He laughed, looking back at her with amusement. "So how are you going to thank me?"
Zane Jennings leaned against the railing, watching Erin Lowell as he mulled it over.
"This is a thank-you gift."
She gave him a faint smile and held up her right hand. Her shoulder-length hair was pulled back, but a few loose strands swayed in the wind.
Zane Jennings looked at the candied hawthorn she was holding up and laughed. "So you get to be fresh with me, and I even get a thank-you gift for it?"
Knowing he was teasing her, Erin Lowell didn't get angry, though the tips of her ears quietly reddened. She lifted her hand and gave the treat a little shake, her movement betraying no shyness. "Go on, take it."
His gaze shifted from her eyes to her ears. He ran his tongue along the inside of his cheek, his smile turning a little wicked.
"If you really don't want it, I'm just going to leave."
Zane Jennings rubbed his brow, showing a rare hint of resignation. "Fine, give it to me."
