked like a child whose candy had just been stolen, and despite herself, her heart couldn't help but tremble at how cute he looked. But then again, considering that Yu Weiwei was still a kid not an adult yet, she felt his cuteness was reasonable.

Before she could answer, he asked again, this time looking as though he were on the verge of crying.

"Very badly?"

Elara hesitated. She had a strange feeling that if she said yes, Yu Weiwei would burst into tears right in front of her. However, when she imagined having a cute little boy or girl with Caspian's features, her heart immediately softened, and she couldn't help but nod.

"Yes."

Yu Weiwei's expression instantly collapsed.

He looked as though the entire universe had abandoned him.

If Elara didn't already know that Yu Weiwei was a naive and simple person, she might have thought he was secretly wishing her misfortune or plotting something against her. His expression was simply too tragic for someone who had only asked whether she wanted a child.

Elara wanted to ask what was wrong, but she was afraid that whatever she said might push him even further into despair. So instead, she quietly picked up her cutlery and began eating, deciding that perhaps it was better to leave him alone for the moment.

The dining table became unusually quiet, with only Xiao Zi's satisfied humming and the occasional clinking of cutlery breaking the silence. Yu Weiwei remained seated in the same gloomy state, his mind clearly somewhere far away.

After a while, the three of them had finished eating. Just as Elara was about to put down her cutlery, Yu Weiwei suddenly seemed to come back to life.

She looked up and met his fervent gaze.

For some reason, Elara couldn't help but shudder.

Yu Weiwei had suddenly come up with an idea.

This time, however, he was determined to stand on Caspian's side.

For exactly two years.

"Dad... hungry?"

Xiao Bai suddenly tugged at Yu Weiwei's clothes and pointed toward his stomach, which had begun to growl loudly.

Yu Weiwei froze before snapping out of his thoughts. His eyes met Lin Zhiyu's clear and innocent gaze, and the determination that had just filled him immediately deflated.

He suddenly felt a little ashamed.

He already had a child, yet here he was, worrying about and coveting another child.

Besides, he didn't even know the exact day the triplets had been born in his previous life, let alone when they had been conceived. For all he knew, the changes he had made might have nothing to do with their birth.

His previous assumptions were unreliable.

'I guess... it's fate.'

Yu Weiwei lowered his head slightly, looking a little depressed.

Seeing the expression on his face change again, Elara finally couldn't hold back her curiosity.

"Weiwei, what's wrong? You don't want a little brother or sister?"

"No, it's not that..."

Yu Weiwei hesitated, his fingers unconsciously rubbing against the edge of his clothes. He wasn't sure how to explain something that sounded completely ridiculous without revealing too much.

"If... if you had a cute little brother, one you loved very much, and then you went back to the past, but because of some changes you made, you couldn't have that little brother again in that life..."

He paused, his expression becoming increasingly serious.

"What would you do?"

Elara suddenly paused, and a strange glint flashed through her eyes.

Yu Weiwei's question had made her think of something far beyond the current topic.

'Did he... reverse time?'

The thought appeared in her mind almost instantly.

Elara narrowed her eyes slightly as she began searching through her memories. The Yu Weiwei she knew was nothing like a twenty year old should be. There were moments when he gave her the strange illusion of an elderly man who had already seen too much of the world.

His personality had also changed drastically after he was accused of murder.

At the time, Elara had simply assumed that this incident had caused him heartbreak. But now, after hearing his strange question, she couldn't help but wonder if there was more to it.

Then she remembered Lin Zhe's words.

Lin Zhe possessed the ability to calculate a person's fate through their face. His Insight Authority had reached such a terrifying level that he could see things ordinary people couldn't even begin to comprehend.

And according to his calculations, Yu Weiwei was destined to have an extremely tragic life.

Lin Zhe had wanted to change that fate.

But he couldn't.

There was something in this world that prevented him from doing so. Perhaps it was because Lin Zhe himself did not belong to this world, or perhaps it was because Yu Weiwei's bloodline was not completely bound to the laws of this universe.

Whatever the reason, the heavens seemed determined to keep Yu Weiwei's original fate intact.

Since he couldn't directly change it, Lin Zhe had eventually come up with another idea.

He wanted to create an existence similar to the Empire's Guardian AI.

Except this AI would be far more powerful.

Powerful enough that it might even possess the ability to reverse time.

Unfortunately, System 001 had failed.

The experiment had been deemed unsuccessful, and the system was eventually scrapped.

Thinking about this, Elara's suspicion gradually faded.

If System 001 had failed, then how could Yu Weiwei possibly have reversed time?
