As they left the hospital parking lot, the car felt chilly in the early October air. He turned on the heat. "If you don't give me an address," he said casually, "I'm just going to drive to my place."
Erin Lowell had just fastened her seatbelt. After a moment's hesitation, she gave him the address. "Pinecroft Estate."
Zane Jennings turned his face toward the window, pressing his tongue against the roof of his mouth to suppress a smile.
Fog misted the windows, and while the car's interior was dim, there was just enough light to see the tips of her ears turning red. Zane Jennings stopped teasing her. "I'm a decent driver. You can get some sleep."
"Okay, wake me when we get there." She was truly exhausted, so she didn't refuse. After a moment, she added out of politeness, "Thank you."
Zane Jennings kept his eyes on the road, the corners of his eyes crinkling slightly. "You're welcome."
