Chapter 86 - Adjust Your Expectations

[IRIS POV]

"...I'll cross that bridge when I come to it," I said with a long sigh. After all, it wasn't as though I could un-take the necklace. 

Healer Felix's words did open up a new can of worms that I didn't want to think about, namely, how was a fae able to sneak into Ashbourne, know that this necklace was mine, steal said necklace, and then return it to me when I was alone?

The room was warm, but I felt a sudden chill overwhelm me as I gazed at the innocent silver metal twinkling under the lights. I put it back in the cupboard, making sure to lock it up. 

"At least it's not missing for good," Healer Felix said with blatant relief. "I was worried about it for days. I couldn't think of a way to comfort you, that's why I kept putting off telling you the news."

"I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth," I said agreeably. Truth be told, if Healer Felix had lost my necklace, nothing he said would have helped mend the wound in my heart.
