Instantly, everyone looked at Jasper Thorne with a mixture of confusion, disbelief, and even some complex gazes that Jane Sterling couldn't decipher.
"Why are you up wearing so little?"
Drew Thorne entered through a back door, bringing a sharp, icy gust of wind and snow in with him.
He hurriedly set his coat aside, strode quickly up the stairs, and gently ruffled her hair before pinching her soft cheek.
"It's warm in the house, but you'll catch a cold if you come down without slippers. I'll take you back up."
Without another word, Drew Thorne simply scooped Jane Sterling up as if she were a kitten. Her feet suddenly left the floor, and thrown off balance, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
Before she could even react, they were back in her room, and he was putting on her fluffy slippers for her.
