The village chief, jolted awake as if from a dream, scrambled to his feet. He had no idea what the two of them were doing, but he quickly grabbed Drew Thorne's waist and pulled back with all his might.
And you had to admit, even though the chief was over sixty, his physical fitness was nothing to scoff at—he was stronger than any of the young folks.
With the chief's help, Drew Thorne and Jane Sterling had a much easier time. They even had enough energy left to get a good look at what the hell they were pulling.
Jane Sterling, standing at the very front, could only make out a vague shape.
"Come on, pull harder!"
Jane Sterling planted her feet firmly on the ground, digging her heels in as she pulled.
After a brief stalemate, the thing in the water finally seemed to lose its strength. With a loud SPLASH, sending water flying everywhere, it fell right onto the side of the road.
